Mind blown.  I love this theory and it's one I have always loved for years.

Video of the text article.

see the problem with this theory is its being explored IN the context of the universe being a videogame. Of course a simulation is going to have parallels with the laws of the universe, where do you think those simulations get their basis from?

if i am a video game character, then I must break the fourth wall and talk to my player and apparently he is an idiot and needs a good spanking. Then Ask God for better DLC if not a new player.

Well I already succeed at that.

Does anyone know where the quick save button is?

I'm thinking about investing my life saving in the stock market.

I have a feeling this is set in ironman mode.

Giving babies cancer and watch them die is fun only so many times. Whoever plays this game needs to be beaten and drowned in a sewer.

Well obviously now I need to go datamine the universe itself.

Although that article is a whole lot of "what if?" and very little actual reasoning as to this theory being a thing.

But I find "what ifs" the most fun.

What if when we die that's the simulation ending?

If you want to be in a videogame so badly, I'll put you in mine: it's called "World of Stupid". It has lots of inhabitants, two ex-friends of mine are level 100 dicktards and you should be fine in there.

Dude this is just a bit of fun.. Why should it upset you so much chill..

More story campaign and less mundane tasks that don't further the plot lol.

First time to think about that? I had that thought when i was a kid. Hate to burst your bubble, But the universe may be a hologram after all. The astrophysicists have came up with many theories about that matter. But for it to be a vidoegame, A book, Or something like that is a completely ridiculous idea in my opinion. And besides, Marvel already came up with that idea with its multiverse and "The One above All" that's supposed to be Stan Lee i think. I think it's a far fetched concept with no real ground. But as the universe itself being a hologram, It's certainly a possibility. But we don't know for sure since we can't really define what Space, Gravity, Dark Matter ... etc are yet. So, They're just wild scientific speculations based on Einstein's Relativity and Quantum Mechanics' weirdness. Same case with the movie "Interstellar", It discussed similar notions about space and time, 3-Diemnosinal space and 5-Dimensional space.

But if the universe is a hologram who or what is running the hologram? That in of itself is a simulation.

Could we? Yes.

Are we? I'm going to say no, because that sounds unfathomably stupid.

Yeah, That's why it's called a theory. Actually, An idea of a theory, A part of string theory that can't be ultimately proven right now. Just a scientific speculation to explain the weirdness of quantum physics. It's assumed that it could be a Matrix-like universe, A blackhole, Or a bubble in the multiverse.

Or we could just be an atom inside a table

That's the idea of the multiverse. That this is not the only universe, There plenty of others. But the theories about the "Platform" that includes all these universes together have been unconvincing until now. A blackhole is suggested because we don't know what do black holes do to information. So, It's suggested that it might be universes all tied together somehow. The idea of the matrix is born of the same idea that you originally spoke of, That the universe may have been artificially created. But this time, The scenario is more plausible and have a real ground and basis. It has been explained thoroughly in the first Matrix movie which is considered to be one of the best movies of all times.

But, Want my personal guess? Neither of those are the answer. Some of them could be parts of the answer, But they're not the full answer. You see, Before, We thought the Sun spins around the Earth and that the Earth is the center of the universe and that the earth is flat and all these stuff only to find out that they were wrong. It's the same case with the Classical physics imagined explanation of the universe that the modern and quantum physicists, Including Einstein helped prove wrong. So, We're doing the same again, The same cycle, Making theories based on old theories and information instead of using our imagination to create new ones that would truly be able to explain the anomalies of the world. Einstein himself said that no theory would last forever. While i slightly disagree, It's true. Until we reach the theory of everything, No theory would or can be 100% true. Even Einstein's relativity is starting to get challenged nowadays.

I am currently reading a book called "in search of the multiverse" by John Gribbin

Interesting read though not the most exhaustive text on the subject.

BTW the book isn't written with eggheads in mind. It seems to be written in everyday language..
