I guess you mean mine.  It's here.

No, I didn't disable the pausing, and I'm not talking about the scripts here -- my UI mod (not connected to this, but many people use it) disables the text "GAME PAUSED" from appearing in the middle of the screen.  The game still pauses, and it still says "Game paused" in the chat box.

Hi Tchos,

I will have to check that out! I did a quick look last week (at removing the words themselves), but did not see any obvious way to do it, so I am interested to see what you did. :)

Cheers,
Lance.

It's very simple -- just delete or comment out the "pause notification" section in noticewindow.xml.  You don't need to sift through all of the XML in the mod to find it.  :)

Hi Tchos,

Doh! I checked for that and thought just doing the one in the "paused.xml" was all that would be needed. Then, it seemed to me that the "paused.xml" did not appear to do anything like that.

EDIT: Any idea if the "paused.xml" actually does anything then?

So, great to get the head's up on that! :)

Many thanks,
Lance.

I'm really not sure what "paused.xml" is for.  My mod doesn't touch that file and the notification is still gone, so I can tell you it's not necessary to do anything to that file to eliminate the "GAME PAUSED" on the screen.

Hi Tchos,

Well done for spotting that one then! I guess "paused.xml" may just be a bit of redundant code then ... perhaps?

Cheers,
Lance.

Does that mean we can change the text? Could we put "Quit pausing you big girls blouse" or some other such abuse :)

The text isn't in the XML, but I don't see why you couldn't put it there.  I would assume it's in the dialog.tlk or something, for localisation purposes, so it will work for different languages.

yep
Dialog.Tlk,

texts that appear in chat window:
line 66770 - "PAUSED"
line 66771 - "UNPAUSED"

text that appears on screen
line 68508 - "Game Paused"
line 174240 - "Game Paused" (this one changed on my system)

Hi All,

Personally, I would just add a text="Big Girl's Blouse" in the XML (replacing the direct tlk ref). That way, you do not have to mess with any Dialog.tlk, which is best left untouched, as in ...

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<!-- Neverwinter Nights 2                     -->
<!-- Copyright Obsidian Entertainment, Inc. -->

<UIScene name="SCREEN_NOTICEWINDOW" x=0 y=0 width="SCREEN_WIDTH" height="SCREEN_HEIGHT"
         capturemouseevents=false capturemouseclicks=false ignoreevents="true"
         scriptloadable="true" priority="SCENE_SCRIPT" fullscreen="true" />

	<UIText name="NOTICE_TEXT" x=ALIGN_CENTER y=168 width=800 height=200 fontfamily="Special_Font" style="2" multiline=true maxlines=3
	        align=center valign=top uppercase=true hidden=true update=true ignoreevents="true"
	        capturemouseevents=false capturemouseclicks=false color="yellow" scalewithscene=true
	        OnUpdate=UIText_OnUpdate_DisplayNoticeText(15.0,5.0) />

	<UIText name="PAUSE_NOTIFICATION" x=0 y=ALIGN_CENTER width=1024 height=100 fontfamily="Special_Font" style="4" scalewithscene=true
		align=center valign=middle uppercase=true text="Big Girl's Blouse" hidden=true ignoreevents="true"
        capturemouseevents=false capturemouseclicks=false
		update=true OnUpdate=UIText_OnUpdate_ShowPauseNotification() />
Unless you need more flexibility.

Cheers,
Lance.

Could someone consolidate the information here and post it along with the relevant scripts to the new Vault?  ...important, game changing forum posts such as this have a habit of disappearing.

Hi MokahTGS,

Maybe I can look at putting something together after I get this module finished. (I have a few things that need updating, like the weather system as well.)

In the meanwhile, perhaps its something that can be "stickied"?

Cheers,
Lance.

Has anyone seen or heard from Owl?  Not sure I've seen an active moderator to sticky this in quite some time.

The owl escaped safely when the town where he was living burning pretty much to the ground a few years ago, taking owl HQ with it. Have not heard much since but know he was safe.

We need more things removed from sticky than added.

It doesn't work for me, alas. I think I have everything set up right, but all that happens is I see a brief dark flash and a text message in the console window. I'm not sure if it is a compatibility problem with the NWN 'xp2_intro.bik' file.

I believe you can go to the Bioware Forum and request it. At least that's how I got Modding Tips stickied.

I tried it with the AtariLogo; the sound played but the image was just a bunch of white flickering bands across the display.

Hi rjshae,

This sounds like a driver error rather than anything I have done. Try playing the bik file outside of the game with a bik player. Do you still get the problem> ... Or, try playing the file from the Main Menu of the game. Does it still corrupt there. (My method uses the same as the Main Menu method, but in-game.)

Cheers,
Lance.

Could be, although the other bik files have been playing normally in-game. I'll give it a try. Thanks.

The 'xp2_intro.bik' file plays fine in BIK player. It's odd then. So... does anybody know do I play movies from the main NWN2 menu? I don't see an option that would apply.

Hi rjshae,

What are you doing here then eh? ;) Don't you have a module to play? ;) Oooh, what am I doing here ... don't I have one to patch? :)

Do you mean you want to add your own "movie" to start from the introduction Main Menu button rather than the default one?

If so, (and if you say renaming your own bik file to the default does not work), then it may need a simple XML edit of the file reference. Of course Because, Bioware may have added additional checks to the file size to ensure only their file plays from that button ... perhaps?

i.e. Some checks include such things as ensuring the bik filesize is a certain size. Therefore you would need to ensure your own bik file (of the same name) was also the same size.

Another thought, is your bik file a different version/format that is not compatible with the NWN engine?

Does your own bik file work the method I have shown ... or if not, does the official one work in the method I have shown? That would narrow down where the issue lies.

Cheers,

Lance.

Hi Lance,

This is just the same movie I mentioned earlier that wouldn't play properly when I used your XML file. I wonder now if it just doesn't like being in full screen mode. Maybe I need to set it up to play the normal size.

Well, variety is the spice of life. :) I'm actually working on five different projects at the moment, with a couple more waiting in the queue.

My goodness,

My poor brain could not cope with that many. Anyway, why not send me the file and I will see if it plays my end for you. Send me a link to download it and I'll test it for you.

Cheers,
Lance.
