Saracen! Well I look at this way...At least under Byzantinia they had God...but they are French after all...
Technically they had Deus.
Are you talking about the Byzantines (Greeco-Roman) or the Franks (basically the French without the southern French/Occitan influence.)?
All of this reminds me of the religious parallels in Dragon Age. Specifically, Charlemagne and Kordillus Drakon would have some very similar tales to share over a drink, and the Schism Wars of the Chantry are like a more upfront, violent version of the Greek Orthodox/Roman Catholic split. With war elephants and mages. Most of the countries in Dragon Age have a pretty clear main 'source'. Orlais=France, Ferelden=Anglo-Saxon England/Scotland, Antiva=Italian City-States, Tevinter=Rome then Byzantium.
But Nevarra?
I can't make head or tails of it. Geographically and politically (what with the Pentaghasts) it reminds me of Austria and its feuding with France and bullying a coalition of city-states. (The Holy Roman Empire/Free Marches.) But then you have Egyptian style burials, odd German accents, the influence of the Mortalitisi, and who knows what else.
