I put off doing this. The following is what worked best for me:

290-310 Poison kills per match. Average completion time +-15 minutes. 8-9 matches required

Use one of these builds:

Alchemist

Hunter

I used the Alchemist and Fire Flask to preserve Toxic Cloud's availability and prevent downtime. Frost Flask and Stealth can be used defensively if needed.

Equip your highest BASE damage weapon available. Personally, I used the Dragon Dagger as a main-hand and Wicked Grace as an off-hand. Equip HOK rings if available. Equip highest variant of the Cooldown amulet available. For the Hunter use the Dragon Bow.

Map: Fereldan Castle

Desired Faction: Venatori (preferably) or Red Templars. No Demons. If you get Demons, restart.

Difficulty: Routine

Strategy

Zone 1 -

If the first treasure room is a rogue door open it, climb up the ladder and open the door. Make sure you have enemy aggro then drop down the ladder and use Toxic Cloud at the ladders base. Wait for all enemies to funnel down the ladder to their deaths. Proceed to Zone 2. If the first treasure room is not a rogue door, run straight to the bridge and make sure to aggro the mobs closest to the locked door that leads to Zone 2. Then head back across the bridge and into the bunkered room. Remove LOS with the enemies by hiding behind a corner forcing all ranged enemies to move into the room. Use Toxic Cloud and wait for all enemies to funnel to their death. Proceed to Zone 2.

Zone 2 -

Run straight to the upper level near the locked door that leads to Zone 3 ignoring enemies along the way. Aggro the mobs closest to the door then head to the ladder across from the door and climb down. Use Toxic Cloud at the base of the ladder and wait for all enemies to funnel to their death. Proceed to Zone 3.

Zone 3 -

Run straight to the Dragon Gong(DO NOT RING THE GONG) then head back and climb down the ladder that leads to the treasure rooms. Use Toxic Cloud at the base of the ladder and wait for all enemies to funnel to their death. Proceed to Zone 4.

Zone 4 -

Run straight to the end of the Zone until you're at the top of the large staircase. Then you can either open up the treasure room (If its a rogue door) or head back into the room to the right of the bottom of the staircase. Regardless of which camp area you choose make sure to remove LOS by hiding behind a wall forcing all ranged enemies to move into the room. Use Toxic Cloud and wait for all enemies to funnel to their death. Proceed to Zone 5.

Zone 5 -

Place the flag then run back to the large staircase at the start of the Zone removing LOS with all enemies. Wait for the enemies to clump up at the top of the staircase and use Toxic Cloud. After you kill the initial wave you'll notice another wave spawns in. Run out into the open to quickly draw them toward you and repeat. You can do this about 5 times. Ignore the faction boss until enemies stop spawning.

Good write up, I ended up using FC as well to complete. I used PW/Stealth/KOB/PC.

-One tip I will give is to not stick too close to the walls when trying to LOS. For some reason the walls in FC are apparently see through to the archers and the corners are soft and let arrows through. If you don't stand about 1m away from the wall, the archers just stand there and continue to shoot at the wall where you are standing, or if you are near the corner, shoot you though the wall.

-Also if you decide to use poison weapons, it is very good for brutes and behemoths, you smack them a bit and let the poison finish them. I found that with the dragon dagger, I would one shot some guys when I had poison weapons on and it wouldn't count toward the challenge. I became good at knowing when to pull back and how to only hit one swing and let the poison kill them. I found that standing still it was hard to just swing once. I often hit once with the MH and then ran back to pull my second auto attack.

-Explosive toxin is extremely useful often I would just kill one guy and let the explosive toxin clouds chain reaction kill everyone while I just ran around dodging attacks and throwing KOB.

Its definitely a grind. But on FC its pretty fun because you can get a decent amount of kills compared to the old maps.

Great advice on not standing too close to walls when removing LOS. For poison challenge or otherwise.

Explosive toxin is great. I wouldn't even move once I got to the base of a ladder. Music is your friend while you watch the killstreak.

Re: Daggers
Nameless blade off-hand does work increasing Toxic Cloud's damage.

That said, it is not required on Routine. It is funny watching it drop enemies in Perilous though.

Real players did this before FC was in the game

Seriously though, no wonder you put it off.  It was a pain to complete when I did it.

This is the main reason I made the post. I was surprised how easy it was. I've heard some horror stories.

I used bosun blade (main) and hakkon (off) and still took like 10 min just to finish 2 zones!  I figured that it will probably take 25 to 30 min to finish a match.. and 4 to 5 hours to do the challenge. :P

To be fair.. I didn't take off the PI and use a superb cooldown am.   And I have all + crit damage ring/mods.    I am guessing poison does not crit.... so probably better off with + attack or something.  And I got dark spawns... are dark spawns super resist to poison?   That could explain why routine mobs took so long to die.

I once spent 30 minutes killing the spiders spawn off a few fear demons....and I thought that was bad.. since the whole time I know I will just get disconnect and lost all the kills.   This poison challenge was worst. :P

Actually....that is better than I thought it would be (max kills per hour, for challenge).

Not sure. Darkspawn and Qunari weren't around when I did this.  Venatori and Red Templars are still ideal. If you aren't, make sure to run to the end of zones and aggro all the mobs before retreating back to a choke point so the mobs clump up. The bottom of ladders make great camping spots. Also, don't call the dragon in Zone 5. Adds a ton of extra minion kills, just retreat back to the stairs.

With higher base damage weapons it should be much quicker than when I did it.

I think it was like 96 or 97 at zone 5.. at least that the max continuous kills I was getting when I was doing the sword challenge.  There is no way I could get more than 4 or 5 continuous kills with poison cloud :P

I'm only 900 +- away and got that far from using rogues often.  might explain why cunning is my highest stat...   I'll be following this loosely to finish it off eventually when i get closer.  trying to avoid grinding anything, instead round everything up slowly, simultaneously, to a giant climax lol

I'm totally trying this... Except I'll run threatening... Routine will be way too slow..... TY!

^^ Kill speed in routine is easily twice as fast as threatening as most enemies all die with 2-3 ticks of poison. I just grinded poison a little over a week ago from about 150-2500 in 8-9 runs, averaging about 20 minutes per run. The health pool in threatening and up is much higher and you might actually have to try and survive versus watch a movie, listen to music, cook dinner, and not worry about leaving the console unattended.

I had a very simple build with alchemist for it, and didn't even get 1 promotion by the time I finished with routine experience being around 5k/run. Used Silencer and Bloody Bargain, the rampage proc was probably the most helpful. Cooldown amulet, upgraded toxic cloud, flask of fire + toxic cloud, toxic cloud ability rings were the must haves. Kept cooldown times to a minimum and handled the mobs in groups of about 20-40 depending on zone, just went past first or 2nd mob groups and let everything come to me, flask of fire and 5 to 6 clouds spread out either in a straight long line or triangular fashion. Got a couple 90+ kill streaks in zone 5 by not killing the commander until last.

This thread really inspired me to give poison challenge another try.   With a lot of positive feelings and fully equipped Luka, I set out to do this thing.

Ran into some difficulties in Map 1.....

No problem, I still have 4 maps full of mobs I could poison!  But then... there is Map 4....

 The curse of getting Druffy at the most inopportune times! So did you ever get to introduce poison to Druffy or were you not able to get past the camping/trolling Saarebas in zone 4?

Random side note, I have also been unlucky with encountering Druffy at inopportune times lately. We got him the other day in NM at FC as a Templar in a level up run with I think 1 or 2 level 1's in the group. We didn't even get past zone 1 after we got cornered by 5 arcane warriors and 2 revenants. Then, 1 day later, me and another guy from the previous group were duoing NM matches and got Druffy again with both of us using the exact same agents as the previous Druffy match we failed! This one we completed though after some other players joined throughout the match. There was absolutely no disco dancing though :(

Nope can't get past the high and mighty saarebas.    I probably could try to call in help but to be honest after that other day of 10 dances with druffy, I don't really care that much about druffy.   I wanted to see if he is immune to poison though :P  Another time....

I didn't know that all zombies, arcane horrors and revanents for any difficulty are immune to poison. :P  Poison is like the red hair step child of elemental damage....

BTW, I tested every combination of daggers I got.  I think my highest poison cloud is with bloody bargain main hand, cordova's smile off hand.  The one that gives you berserk 50/50.  I tried Nameless bade and it doesn't seem to do anything with 5% per extra enemy within 8 meters.  I don't think it works or not with poison.   The upgrade poison cloud is a must have, since it make a new cloud when someone dies.. the gift that keeps on giving.   Having the cooldown amulet instead of the PI could be annoying since I am getting dark spawns like every single time.  The big shield dudes kept knocking me down right after I did fire flask and wasted part of the duration to spam cloud.

I still don't know how I could get the match time under 20 minutes.   They just won't come fast enough and those big shield dudes refuse to move at all.

Edit: And I tried audacity thinking maybe.. just maybe the explosion kills will count as poison kill too if the first guy die from poison?  Nope.. it does not. :P   But it is kind of cool.  One poison fart and everything around dies right the way.
