Didn't think I'd step back into this thread seeing that it has very little to do with Cassandra and DA:I, but I thought that I should mention some historical facts. Sparta defeated Athens during the Peloponnesian war, the Delian League/Athenian Empire lasted only 27 years. Unfortunately it was the end of real classical antiquity. Ironically Sparta defeated Athens with the help of the Persians. It is said at the start of the Pelopiniasn war that the Athenians sent a message to Sparta saying that 'if we win we will destroy you utterly, we will not spare the women or the children, we will raze the entirety of Sparta to the ground, surrender now and this need not come to pass.' The Spartans sent back one word in their reply, "if". Athens never recovered from its defeat; it was weakened considerably and its second 'empire' was really a collective defense league (sort of like NATO) that was a response to the growth of both Sparta and Persia as the superior world super powers. Another irony is that Sparta 'the military state' did not destroy Athens like Athens said it would destroy Sparta.
So unfortunately it was Athens (the philosophers, poets, and intellectuals) that wound up dead first, not Sparta (military state, and a handful of historians) though eventually it did wind up 'dead' due to rowdy helots, Macedon and Rome etc...
Thanks for the info. I don't claim to know a lot about it. I just meant that the "face of Greece" eventually became Athenian, in the the cultural sense. No one really associates Hellenism with Sparta, even though they defended it themselves. And I think Philip and Alexander shut them out (or Sparta refused) in the "League of the Greeks".

Hellenism is actually from 323bc to the beginning of Rome as a powerful state (or once it started to annex the 'traditional' Greek states). Hellenism was in fact a period in time after Alexander died, and Greek culture (Hellenic culture) was most diffuse across the world (due to Alexander's empire). I should add that each Greek culture, flourished culturally sort of within their own bubbles, however their loose (once Alexander died, it all fell apart) state could be considered the 'Kingdom of Macedon'. This 'Hellenic culture' consisted of not just one 'unified culture', but a hodgepodge of Greek cultures, much of which is lost to us (including that of Athens). I think Classical antiquity is the term you are looking for.
There is no harmonized 'face of Greece,' because Greece was never in a state of harmony it was always in flux, which is why it makes sense that every bit of knowledge that we have from the time you mentioned does not come from just Athens, Sparta, Turkey, Thrace, or what have you, it comes from all of those places. The general public who have only watched "HBO" Antiquity, and Hollywood Antiquity, get this very facile view of what classical Greece was, they might thing Greek = Athens, when the history and classics textbooks show us that it was an eclectic mix where power waxed and waned between independent powers. There was never truly a "Greece", though I think a lot of people feel weird not thinking of it like that. We have more information from ancient Romans than we do from the ancient Athenians.

I don't have HBO...
I'd watch it if I did though. HBO's Rome series was awesome. Is that a documentary or a drama?
That isn't why I said Athens though. I had poetry, plays, philosophy in mind. I know there wasn't ever truly a Greece.. that's why I mentioned Philip's league. It's probably the first real attempt at something like it, and Sparta was left out of it. And even though Hellenism didn't officially become a thing until after Alexander's death, it was a theme that had it's beginnings in his father and himself. And those who influenced Alexander as well (Aristotle).
I appreciate your knowledge on the subject. I'm willing to learn something new. Just don't bundle me as just a TV viewer. I might be slightly one level above. ![]()
Why did this get you out of lurk mode anyways? Do you study this a lot?

Ohhh, go on....get into it!
I dont know a great detail since I only heard from another about it,aka whining and complaint endlessly about it. How Sakura Sasuke was promoting unhealthy relationships and blah blah blah. I regretfully looked on the Tumblr... tag The way she told it to me was that for a lot of the manga, it was set up for Naruto to get with Sakura.
Even from the little I saw(And it was painful) I thought that Naruto would get with Sakura.
You seems to know to much for someone who doesnt like Naruto.
Former best friend was hardcore Naruto fan, she tried to tell me Naruto was better than FMA--I laughed hard.

I think that people that haven't been in unhealthy relationships need to stop claiming what one is.
I haven't read the manga but in the show, or what I've seen of it so far, she is a girl that has feelings beyond friendship for a boy that aren't reciprocated. Pretty much it.

I probably shouldn't......
I vaguely recall Sakura and Sasuke though. Pink haired girl and the villain, right? You mean no one ever killed him?

Sasuke literally nearly killed her to harm his target who took her hostage and she still swooned over him even after supposedly writing him off

A few came close but no.
And he was never "the villain"
That distinction falls to my avatar and after him a few...less interesting folks
