I disagree. Millions of people have died to combat the ideologies those flags (Nazi and Confederate) represent. Ban them. Jail everyone who uses them.

Millions of people died to stop Muslims should we arrest them? The same with Catholics. ARREST ALL THE CATHOLICS PEOPLE!

Tis your logic.

Meh its a free country Apple can censor whatever it wants from their app store. Even if said censorship is the result of an overreaction/ pr move. I live in Oklahoma and there are rebel flags everywhere. Pretty much the only people who have them are clueless teenagers trying not to be "mainstream" and ignorant rednecks. I'm all for keeping the flag it makes it easier to identify the idiots.

True, but that doesn't validate what is a chintzy PR move, and there's no better way for history to repeat than pretend the past doesn't exist. Hell, the baby boomers were joking about Nazi Germany by the 50s in comedy and TV, yet the wilting violets of today can't handle a flag?

No it really isn't.

The Confederacy is not like the 3rd Reich.

They're different, but not in any material respect when it comes to moral repugnancy. Each represents and was founded expressly for the sake of a disturbing and disguisting ideology, and in general in defence of genocide and crimes against humanity.

History. In Germany, everything that even remotely resembles Nazism is banned and can get you jailed, as far as I'm aware.

The same should've happened to the Confederate flag decades ago.

Hell, before WWII even.

I know the concept is foreign to Europeans, but Americans believe in a little thing called "freedom of expression." We don't silence people just because "MUH FEE FEES WAAAAAH."

When you try to remove a politically charged symbol from a work of art depicting historical events where said symbol was used, it is censorship.

Apple has the right to block the games, but if these games are simply using the flag in its historical context as a battle flag of the confederacy during a game set in the American Civil War, I think it is an insult to gamer's intelligence to assume such representation would offend us or cause us to hate others.

Apple is obviously doing it to score PR points. They almost certainly don't think of this as avoiding offence but rather as free publicity and a way to improve their image.

History is written by the victors. If the Nazis won America would be seen... as well; Nazis.

Indeed. But is it wrong to expect those rights returned to the people who put trust in Apple to make sound decisions when putting their games on Apple's store?

Is it censorship to remove a flag that was on the losing side of the most bloody war in American history?

It would probably be an infringement on free speech. After all, if burning the U.S. flag counts as symbolic speech, flying the Confederate flag probably does too. Of course, I don't think state or local governments should be flying it.

As for why you would fly it, some people just never let go of the Civil War. Some of those people also connect it with white supremacist movements. Others, who are less extreme, have ancestors who fought for the Confederacy.

Yes, really. By definition. Genocide isn't just mass killing, though the slavers did that too. It is also the eradication of culture, mass displacement, the theft of children and control of reproduction...

Check out the UN definition.

I don't believe in banning any flag. Nazi, Confederate, or whatever. Let the idiots fly what they want on their lawns, businesses, and cars. Keep it out of the government buildings tho. I don't get how someone can say ban them for what they represent when the United States flag is a big fat reminder of the genocide of Native Americans/manifest destiny policies.

Egyptians did the same. Should we condemn the Egyptians?

Apple is a business not a government entity it doesn't owe you a damn thing. If you don't like it don't buy from them. Money talks not ideals when it comes to business.

Do you think it's remotely defensible to say that someone wants to fly the Nazi flag because they had ancestors in the Wehrmacht? Or the USSRs hammer and sickle because they had ancestors in the red army?

It's just idiotic to say you're going to fly a universal symbol of racism to honour your ancestors. Pick a non racist way to do it. While I think flying the flag is protected as free expression, it absolutely makes the person an idiot and rightly creates the impression they're a racist.

>Implying the UN has a valid opinion on anything

Genocide means systematically wiping out an entire culture, nationality, or ethnicity of people. It's no more complicated than that.

Though it seems rather absurd to argue over whether slavery was better or worse than Nazism. "OUR WHITE SUPREMACY MOVEMENT WAS LESS EVIL THAN YOOOURS!"

3rd Reich was created to bring Germany back to it's former glory. Not "lol kill all the jews for the lolz"

Again, "MUH FEE FEES" is not a valid reason to silence anyone. People have a natural human right to say stupid, ignorant, and offensive things.

In any case, I'm not so sure the comparison between a swastika and a confederate flag is valid. Everyone personally victimized by the Confederacy is now dead, while the same can't be said for those victimized by Nazi Germany.

I am not sure if this is sarcastic or not, but no one has the freedom of speech really. Or we have the right to say what we want, but no one takes that feedback and turns it into anything, we just ramble. Some agree with us and some disagree. I own a small house, but i don't own it. The bank owns it, and if the goverment needs it they will tear it down and i have to move. There is no freedom in our society, we just like to believe that because it makes it easier to deal with life. I just feel like someone makes to big of a fuzz over Freedom of speech, it is just such a dated concept.

I have ancestors who fought in the Red Army but were still persecuted by the communists, yet I honor them and millions of others every May 9th and even put up a victory banner. I am such an evil person.

Using that theory you could say we have no freedom since we could die at any moment... the path you're walking down, is going to lead into some deep stuff.
