Well I think "spirit courting" is good practice.

I think it can be good as a last resort. But I wish for complete independence of this plane. I'm probably coming from a completely different mindset than you, so we'll agree to disagree (I'm assuming so, since you're a Solas fan). I like magic, but I like the concept of Willpower in this setting just as much. It isn't that I dislike fantasy. I just like those mages who can actually control it. Morrigan stands out as one, for example. Even though I don't like her ideals half of the time, I like her sense of self-preservation.

The one good thing about Seekers is they had independence in the best way. You just have to sell out at first. I don't know what to make of this..

Wouldn't that mean the death of magic?

Bad choice of words. Complete command of it, more like.

I don't see how taking Lyrium is any better.

The game is trying to show us the best and worst of the fade. I hate the worst side of it as much as you, but I liked what I saw with Cole and the spirit of Faith who took Justinia's place. According to Cole, the spirit imitated Justinia to her fullest and whatever she did in the fade, Justinia would have done the exact  same thing.

If I was a mage, I'd become a spirit healer because I'm drawing power from the fade and I'd like to have friends who watch over me rather than demons who line up to take control of my body.

Is it really so surprising? Most of the people who post here are either pro-templar or hate Leliana. It's funny how it all started simply because magic only said he was going to make a playthrough with Leliana as Divine. Funny how some people can't accept making different playthroughs with different choices you don't agree with.

Buddy, you are constantly telling people how the devs intended the games to be played this way or the booksarrow-10x10.png to be read this way because just look at how villanous Meredith and Lambert and whatnot are.

Damn, Justinia would have flown into the air and banished a Fear Demon with fiery lightining?
Old lady was badass.

I don't like demons or spirits. And the one thing I'll believe from Solas is that they're probably the same thing.

As for "friends"... ugh. I think I'm gonna go a little TMI here, but I've gone mad before because of "friends" in my head. Seriously... like literally locked in a hospital because I too high for my own good. And they thought I was schizo for awhile.

I value my sanity and autonomous "mental space" because I know what the opposite looks like. Fantasizing about it is not my idea of fun... even though the circumstances are a bit different, of course. But I can still apply this somewhat. I learned a valuable lesson about mental control then.

JB PLEASE  :P

She would have helped in her own way. Because she was a spirit she was able to HELP in significant way. Wynne washed the floor with pride demon, aka strongest demon known to chantry, so yeah. She was also powered by a spirit of faith.

I disagree with that. Especially Lambert. He was best friends with the Black Divine once and supported mages. He lost it because of the state of Tevinter and his friend turning to blood magic.

I think he was intended to be as complicated as Loghain at least. Still a villain, but not completely so.

Well I totally get you, but we shouldn't really compare this to being a mage. As a mage you will constantly hear whispers from fade, I'd take spirits over demons anytime. Solas says they are the same, but he also says if you are accepting you are more likely to encounter spirits and if you are not you are more likely to encounter demons.

Besides being able to heal with snap of my fingers? I'll take the risk. its MILLION TIMES a better sacrifice than anything else Thedas has to offer to date.

Well that's actually a very good villain line used in very good lores thus far. A story of redemption which actually doesn't make you redeemed but makes you a villain with different colors.

He was a villain in the north and came to south to redeem himself but became a villain in the south as well.

Loghain at least is somewhat of an anti-hero, but Lambert was a villain and became a villain again. Missing your 2nd chance and becoming what you hate most with different colors actually makes a pure and perfect villain.

No, I'm not comparing it to being a mage exactly. You said you'd willingly become like a Spirit Healer. And having "friends". I'm comparing this. It sounds like risking control of your own thoughts.. and not being grounded in your senses (i.e. the real world).

Not all mages have to be at this much risk. That's why I mentioned Morrigan. She's as independent as it gets.

I would have agreed before DA:I, but the Seeker revelation closed the book on him.

Just one more liar in a long line of liars, flailing at power. He was just an incompetent and easily-duped brute on top of that.

Magic should be destroyed, it causes more harm than good.
Almost destroyed the world countless times.

And it has saved it. If you believe the Chant, it was magic that created the world.

Thedas' fate will ultimately be decided by magic, one way or another.

I'll just quit when I get tired of it...which I almost did already. That'll be the "death of magic" for me. :P

I don't think the setting itself will change like that, anytime soon.

Prepare to be disappointed then lol, you are playing the game with the wrong lore.

Also Solas, aka the elven god who created the veil is coming for your arses, magic is not going anywhere.

I don't want magic gone, but I'd prefer them actually trying to write good war stories and political interplay.

For all of their fantasy themes, they still haven't topped Loghain. Who was just a paranoid xenophobe.

Same goes for Mass Effect. Their "epic" Reaper theme just detracted from what was actually interesting. The politics. Now the whole galaxy is wasted because of it.

Not if we don't kill him first.

Funnily, I'm actually watching Conan, and it's at that scene when Thulsa Doom interrogates Conan about the Riddle of Steel, etc..

There are debates on magic going all around today..

Bioware is very predictable lately. So you won't get to kill him "first". Morrigan also pulls something like Solas at the end of the game, we never got to kill her.
