Anyone else hoping that ME:A is nothing like DA:I?

I was really disappointed with DA:I

It had a very lackluster short story and instead of having meaningful side missions it focused on "exploring" big lifeless zones bloated with lame fetch quests

Instead of cutscenes we got a Skyrim-like camera and letters to read which was just awful

I really hope ME:A is nothing like it, I want it to be story driven like the previous three games

I play Bioware games for the story and characters not mindless fetch quests

Curious to see what other Mass Effect fans think

There are good Aspects (like, for Example, the fully incorporated non-Companion Advisors) and bad Aspects (you mentioned the most glaring Ones) in DA:I. I want the good Aspects carried over and the bad Aspects left behind.

I'm sure, you will agree.

The one thing I really wouldn't care that people complained about is the 3rd person not-cutscene conversations in places where everybody's covered in armor anyways. Cutscenes are nice if you can emote the face, but there's not much to do with space suits so you're actually better off showing the entire person and letting them emote with their body instead.

I guess the PC can't grab NPC's by the collar in the "outside" view.

Yeah but most of the good aspects (good companions, voice acting etc.) can also be found in the ME Trilogy so I would rather they follow them

Agree about the advisors though, I liked how they felt as important (if not more) than the companions, compared to Cortez and Traynor definitely a step up

I might not wholeheartedly agree, because I did like some things about DA:I, but on the whole:

Yeah, I hope it is different :) - just like ME1 was different from DA:O (don't get me wrong, I loved both games - and they are still in my top ten games ever...together with Fallout (all games, though I admit that I now prefer the 3D-Engine from part 3 onwards to the old games...though they had a much more rich story and where longer, at least if you wanted to do everything you could do in them!), Assassin's Creed (I like all of them, but I liked Brotherhood best so far!), Bioshock (only 1 and 2...3 is kind of like DA:I - it's not bad, but it's not a Bioshock either (2 weapon limit? - Damned it's not a COD -.-)), Mass Effect 2 (3 is not part of the Top 10!) and a few others...)

I hope they get their heads out of their behinds (pardon my french) because their last three games (discounting the Star Wars MMO) were not up to standard (at least not if you consider them games they made before...KOTOR, DA:O, ME1, ME2...(need I go on?))

greetings LAX

And wouldn't call it "Skyrim-like"

Skyrim was actually successful and interesting with their letters and camera. Although I don't see either personally in DA:I, I see them trying to copy the Misc. quests though and failing.

I want to play my companions too. DA:I isn't bad, but the pacing structure is terrible. You can complete every thing and still you wouldn't even be done with the game yet.

I liked quite a few things about DAI and some of the things you mentioned didn't bother me.

But I do hope they take a different direction.  I don't want to be in charge of a vast organization, I'm hoping for a smaller scale story with better pacing and better handling of the antagonist.

I am sure BioWare is taking all of the positives received from DA:I..  But Mass Effect and BioWare are two different games that follow two different formulas.  I highly doubt they will make a Mass Effect game based off of DA:I.

I think fans would be upset, not because DA:I was a good or bad game.. But because no one really wants to play a Dragon Age game with a Mass Effect skin over it.

I agree with OP.

DA:I isn't a bad game, but it feels oddly vanilla to me.

And whoever said the pace structure is bad is spot on. I think I've been playing it for a good 40 hours since the last story progression, and I no longer remember what the hell's going on.

The environments are big and beautiful, sure, but each is the same in terms of collecting shards, mosaic pieces, landmarks, etc. It's gotten very boring and it's one of the only BioWare games I won't bother to replay.

I'm really glad ME:A is going to be huge, but I hope that BioWare can fill it with enough diverse and interesting content to justify its size.

I'm still hoping it's a mix of ME1 and ME2/3 more than feeling much at all like DA:I.

Nothing? No; quite a lot enjoyable in DAI that I hope to see again.

But I do not want a copy of it, and hope to see the new ME series with a fresh face.

Yeah, I hope BioWare doesn't make us travel around and collect minerals, data discs, dogtags and insignias. Or scan nearly two-dozen aliens on a space station. Or fetch some dude's family armor. That'd be a terrible Mass Effect game.

Agreed with the bold. Aaryn Flynn has already stated that they're not using Inquisition as a template for the next Mass Effect game, though.

I wouldn't expect zero fetch quests in a game set in a brand new, unexplored galaxy where resources are bound to be incredibly important, especially since they've restructured the Mako and its controls.

The so called Advisors didn't really advise in the War Table. A better method, to me, is for the advisors to give me a SitRep and then advise on a course of action. Others may intervene and disagree on the approach to a problem.

For example:

1. PC - "what's our military status?"

Cullen - " We are weak in the Western Approcah. We have a strong presence in the Hinterland. I advise on capturing a Keep..."

Cass    - " We need to get the templars on our side first to cement our hold in the Hinterlands!"

2. PC - " Leliana, what is happening in Celene's Court?"

Leliana - " Our agent was killed by Gaspar's counter-intellinge people. We need to send in more agents!"

3. PC - "Show me the political map and our inflence"

4. PC - "what must we do to increase out military presence?"

Instead we chose an action from the WT then select an advisor to execute the plan. Kind of a backwards approach.

For me it depends on whether companions will have less to say because part of their budget goes into creating cut scenes. I'd rather stare at the back at Garrus' head while we gossip about the latest side mission than have a few animated scenes and lots of "Talk later CALIBRATIONS!"

I don't disagree but unless they're in a context with purpose the PC can identify with on some level, these quests just feel like filler and boredom sets in quick.

I don't need cinematic scenes in each conversation either. I think the problem in DAI was, that there was so much space between the camera and the persons. But I wouldn't mind non cinematic scenes like in DA:O but with a voiced protagonist.

That is if Thresher Maws somehow find a way to make it to the Andromeda galaxy.

I don't remember that being forced on us unlike DA:I where you had to collect the power to even proceed with the main story (terrible system, another thing that ME:A needs to stay away from)

And that was also a very small part of the game as opposed to DA:I where the main point is to do silly fetch quests and "explore"
Sry but your comparison is off

Would be cool, would make for a fun co-operative experience!
