Hope its a soldier, along with most of the crew being military or former as well. I don't want some botanist or whatever other civvie that is inexplicably a weapons master and small unit tactican.

This came up in another thread, and I think it's worth it's own topic.
Is the PC of MEA going to be another solider? Or maybe a scientist? Or...something else?
If you had your choice, what would be the broad "job" of your PC? Assuming that your "job" doesn't stand in the way of your class choice? Or would you LIKE your "job" to help determine your class choice? Like maybe you're a part of a larger group, and you can be security, or medical personal, or engineering, or whatever you want.
They are a N7, so pretty sure another soldier.

The trailer person isn't the PC.

If the N7 soldier in the video isn't the PC, maybe the PC is a native of whatever planet the ark lands on.

In ME2, some players were not happy that they were stuck as an alliance soldier when they wanted to defect (you treasonous persons) to Cerberus. I think it would be a nice addition to have some job selection that would go hand in hand with your PCs background. I'm hoping for Alliance N7 Operative, but maybe on a subsequent play through I want to have a background fitting for a Freelance Terminus Systems Mercenary.
The 'jobs' would have to have similar merits in regards to combat prowess I would think for game play mechanics, then integrate the classes as usual but I would welcome it.

Humhum... I'd like to see someone like either a cross between Lara Croft and Tony Stark - an adventurous type, specialized in finding and handling artifacts, gifted with skills in all sorts of technical gadgets and a solid education to adapt to new discoveries very fast. Or maybe someone like an ex-military "pathfinder"(heh...) whose talent is to survive in hostile environments, who has something like a sixth sense when it comes to predicting and avoiding dangers and finding places of importance.
I think both archetypes would fit great.
I also would like someone who is not 100% military, because for me, military means being basically a dog on a leash, without much freedom in your choices. The only reason Shepard could become the one he was, was his "unchaining" by making him a Spectre.

I agree with this.
If a good portion of the game is going to be spent flying around the galaxy in a warship, and engaging in ground combat, the character should have some background where both being placed in command of the ship and their combat ability makes sense.
Having a librarian end up in command of a warship because of *reasons* and then kicking the stuffing out of every gun-toting thug they come across, would kill suspension of disbelief for me. If a good deal of the gameplay is going to be based around combat, I'd want that character to have a backstory where some level of competence in combat isn't too far-fetched. That librarian better be a retired N6 or something. ![]()

Hum.....I would love to be a field Medic !! I know in previous Games we use Medigel..but I wish they nuke it for a proper healing class
I approve. I also want a proper Combat Engineer. That stuff's fun. Even if you blow up every now and then.
I swear, it was the rest of the platoon not paying attention!
Also, I approve of the first pic. But, what mod is it? Can't be Long War. I mean, three choices, then suddenly it goes into the vanilla 2-1-2 on Capt, Major and Colonel? Plus that armor, gotta be Shadow Armor. No way Titan only has six HP.

How about a Migrant Fleet Marine, eh?

Can we be more of a rag-tag type of crew? Smugglers? Bounty hunters? Thieves? I think we're just going to be a soldier again but I was hoping to be a rogue this time. You know, something like this;

or this

I think we'll probably get to choose a starting profession, which'll affect starting skills and attributes.

Whatever the specialty, the ability to play as an academic would be great.
Exploration of an unknown and potentially dangerous galaxy and you honestly don't think the entire thing will be under a military mandate, you people are delusional.
The closest you will get to being an academic will be babysitting them as they sift through the remains of a dead civilization as you secure the perimeter.

Being an academic doesn't stop you from being military or selected for dangerous missions though. Mordin is primarily a scientist and academic, but he was still in the STG and very experienced with combat sitations.

Botanist, scientist, or medic would be great, expecially with dedicated dialogues to indicate the knowledge of the PC. Like make a diagnosis of a hurt person, or recognize certain plants or stuff. I'd like to have dialogues/actions options based on those "jobs".
Even a computher tecnician would be interesting.

Well it's been basically stated that you'll be an N7 Pathfinder - so I'm kinda thinking like a space version of these guys: https://en.wikipedia...nder_(military)
(e.g. like the Red Beret Paratroopers)

You're forgetting one word: Combat Medic. Also known as Combat Life Saver, or CLS.

It would not be bad as a class. Many like playng the healer.

I can see some professions to be set in charge of dangerous expedition
- Alliance soldier or merc, for obvious knowledge of how to kill stuff.
- Black archeologist knows how to take ancient alien stuff and get out alive.
- Some corporate executive would know a lot about setting up operations and defending it.
But medic in charge? Really?
Well it's been basically stated that you'll be an N7 Pathfinder
Survey leak doesn't say that Pathfinder is N7. Neither show anything on the matter protagonist concepts. What's your source?

Thing is, a CLS is a rifleman first.
Combat Life Saver is an extra specialization (I think it might not be it's own MOS?) for Riflemen. Basically, you're the guy who can patch people up, but they still need MEDEVAC just as much as before you started working on them.

Given a choice i would prefer a scientist or engineer (SP 1st play through class since ME1).
Scientist wise, a planetologist, biologist or a physicist. The first two because it would make sense and the last because i like physics
Engineer wise, a robotics engineer, electrician or mechanic. All three would make sense in a colonization mission.
Regardless of class, the key personnel that would be the pioneering team would likely be all military trained (at least up to basic training)/ The pure engineers and scientists would probably come in only when the area was fully secured
