Could CGI replace live models for photography, or even acting and stuff?

It seems that the traditional animation needs more handjob and the CG Animation needs more mousejob. Both of them have their own kind of difficulties.

Yes, more handjob is yet another point in favor of traditional animation.

In the case of Hand drawn animation vs CG3DI animation, CG allows for assets to be accumulated, once you texture the model, you can use that for the rest of the movie/series if you don't change the look beyond maybe some scratches or blood AKA changing the texture not the model. As well as movements don't necessarily need to be done frame per frame.

Hand drawn you start over with every frame, baring anything that doesn't changes from the previous frame, such as backgrounds.

This is of course ignoring puppet systems in things like Adobe Flash or Toon Boom.

Seriously. did anyone see Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within?  I know it's been almost 15 years, but we're still not there yet.

CGI is best used on things that aren't meant to be human.

It was beautiful. Kinda sad that some character didn't make it.

It was more like a cross over between X-Files and Alien (as I remember... my memory is messed up)!

One of the most difficult things go get right. Bioware did this well in dragon age 2. Disney is phenomenal at this

Yes, but you won't live to see it to the extent that you are imagining it to be.

Pretty much this....

I loved that Final Fantasy movie to bits.  It is creepy how lifelike Aki was in some scenes.

Another one was "The Polar Express" but it was creepy for other reasons.  While the CG humans looked fine the animation seemed very stiff and robotic..

Definitely. But not this decade, and quite possibly not the next decade. But I'm sure it'll happen this century (to play a safe prediction).

We'll also have a mass population used to the idea of computerized entertainment, this will help in terms of acceptance and push for greater tech.

"Wow, just look at those textures. Think of how many games could be made with this engine...

...oh, and I'm stuck."

LOL Very pretty, but it showed no environment interactivity, no demonstration of how many characters could be on screen at once, no actual elements of gameplay that the engine supported or improved on... it was literally just "more shiny." I despise tech demos that are just graphics pr0n.

I think you are approaching this in the wrong way jim. The purpose was just to display the texture and lighting quality which is amazing. Here is one with more reactivity.
