Also slavery was never a problem... until the civil war. Beforehand no one cared.
Someone must have fallen asleep in history class. There's a very long list of legislative compromises over slave issues.

Okay, perhaps I've worded it wrong. That's a mistake on my issue.
Slavery had been going on long before the civil war. However, it wasn't the biggest issue until the civil war.
Heritage. Am I not allowed to support it?
Is it really a heritage you want to support?

I won't be ashamed of it. I'm southern and glad to be so.

It's true the US politics had more pressing concerns, like killing native americans, fighting pirates, and running black ops operations to destablize that most hated of foe, Canada(Patriot War/1837 rebellions).
But the abolitionists and growing divide between Industrial labor and Manual labor of the north and south were still issues. And the battle flag at least was hijacked by those who sought to use it as a symbol of terror and racial hatred, if not outright concepted in it as others have pointed out. Considering how the Confederacy wasn't even a united front, but had each state effectively become its own nation and barely got along with one another, I'd take more pride in a state flag than either banner of the southern army.
I'd say all we should watch out for is trying to purge the flag from historic areas. They shouldn't, because it's part of the history. And removing dark parts of history and relegating it to a textbook alone is a way to ensure more people remain ignorant of how terrible times used to be.

It's Impulse, just don't even bother.
You've already been given ample evidence in the confederacy's own words of what the "heritage" of the flag actually is. That's really not a heritage you want to "support" if you don't want to rightfully be called out as a proudly ignorant racist. Again, it's only from people like George Wallace, past or present that this myth of it being an innocuous symbol of non racist heritage comes from.
You can still respect your ancestors in a more nuanced way without adopting the battle flag of slavery, and of virulent white supremacists to this day.
And I'm not a "proudly ignorant racist," not everyone in the south was. But it's still a flag I will carry.

My views usually go against other's Rah, you should know this.
Being a contrarian is all fine and good, but this is a little extreme.
Is it really a heritage you want to support?
Yes, be like history-less and culture-less liberals that don't have anything before 21th century or at best 1960s! lol

There's a difference between learning or understanding a history and being proud of it. I think that's the point that was trying to be made.

Is the anime thread all against you?
Well maybe you should join me and Lotion!
I thought you may have been jumping the gun before, but it seems there was great wisdom in your decision after all...
Because I think differently from others?

Not all of it. Isi sensei and some others are still friendly towards me, Rah hates me for some reason.
But here I'm not allowed to disagree with everyone else apparently.

You don't. You use the same frameworks of logic and reason that everyone else does and you're probably not a sociopath either. You just come to really dumb conclusions.
Perhaps I put it... incorrectly. My opinions differ from other people's some of the time. That... I will not deny.
I am anti social, that is true.
As for conclusions... mine differ from others from time to time, thus you see them as "dumb" like in this case because I'm not agreeing with most of this thread. But what if I was? Then you wouldn't be saying I was coming to a "dumb" conclusion on this round.
This hysteria over a flag.....
What about TV shows? Dukes Of Hazard anyone?
They'd have to ban that too for the car the General Lee
Awesome songs... good heritage... we like America for this!

Now I'm confused on how you define liberalism.
I'm too tired to write a sensible comment right now. maybe later
Seems like a silly over reaction. A point seized upon because of a tradgey. If it was a big deal before hand it should have been treated like a big deal then, not after the tragedy and it diverts from the real issue imo which is gun control.

Or the other issue, in that this isn't considered a terrorist attack by the FBI. Seriously?
Was columbine a terrorist attack? How sbout virginia tech? How about the DC sniper?
There's a reason shootings aren't classified as terrorist attacks, this one included. And its got nothing to do with race, gender, or religion.
Odd, I don't remember those shootings having manifestos with clear goals to further political movements. Heck, he even announced his "purpose" to his victims.
Might as well take Breivik off the list.
