It was Charles Martel actually. Yeah, call me picky.
He fought the folks that the whole of Europe now welcomes...
*shakes head* the great men of the past weep in shame

Careful now Warder. This is not the topic for discussing such a thing. We already got the old thread close, I do not want that one to follow the same path.

Bah I'm just bitter and slightly drunk
That said o...o
Every character thread derails
So much this ^ The art of Cass has slowed down, as well. As for europe...it's only a matter of time...
Heres something from nammiyammi

I guess I just associate the Southern Chantry and the Inquisition with Catholicism... while Russia is Orthodox. That and she looks more tan than most Russians.
Nevarra actually seems to be a mix of both western and Slavic influences though. "Navarre" is a Spanish locale, but I'm not sure if it played into the naming here.
3 of 4 of my Russian colleagues are pretty tan. It's a huge country after all.
In any case, I do not know enough about either, the Chantry or the Orthodox church. For me it could be Orthodox just like Catholic tbh. Also I am sure that nothing in DA is meant to resemble one particular country or culture anyway, it's all a mix.
And I simply meant the personality/character. Cass is too emotionally invested and dedicated for me to make me think of Prussians. I could be wrong, but I don't associate "Prussian" with a burning devotion to something but merely with doing your duty as demanded by your superiors.

Hey, Prussia did get its start with the Teutonic Knights and the Baltic Crusades. Which, while not exactly pleasant for everyone, involved a lot of devotion and burning. ![]()
Meh, all this talk of nations is annoying.
Antiva is the master nation.
Strongest fleet, and the only one that defeated a full front of Qunari fleet.
No one is safe from the crows.
They pretty much control the trade.
Somewhat neutral.
Before you say anything negative about Antiva, consider the crow dagger you will find on your throat tonight. ![]()
....wow...
The actual German half of me is sort of offended
Eeh? So I should feel proud, right?
And why is that anyway?
Eeh? So I should feel proud, right?

o...o because you made it as if Germans don't have emotions?
Nope, that's nonsense of course. I said the stereotype of a "Prussian" (and Prussia doesn't even exist anymore anyway) is to "do what needs to be done" instead of acting guided by emotions without considering the consequences.
Prussia is prussia and prussia is a region, regardless of what the neo germanics call it.Nope, that's nonsense of course. From my understanding, what most Americans such as myself consider Germanic stereotypes (cold, efficient, humorless) are considered Prussian/Northern German stereotypes. Southern Germany is stereotyped as the opposite, and of course both are more complicated than that. I had one book describe it as simply Germans working as hard as they play, but American productions just focus on the working part. *shrug*
And I find their current upper government entirely ineffective... But such is modern Europe.
Blame it on the U.N.
Blame it on the U.N.
It was the first confederation of Germania under a single ruler, and yes The Moorish kingdom is another name for it, It also home of my favorite medieval figures such as Clovis, Charles Martell, etc.
What?
The moors were defeated by Charles Martel in modern day France and eventually driven out of the Iberian Peninsula by the Reconquista.
The idea of confederation of Christian Europeans being called "moorish" is preposterous. I certainly can't find any mention of it on the entry "Clovis I" on wikipedia.

I call it that for geography, not political affiliation.
Obviously Gaul and uhh...****...what was Italy under the moors called? Anyway, yeah their different places.
He annexed Silicy if I recall and seized a lot of the former moor land by the time he died...but I don't like the word that replaced it so...I keep up its usage until we are either hit Italia or Sicilia.
There wasn't a name for Italy under the Moors, I don't think.
They had the islands at most. Are you thinking of Al-Andalus for Spain under the Moors?
The Moors held Mauretania in North Africa, Spain, Portugal. They (briefly) held the southern edge of France, Septimania, before Martel turned back their advance at Tours. After that they settled behind the Pyrenees.
Martel and his descendants never really held much in the way of Moorish territory, nor annexed it. They fought to protect the land the Franks had seized from the various splinter states of the Western Roman Empire. Charlemagne's Spanish campaign was a bust. The Carolingian Empire covered France, Germany, and most of Italy, but not Sicily or Spain. Southern Italy was still fought over by the Byzantines and the locals, and occasionally the Moors would take Sicily and launch raids.
EDIT: Yeah, all the names jumble together when you get tired.
I think you got Moor and Frank mixed up. Amusingly enough, both sides were very intent on using those words (or Saracen) to describe everyone on the other side, because they couldn't be bothered to learn the differences. ![]()
