Stupid Qunari loving devs

Even so, I wish someone like Mary Kirby was lead. She wrote Sten and a lot of the Qunari lore, but she can also write Varric, Wynne, Merrill, and Vivienne in the same breath. She's done justice to multiple viewpoints. I don't know about Weekes.

We are the glorious templar supporter master race! Living in palaces and having lavish banquets.

While the peasants mages supporters lives in slums and running from the authority

I keep switching it up when it comes to Temps/Mages. Hawke is a fun character to go pro-Mage with (but I still kill Anders).

I could never sympathize with Templars. I mean its not like I want all of them dead or something but I couldn't connect with them at all. You know something is wrong when Vivienne approves when you blame the Templars. Though I suppose she is right when later she says they are useful. It irks me that you must become a junkie to be one as well. I disliked Templars after hearing about them for a few seconds from Alistair. The best Templar is a former Templar  :P

I was skeptical about Anders, but he turned out to be the only LI that changes Hawke's codex if you romance him and keep him alive. Hawke has two general codex, one sided with mages and one sided with Templars. However if you side with mages and romance Anders and don't kill him, the codex updates into the fact that Hawke and Anders visited most circles and "helped them rebel". I'd like to think that involved a bit of Templar killing and good speeches to fellow mages. That's how I like the romance to be. I was surprised it was the only romance from DA2 which actually meant anything in DA:I.

I'm perfectly fine with reformed Templars in Cassandra as divine epilogue and when you side with mages. That's their real purpose, protect Thedas and particularly mages from demons and to bring Justice for all.

I think Anders got retconned. Varric said a lot of mages blamed him for their troubles. He had nowhere to really go.

I'll romance him, but he's ridiculous. It's good for one line. "Want a sandwich?"

Well Varric means the Kirkwall mages, so its not that big of deal. Pretty sure no one outside of Kirkwall even knows how he looks likes, and when he is accompanying pro-mage Hawke, a symbol of Templar defiance, I don' think anyone would mind him being there.

I don't really think that's a retcon.

Is it just Kirkwall?

This idea of him traipsing about the globe freeing Circles is a little too much for me. I don't mind siding with the mages myself, but he himself is a lost soul. And a liability.

For ****** up the system that ensured a 1000 years of peace? Who'd blame you except for people as bad as him.

Well that's what Varric says. He says Anders stayed a bit with Kirkwall mages who escaped, but he had to leave because the mages were pissed. I think the fact that they shoo'd him and not killed him is a good sign. They were also fed up with the system, but they didn't want to be thrown in that situation.

I always saw the rival Anders as what you described. I suspect the friend/rival issue was corrected, alive Anders is always the friend Anders. The Anders who have fully accepted the fact that he is possessed and no longer loses control because he doesn't need to as him and Justice's goals are now perfectly aligned.

Oh? None of the endings leads back to that system, you either reform that system or dissolve it. Says a lot about how good it was when even Cassandra disagrees with it.

Rival Anders (especially siding with Templars) knows he's sick. And realizes he wants true "justice". Not Vengeance. This is the one who seperates from the spirit. At least enough to be self aware and have an actual grasp on the idea of justice.

Friend is just an enabler, egging him on.

Yeah, same.

Both of them remind me of helping people with substance abuse issues.

Friend Anders is the only way he can continue to live on, that's why the Anders being talked about in DA:I has to be the friend Anders. Rival Anders is a lost cause.

If he actually walks that path, he is not so different than Rivain seers. He got "sick" because he resist. If he doesn't, a harmony will exist between Justice and him which makes them to influence each other. Justice can now lie and act human, and Anders is fully focused on "justice for mages".

I remember a codex from DA2 about friend Anders: "Having a lover (or friend if not romanced) to talk and rely on, Anders have begun to embrace the spirit within and losing control only when fighting Templars" in opposed to rival Anders losing memories and such which is again stated in the codex.

Those Rivaini Seers are sick too.

But I expect I'll just have more of this shoved down my throat as the setting moves on, now that Weekes is in charge. He'll keep pushing bizarre and fringe elements and try to make them look normal and casual.

Anders is by no means "normal".

He is just not as unstable as people think he is, I mean the friend type Anders. He destroyed the chantry because he wanted to, he can even be called evil for it. But he didn't do it because he had a breakdown or Justice forced him to do it. He has changed, its true, but it was not something unpredictable. He hated a system and decided to take action. Its a very human thing to do, it happens all the time, he just did it extremely due to his condition and dealt with absolutes.

Killing innocent people in an act of terrorism?

I'd say he's pretty damn unstable. The fact that he wanted to do it, is what makes him so.

Justice or Anders has nothing to do with it. It's Vengeance.

Anders is not evil. He's possessed.

My rant above though is that possession itself, as an concept, is becoming a "benign" thing in this setting too. Even that has to have a "good" side now.

I'm getting tired of their compulsion to show a "good side" to the most disquieting sh*t. Spirits and Qunari especially. F*ck both of these things.

If you want to know why people side with Templars, it's because of this. We like a little normalcy and sanity. A little craziness is fun, but not going all out with it.

Most "terrorist" pass their psych evaluation, meaning nothing is wrong with their stability, its their views on certain things that drives to such acts. A certain person named Anders in real life is in same condition. In simpler words, you don't have to be crazy to kill people. Its easier for us to justify it as them being crazy to pretend humans can't want to do those things and something has to be wrong with them, but that's simply not true. I have seen my share people in courts, Vengeance is the most common cause of murder and 90% of people who kill this way are perfectly healthy mentally.

I'll agree with that in general.

But it's not the case here. Anders is possessed. And Justice was too stupid to adapt to this world in the first place. Literally stupid.
