If there is a awesome male squad member I can romance, then I will go for male.
But normally I prefer playing female in sci-fi, regardless of who is romanceable. (and I hate playing female in Dragon Age. Wierd) And the voice acting is key to success here. Female Sheps voice actress was SO much better than robotic male voice
I always play as a female. Well, that's mostly because I'm a female.
I can't stand when my character speaks like some kind of machine and I think Bioware always does a great job about fem character's voice. Not sure if this works that way for male character.
Let me start off by saying that personally I HATE just about anything SJW related and the entire state of the world we live in with SJW agendas being pushed in your face at all times. HOWEVER I personally have an affinity for stories with strong female characters....
Which way are you gonna go?
I don't self-insert (i.e. I don't play as 'me' a straight oldish white baldy guy).
So I tend to go female because that's a role-play from myself, it's not me, and there are no limits to choices 'I' can make in the game.
My daughters have remarked on it, but I think they are cool with it now, anyway, they all tend to play as female characters too, so no problem.
Oh, and there's nothing wrong with a little social justice. There are folk who because of the way they are, look, or behave have had a crappy time from society pretty much forever, the least we can do is to make sure everyone can enjoy a little entertainment the same as each other.
I'm hoping that I like m/f and m/m LI's more this time, I have onlyhas one m!Shepard cause I didn't quite care about LI's for them in ME1-3 so it would be nice to play with more m!Shepards this time.. At least hoping for that badass Asari LI ![]()
It depends on the voice actors.
Assuming I'm familiar with the both of them, whichever option I'm more a fan of.
Female, and yes I'm a male gamer, but I get a kick out of design female faces with CC's.
Well, in due time, both of course...but I typically start with a female character. I can't say I really know why but it's something I've been doing going back to the old pen and paper D&D. And I agree with Han, voice acting has a huge impact. I didn't much care for the male VA's in DAI and hence most of the characters I role-played were female.
I normally play a full playthrough as a Male (I wasn't so good in the character creator so I decided to go for a Default M-Shep) first, since I am a male. In my second playthrough I go as a female, to see how that changes my experience. I know going in a second time once you know the story will not make a comparison possible, but I greatly enjoyed playing as Fem-Shep. For the romances, idk who I was going to do. I didn't get a strong vibe from Kaiden, so I went with Liara in ME1. Idk why but I romanced Thane in ME2 and had a conflict between Thane and Liara in ME3. As M-Shep I went for Ashley, but then she became annoying in ME2 so I went with Miranda for the rest.
So choosing between a male or female does have an effect on experiencing the story and characters and I honestly don't know who I should pick first in MEA
Rappeldrache, that little white gremlin creature in your avatar picture is adorable. I think I want one of those as a pet in ME:A. Just sayin'.
Thanks a lot. ![]()
I made a thread about the artist: http://forum.bioware...ist-bobby-chiu/
I'm sure he would be happy to work wit Bioware.

So do I especially cute young looking ones. In fact the Shepard I'm currently running I find kind of cute
Depends on the voice and the animation. I liked Jennifer Hale better than Mark Meer. But I prefer the male jedi knight in SWTOR. Regarding animation, if she moves retarded like the Inquisitor in DA:I, then I'll go with a male.
Always male, as a male i cant feel like playing a female, it just doesnt feel attractive.
Quick off topic question:
Spoiler
WTF why should I give a crap.
Just checking something.
Male Vanguard or Engineer, If the game is good enought, I'll try all classes, and my usual Female Infiltrator.
I don't know why, but all my female characters in ME are Infiltrators.

I never really thought about class in terms of character gender, though the Cerberus faction kinda does this, with Phantoms and Nemeses being all female, with the exception of Kai Leng, and in MP with the Dragoons being the closest thing to a Vanguard on their end.
How does it feel to be Cerberus? ![]()

Male. I have a hard time connecting when playing as female.
As if I'd ever start a roleplaying game as something different than female.
Don't care about the sex. I'm just hoping to see people like myself represented in gaming. That's right, i'm talking about us lefties. There needs to be more strong left handed characters in games, and given the option, i'll play as one every time. I'm tired of having to play as right handed characters as it's just not interesting to me anymore. I just can't connect or identify with them.

As a southpaw, I agree.
As do I as I'm left handed as well in sports games I usually set my character up as a left hander just cvan't do it on games like this I guess.
