Not sure why but I'm going to log an hour each night of my PuG activities, mostly to reflect on how I feel about the current state of the game..TL/DR at end.

Me: Eastern Standard Time, PS4, Ethernet connection; Comcast; 28 mb/s down, 8 mb/s up.

6/23/2015 8:30PM - 9:30PM

Friends List: 20 online, 3 playing DAMP, 12 playing other games, 5 blank.

I am not picking classes to suit the PuG, I am playing whatever I feel like and let the consequences roll.

Game 1

Quick Match, Perilous, Random. picks FC, inferno dragon.

3 total people in lobby. Leader leaves. 2 people in lobby, nobody joins. I wait 5 minutes readied up, nothing happens, I leave.

Game 2:

Quick Match, Perilous, Random, picks FC, random dragon (frost)

2 total people in lobby. i ready up and so does leader.we both die zone one and 2 other people join before we fade out. we all die. nobody leaves (which would be normally surprise me if Perilous wasn't a complete desert). Nobody plays any support classes at all. Nobody seemed to have much HoK either.

Game 3:

ready up again in previous team's lobby. we all ready up.

we all wipe again zone 1. Still didn't have any barrier classes. If the PUGs had heal on kill, they should have doubled down on it. I have a funny feeling these were threatening players that found threatening dry, and went to try a perilous instead.

Game 4

1 pug leaves, then another. its me and the original leader left. He readies up as the same class, the one he died within 10 enemies of Zone 1 as, again. I give up.

Game 5:

Quick Match, Perilous, Random, picks Orlesian Cheatau

3 people total, 1 more joins, we start. we wipe on zone 1. These players are flat out terrible. Of course, nobody brought a barrier/support class, and if they had heal on kill, they sure didn't kill much.... Team-oriented play was once again at 0%.

Game 6:

1 pug leaves, another joins immediately. (one of my earlier PUGs from Ferelden castle) we start. not a great pug, make it to zone 5 and wipe instantly. The PUG from FC is ok. But its obvious neither of us are in the mood to play one of our perilous solo classes. All games so far have been completely joyless. Of course again, nobody played a barrier/support class or had enough HoK. Side note - everyone is using endgame weapons from Griffon Bow and Caliban to Dragon Weapons. I start to notice that more than the HoK, nobody seems to want to use potions. I drop some healing mists, resist potions, rock armors, etc. The PUGs so far do nothing of the sort.

Everybody leaves except the old pugger from Ferelden castle. As much as I feel for the poor fellow, I am doing an experiment here. I leave to try quick match perilous one more time.

Game 7:

 Quick match, perilous, random

Get put into my own lobby as leader on Elven Ruins. 1 guy from my friends list joins. we ready up.

Struggle mightily, no one joins, we wipe eventually. My heart just isn't in it, I am having zero fun. God this is a freaking chore.

I was going to call it a night, but I tried one more. FOR SCIENCE!

Game 8:

quick match, threatening, random, (wouldn't ya know it?=, I land in FC)

put into full match in progress instantly, start in zone 2. rubberbanding is BAAAAD...

OP Avaar with a 250 match AW banner beasts everything whether we want him to or not. My hour is almost up, the urge to quit is strong, holy crap threatening is the most boring thing ever.

The Avaar keeps beasting and on Zone 4 I ignore the two weak PUGs as they fade out. The weakest pug is leader and forces host migration by leaving and is replaced immediately by a fresh PUG. Avaar gets overzealous and wipes, forgiven because he has skill though. Dog creature spawns behind the treasure door in zone 4, is completely unkillable without opening the door. Thank god we had the proper class to open the door.

Facing Red Templars on Zone 5, Avaar wipes (he must have gotten bored/sick of carrying the plebs). I hang out on my side mopping up mob after mob (barrier and 36% HoK makes this autopilot) Both weaker Pugs wipe and leave - I assume they left (LEAVE?!?!?! ON ZONE FIVE?) or I guess got crashed, and 2 new ones join and help me wrap up.

i am not embarrassed to say that the only enjoyment I had out of tonight was letting those two weak PUGS wipe while I stood 3 feet away. my only regret is not remembering to get in a couple cups of tea.

Hour is up!

TL;DR and Observations:

2 people on my friends list were in a full party each the whole time, so some people must still be playing.

Seems perilous public games are completely dead.

Threatening is more populated, but not by much.

Only saw 1 high level banner/portrait/title, doesn't mean much except when coupled with the low population of PUGs; the general skill quality of all but 1 player I encountered was medium low to very bad.

Connection issues were not that bad tonight.

Ferelden Castle Zone 4 - Zone 5 issues continue. Spawns behind a locked door.... GG BW.

Tonight was not fun at all, I kind of wish I hadn't committed myself to doing this.

I'm going to reward myself with ice cream and Penny Dreadful.

PS BONUS: I opened a large chest, having obtained about 1200 gold for my hour of effort. All items were common, lvl 12 and under.

Wednesday Night

7:30PM - 9:30PM

Game 1:

SilverSmurf takes pity on me and stays up past his bedtime. Speed clear threatening. 1 pug leaves afterward.

Game 2:

Smurf's last game. Speed run threatening. 1 pug joins, then leaves afterward.

Game 3:

new leader ninja changes to perilous with 2 people running lvl 1 chars. we wipe zone 1. 1 pug leaves.

Game 4:

leader goes back to threatening. We were doing great, then on Zone 5, I lose connection to session. Most annoying thing about this is that my lvl 1 character is still.....level 1. UGH.

I take a break.

Game 5:

Quick match, threatening. join random game in progress, full team. Turns out it is Ferelden Castle. Ugh incoming. Yet, 2 people have 100 clear character protraits, hope springs eternal. Everything is speed clearing smoothly. Ends up going great. Yay!

Game 6-9:

same team, speed clearing threatening. everything goes well, then the pug leader tries to ninja up to perilous, 1 of the 100 clear portrait guys leaves. back to threatening lol, one last game.

TL;DR:

everything went fine tonight, connection is still really wonky, especially when playing with friends on your list that are outside of your region. otherwise, nothing much to report.

thursday night 10:20 to 11:20 PM EST

Game 1

Quick match, random, perilous, inferno FC dragon.

join on zone 3 as ele. there's a reaver with 3 wipes already and a lvl 20 duelist with three wipes. other ele rings dragon gong. we fight valiantly, but eventually lose. (two fire spec'd eles against inerno dragon is a bad idea.) everybody leaves after the loss.

Game 2

quick match, infinite join loop, have to restart game.

Game 3

try to join a friend's game, all full. they are all full  :(

Game 4

quick match, random, perilous, end up starting from scratch in FC. leader picks frost dragon, whew. 2 people have no banners or portraits...not a good sign these days. (chances of leaderboarder trying to be incognito? ZERO lol)

 wipe instantly on Zone 2.

Game 5

quick match dropped into perilous chateau. 100 clear character portraits, 1mil gold banner, pug should be good to go, i round things out with a warrior. rubberbanding in this game is pretty epic.

Game 6

realize i was playing with a friend in game 5. we put some teamwork together, again no banner PUGs round out the group. Rubberbanding is bad, but since i expect it this time, i compensate.

had a hilarious moment with that friend who i dont think spends much time with little children try to explain to an 8 year old about the game. who responded to him with things like " the arcane warrior is best" and asked questions like "whats your highest level and whats the most damage you've ever done". I think the best things he said though were "this game could be cool if it had more maps and stuff", "elder scrolls is better", and "i played diablo 1 but the graphics sucked".

It was pretty damn cute but considering the kid wiped in zone 2 and talked the rest of the time, I figured it was time for ice cream and penny dreadful.

TL;DR observations

Lots of people without the skill to play perilous are reaching for it these days. People that have friends are only playing with their friends. Connection issues and rubberbanding abound.

Haha. Sounds awesome, lol. Unfortunately my cousin pressured me into buying Diablo 3, which I am now addicted to. On top of that I now have a full time job, so DAMP is on the back burner for now. Sorry :'(

Perilous pug is a desert. Nobody plays it because:

Most of pugs are casual players, are still learning, medium/weak equipment and low promotions, don't have a solid group to help out. Oh, and Bioware nerfed the AW, that was the default starter perilous kit.

I had a wonderful PuG just a little bit ago. I joined into a lobby with three brazilians in FC inferno then they changed it to frost. I waited in the lobby for 7-10 minutes and then we started and they kicked me immediately. I mean I don't mind getting kicked but please don't waste so much time. They could have just said something, anything and it would have been AOK.

This is pretty much how my game is right now   I can´t manage perilous in pugs for the love of all that is saint. Just my last attempt, nobody joined, so we risked it in two and wiped five metres from starting doors of Zone 1 when all enemies on map trickled in. I rage quit again. This game is destroying my ego(or what´s left of it)

I am waiting for few friends to come online.

Yumi, feel free to add me on psn Aggro_Jagg, I've played a couple games with smurf before so I may be around your timezone, maybe not!

Although Smurf always seems to quit after one round, maybe I smell too strongly of tea and crumpets or something!

Mostly sail through threatening games as they feel the quickest, but always happy to run perilous for the giggles.

You're being awfully smug about those pugs in the first games not switching characters to suit your needs, considering you did the exact same thing. Makes you as much a part of the problem as they are.

The purpose was to examine the behavior of the PUG group itself and the reaction. If someone mic'd up and asked me to change I would. I guess i didn't keep a written list of my class changes because I changed class after every match.

Oh that's another note to add- I have yet to have a pug use a mic this week.

I'm not trying to be smug but simply report my nightly experiences. If I say a PUGer was bad, I'm not saying I'm some awesome player. If someone is bad, they're just bad.

Like noticing a player that never breaks LoS with archers and goes down or that one guy who always runs ahead forcing the keeper to throw the barrier awkwardly, and two people end up unbarrierred when they all should have been.

I talked about not adapting to the PuG because I was trying to illustrate that a point, not be a jerk. If we wipe twice on zone 1 perilous with no barrier classes, you'd think somebody would switch to keeper or virtuoso or elementalist. But nope.jpg. And that was the kind of behavior I was interested in observing.

Much like with ME3MP back in the days, a lot of times the Universe seems to chuckle at you by either giving you pristine connection with reeeeeeally not-so-good players... or you find a room where everyone looks clearly competent and you're ready for a nice wreck-fest instead of a carry... only to enter the world of The Rubberband Man or (especially ME3MP days) instantly crash or lose connection on the load screen going into the actual match.

Wednesday Night

7:30PM - 9:30PM

Game 1:

SilverSmurf takes pity on me and stays up past his bedtime. Speed clear threatening. 1 pug leaves afterward.

I just now saw that lol

If I'm still online when you get on send me a message and we can party up again if you want.  Finished 250 Duelist and Avvar so I might be on Alchemist

I can't face playing Virtuoso in threatening because perilous is too easy with him.  So he's around 120 for while so I can work on other stats.

Aggro giving me agro ... :(

We've played a little more than one game together :P    I tend to throw in the towel around 00:30-01:00 UK time.  I work at 7am and this game is destroying my chance at sleep (that and a 5 month old baby I guess)
