I didn't think he was dispelling it, even a non-Templar, non-mage Hawke can do it.I just assumed Hawke's willpower overpowered Idunna's.

I think it goes:

Mage Hawke: Throws it off.

Templar Hawke: Throws it off.

Other Hawkes: Either saved by a mage in the party, or throws it off eventually but stabs Idunna because she might get control again.

All of this makes me really resent that we didn't have griffins to have a proper aerial battle with Urthemiel back in Origins<_<

Someone who's read the book more recently correct anything I got wrong.

Makes me remember how awesome the Last Flight was.  :P

Huh so a regular arrow struck all but crippled a wing...I only wonder how a arrow could sail that far and strike true, must have been a hell of a archer.

Bard of Laketown does parties and dragon-battles for enough money, apparently.

It was noted to be of either "extraordinary luck or extraordinary skill". This was after it sustained injuries from fighting two tainted griffons. 3-5 more tainted griffons were sent after it while it was grounded, and even after that only 3 griffons and 4 riders were left to try and finish the job.

Maybe one of Sebbie's ancestors?

The Vaels were there if I recall his family history right

Its really good for hardened Leliana. While its a bit sad, its good for her. She sees the true face of Thedas and life and deals with it accordingly.

Also it fits her duties as left hand, I mean Cassandra doesn't even know what were Leliana's duties but she trusted her a lot and knew she was doing them for the divine.

BTW I don't know what Bioware thought when they made softened Leliana ending. "One day she gathered them all and talked with them and they all agreed". WHEN did that happen  , whether in Thedas or real life.

Hardened Leliana however? Its quite real. Knowing the secrets of every noble, threats and blackmail and having agents everywhere is pretty much everything one needs in achieving her epilogue, and she has them. Ironically on my first playtrhough I had more secrets perks than others so the ending fit Leliana becoming divine. All about intrigue, cunning and espionage. First try to reason with people peacefully, if it fails blackmail/threaten them, if it fails they will find a dagger on their throat. Its not "nice", but Thedas is not nice either.

So True, but some people like to think that merely 'talking' works.

I did not like "The Last Flight"

Magic overdose, every character of any import is a mage and we only ever follow them. It gets tiresome to read

"And then she rained fire and ice at the Darkspawn" every time there was action

He died of loss of blood? Infection? Internal hemorrhage?

Not surprising since its implied mages turned the tide in every blight. Last flight is about a blight.

It worked in DAO. All of her powers pretty much revolved around changing people's mood through words, stories, and....presentation, I suppose.

Garahel and crookytail were important and they weren't mages. Granted, Garahel was a side character to his badass sister Isseya, but still, Garahel was enjoyable to read about every time he came up, and if it weren't for he and Crookytail, the archdemon might've killed them quite early on.

She is the worst bard and spymaster ever, her only achievement in the game was being betrayed by Marjolaine and being almost killed.

A book about elves and Grey Wardens, I really dont think they could make a more uninteresting book for me.

He died when a stray arrow hit him in the right knee.

From a game perspective maybe, but IWas referring more to RL.

I'm sure it has nothing to do with her outsmarting Lambert and saving Fiona  ;)

Well, there's nothing like fantasy bards in real life. It's almost like magic. It's just inspired by real life bards.. the power of rockstars and actors and poets. But boosted into fantasy territory.

Most games with them generally have these type of Aura spells, and various stuns and disorients. But it's all just words and presentation. So I can find it "believable" insofar as this genre goes.

Funny, those are the biggest points of intrigue for me. Well, elven lore surrounding the gods anyway.

The book wasn't about elves, the main characters just happened to be elven. The book's about the Griffons, and how awesome they were, as well as why they were "extinct".

It's also partially about blood magic and the taint, suggesting there's a link there.

Not surprising since its implied mages turned the tide in every blight. Last flight is about a blight.

We did not see an event where mages used their powers to turn a tide of a battle. They contributed but creative uses of magic was never what decided a battle; they killed darkspawn but there was never any indication they fared better at that than anyone else, it's just that the author will not allow the action to focus on no one but mages, with vivid descriptions of dozens of spells being used...followed by a couple of lines of how everyone else was doing their thing too.

Garahel is barely in it and there is even a reveal of how one of the characters in present time is an Arcane Warrior because holy hell there just weren't enough mages around.

We get it, magic is awesome. Could we please see some description of how the armies are fighting the darkspawn? Maybe some politics?
