Human -- The K. Dick and Asimov scenarios are something I'd leave for cyberpunk-esque stories and generally better storytellers than that of Bethesda.

Yeah! Androids are winning (three votes in)!

I just added to your pain ![]()
Seriously though, I prefer human. That kind of plot twist would be too bleak in my opinion, and besides, Bethesda isn't exactly known for their outstanding writing.

Him? Why not her???!!!!11 Sexist pig!!!
Joking aside, some visible augmentations would be nice. They would allow you build your character into a half human half cyborg. New Vegas had implants but as the name suggests, they weren't visible.
But alas I'm more worried that this is Bethesda developed rather than Obsidian developed so I'm more concerned about the quality of quests, story and writing.

Bethesda being mediocre story writers are exactly why I want the character to be an android. Because the entire forced background plot seems like setup for some really hackneyed story and characterization.

Eh, don't really agree here -- I wasn't a fan of the whole decision to emphasize on a stronger emotional plot, overall, by providing a voice and ultimately, personality to the main character -- In a lot of ways, an appropriate analogy would be comparing Bethesda to IO's Hitman, where everything falls apart when the spotlight is granted to the character as opposed to his job(in the case of Fallout -- The gameplay and sprawly freedom).
The android angle would spark heavy philosophical topics such as that of what it means to be human, identity, the individual existence of the self etc.
Something I could see in a game from Obsidian, but not Bethesda as I feel it'll only undermine the game.
Nah, I'll take the cryogenic sleep explanation instead.

Not to be a nitpick, but that's actually not possible. An android is a robot designed to mimick human appearance and physiology, often to such a degree that it is often difficult to tell them from a human unless you were to "pop the hood," so to speak.Human, but with the option to become an android.
A human integrating technology into their own body would actually be a cyborg, which is a fusion of a true human and machine.
And I've now reached both my nerd quota, as well as my pretentious douche bag quota, for the month.

Because I don't want to be a bloody object, regardless of how it's refined or advanced.

We're talking about a future where computers can both mimick and surpass the abilities of human thought. If everything about you is human except your brain is silicon instead of flesh, does that make you an object?
That's going to definitely be a theme in this game, given that we will be in contact with the Institute and (I'm sure) running into runaway androids who just want their freedom instead of being treated like objects. It is just a matter if they will take it one step further to make the main character one as well.

Don't really care about my character's cyberneticness, as long as they're gratuitously offensive.

If my brain is made out of silicon I'm either not human or a dead human deprived of its brain and swapped with an inorganic replica in his head.

True, you are not human... but does that mean you are an object and nothing more?
