The combat system in the PS1 era FFs (including random encounters) was something I neither cared for nor actively disliked. If they make it more like FFXII or something (like DAO) that's fine with me. I have no idea what XIII's combat is like.
From what I've seen if XV's combat, sure, why not, that works too.

I think Vincent's outfit will probably get through unscathed. Its gone unchanged through one shooter and Advent Children without issue.
Aerith's is too iconic to change. Cloud, Tifa, and Yuffie will probably get updates (Minor in the case of Cloud, the girls will probably be more in line with their Advent Children appearances, which were great)
Who was that new Turk in Crisis Core? Cissnei? Maybe they'll have her make a cameo.
I can't wait to meet my favorite Scottish fortune telling cat robot in HD...

As to the combat system, I'm predicting some parts of XIII (Mostly the camera and the way characters actually moved around the battlefield instead of standing in a straight line), but probably retaining the turn based aspect, I hope.
They may also phase out some of the more outlandish monster designs (Anyone remember the bizarre house monster in Midgar?)
I'm thinking its going to be more pause and play, combat will be heavily action oriented (this has to appeal to a wider audience now so they can make a bigger profit) with reiterations of heavy attacks, light attacks and how you combine them into combo's, with a pause and select for spells and special abilities similar to the witcher 3. I suspect Ai will control party members you aren't using with your being able to either customize their tactics, or issue orders to them, hopefully like a more indepth version of ME.
I hope they kill the cinematic summons to a degree, not completely remove them but cut down on the animation time, Knights of the Round should not be nearly 2 minutes long. In fact no summon should be more than 20 to 30 seconds tops.

I don't think cloud will get an update to his look. Since him dressing in a soldier outfit, sort of suits the story. I don't know if they will change Tifa either, just because her FF7 outfit is also iconic.

How so? You still get you control all the characters, have all the same options as ff7 except now and this is again just the most likely scenario, you aren't waiting between turns, or sitting through 1:30 second commercial breaks called summonings.

i would hope they don't as CC didn't lend itself to a party based combat system, not to mention it was pretty limited combat wise unless you're suggesting they make every attack a cgi cut scene. I was trying to describe it as close to what ff15 will likely be like as possible without directly mentioning that game as again haven't played it yet, and only seen the demo. unlike 15 (this is an assumption based on what i remember seeing in the demo) im still hoping the option to switch between characters will be there.

Tifa though, I'm just not sure I see the straining tank top and suspender shorts working so well now, especially considering how good her much more tasteful Advent Children look is. I'm not saying they'll use that, just that they might move a little more towards that rather than the half naked raw sex appeal design.

Her outfit in Advent Children was hot, so that's a push.
Tifa and the Sephiroth fight/music are the only reasons to watch that movie.

Yuffie's cameo is cool too.

I also liked the Bahamut fight and those two Turks blowing themselves up on the bridge for no other reason than that they had enough HP to tank it, apparently.
Actually you know what, I just liked everything about that movie. Fight me not in real life because you're jacked so maybe a video game you suck at pls.

I absolutely love a turn-based combat system and I would be disappointed if they remove it entirely.
That being said, I wouldn't mind shorter summons.

Yea VII has some of the most unique enemies in the game, sure some of them are cut & paste palette swaps like the SOLDIER, bird and sahagin enemies but since we have a good year and a half/two years there's no reason why they can't individually recreate them all in the new engine they're using for the Remake.

They are going to ruin this game in ways that will boggle the imagination. It will drive sane people crazy while driving the crazy to Albuquerque New Mexico and leave them to die of exposure in the desert.

I wanted to bump this to add that SE should make note to update the FF7 Remake with the appropriate changes, etc such as the ra, ga, ja -suffix- of the spells (eg Firaga,etc) and update Odin's sword attack to Zantetsuken instead of "Steel sword" or whatever.
