Mass Effect Andromeda and, by extension, Bioware shouldn't shy away from nudity as long as it's tasteful and appropriate to the situation. Dragon Age Inquisition did it well, as did The Witcher 3. Romance scenes, brothels, and public baths are all places where nudity is welcomed. Mass Effect one had tasteful romance scenes, but Mass Effect 2's romance scenes seemed like fully-clothed, dry humping. It was awkward.

I question the necessity of it in DAI.

And Witcher 3, from what I've seen, is not a good example of "tasteful and appropriate"

THIS. I mean we don't want porn (at least I don't.) but having awkward looking sex scenes with clothes on just to avoid a few nipples is stupid. If people still shudder at the sight of nudity after 5 full seasons of game of thrones, maybe popular culture is not for them. Or maybe don't ingnore the age restriction label.

I don't see what's the big deal about nudity either. Maybe people are insecure about their bodies that reflects their repulsive views of nudity.

I thought it added a nice touch of authenticity to DAI, especially after years of hot over-the-clothes romance followed by laying together fully dressed in a perfectly made bed.

So yes, I'd actually prefer they give us DAI-style nudity or return to ME1 soft-censorship.  Much better than dry humping and friction burns.

I'll say, it kinda caught me off guard.  I was expecting some over cloth loving like in the past, then suddenly it wasn't.  But the one I saw (Sera's) was totally natural and felt right.

So yeah, as long as it feels right, I don't care if they do it like DA:I or ME1.

Gotta love how the only options are apparently "Game of Thrones" or "underwear sex"

And how not wanting nudity in a game means you are unworthy of "popular culture"

I am fine with a little, very quick, softcore nudity. I think if it suits a storyline or an intimate scene and can be done tastefully then that is ok with me. I would not be ok with anything beyond what BioWare have already done. I think they've done pretty well in their limited nude scenes. I don't think a bare nipple or exposed derriere for a few seconds is going to kill anyone.

Oh, yes, ladies and gents. Let's make sure we use the ubiquitus word "tastefully" as often as possible.  Which is a meaningless word because my view of a tasteful scene is object horror to a right wing religious fanatic.

So, to stir the pot or shake the tree ( just watched Sicario and what it shows makes this NUDITY + "tastefully" thread hillarious), how about the culture of the alien love interest be such that the female dress up only from the waist down and suckle their young in public.  How about it Bio? You seem to push the envelope, why not make breast feeding in public OK in Andromeda?

I can just hear the Americans howl at this but hey, Bio can always show breast feeding in a "tasteful" manner, of course.

Nothing wrong with breast feeding in public.  Not sure why that's a go-to.

We breastfed our baby in public.
As far as I am aware, the world didn't explode.

Yeah, I don't see what the big deal is. It's a mother feeding her baby. What is obscene about that?

What does "necessity" have to do with anything?

Give me a fade to black or a bit of nudity. They've never seemed in much danger of writing an epic shag-a-thon, and they've got over the characters valiantly trying to hump through their underwear stage, so that's the actively silly options eliminated.

What would be nice is if they could get the animations a little less clunky. Close physical contact often looks odd. I thought ME1 had the best love scene for avoiding that, so perhaps I favour not the fade to black but at least turning the lighting right down and filming it so you notice the clunky joins less.

I think the mistake there is assuming that necessity is really a factor.

You realize that can work both ways, though, right? I think the success of CDPR - along with the "I WANNA SEE BEWBZ" set may have put additional pressure on other devs to show those bewbz, and at this point, they may be specifically composing scenes with an eye toward that goal.

I've youtubed some of the sex scenes from DAI, and imho, the nudity added nothing - at least not anything that could not have been done at least as well, if not better, sans nudity.

Cassandra's love scene is about her finally being comfortable enough to let someone in, she fears what might happen and how it will all be perceived (especially if you happen to be a qunari mage) but in that one moment she's ready to move on and let her guard down, say who cares and embrace a new path. Her last lover was killed at the conclave and was a Mage so this is all tied together with her coming out of her shell again. Had they been laying clothed it just wouldn't have made sense and appeared childish.

Seras scene out of context might also seem gratuitous but she's literally that kind of person.

Bull is just plain good fun, I still laugh about it.

Witcher 3 toned down some of the nudity in the end, especially in comparison to Witcher 1 and 2 from what I have seen.

The inclusion of it in Andromeda was also not gratuitous, it was very HBO in presentation, kind of just there with a dialogue scene, short, sweet, to the point.

I am ok with that, honestly. It's not necessary I guess, but it's inclusion was not a distraction or gratuitous.

I had a woman sit down on bench besides me in a city park (I live in a major city, so it was the only available spot) a few years ago and begin breast feeding her baby. Other than a brief moment of shock, in that it wasn't something I was used to seeing people do in public at that time...I didn't stare. In fact I probably even looked more intently at the newspaper I was reading because of it being slightly awkward at first.

Honestly, I can't see many men staring...anyone who finds a woman nursing her infant 'sexy' has problems.
