I'm pretty easy to please. Fade to black works fine. I'm more concerned about the scenes being stupid. Like underwear in the shower, wearing more clothes for sex than I do for fighting goblins stupid. Or sex trading card stupid, lest anyone accuse me of coming down in Bioware particularly hard.

But I also like them having dialogue in there. And I quite like that basking in the afterglow offers some revealing character moments, as is the case with Cass and Dorian. I still think it's the best batch of romances we've had in recent games.

I haven't seen a single person advocating underwear sex in this or any other thread.

 

As for "afterglow dialogue" we have had that in the past without nudity.

So... "characters talking and leaning toward each other seductively ---> fade to black --> characters fully naked and talking" is much okay because.... imagination? and its more adult?

jeez, I've read harlequin novels and romance scene from an 18th century manuscript with more sex in it than this....

 

what's wrong with showing some hints foreplay? a character teasing the inside of one's thigh? kissing a line on the neck or the back of the spine? tilting someone's head for a kiss? Intimacy does matter and can work well when shown especially in a romance narrative. Simply showing someone being nippy and glowy after a fadeout scene doesn't even add anything except "they kiss and is implied that they had sex and we don't know whether its good, use your headcanon"

If a scene used shadow play and camera angles and blankets to initiate a sex scene, but I'd rather it fade to black instead of see a full sex scene; I mean it's not porn afterall.

I agree that DAI had the best batch of romances in a while, but I disagree with why. I wasn't a fan of there having to be a dialogue in the scene, particularly when in one case when you had to choose your dialogue your character's breasts took up half the screen.

there is no way anyone could outbid me on a bust of Kaidan's buns. But seriously, given the chance, why would Shep rather stare at the goods instead of a more hands on approach. Kaidan's not a museum. Touching is very much allowed at this point.

It lets you imagine whatever you like, however tasteful (or not) your mind can come up with.

 So does the Breathe Scene. You know all too well how that went for some people.

But at least there's something after the fade-to-black scene to indicate that whatever happened, was enjoyable.  Torso Shep has no such assurances.

It's a bit worrying how people are saying the act of showing sex is porn.

Sorry, didn't mean anything by it. It's just that if I want to see two people going at it there are other places I'll think of first before a video game.

I also think seeing a scene of full sex in Mass Effect would make me feel vaguely voyeuristic and awkward. But that's a personal hang-up.

They didn't think that'll do, but more that it would have to do. The original plan for the shower scene was to have her seem naked via the use of steam from the shower obscure her like the shadows do in Liara's scene. However, the game couldn't handle it and kept crashing.
