If you really need to visualize the intimate scenes, I'm sure the internet via Rule 34 will cover what youre looking for..

Not if the game cover says Mature, Nudity and/or foul language. Then the ill at ease people won't buy it. Or, if they do, they are not entitled to complain.

Now you're using the rating to justify what's already in the game.  Chicken or egg?

The point was "all things being equal"  If you can tell a story just as well with or without nudity, why go out of your way to alienate potential buyers?

And as far as I can tell, there's no "complaining" going on here, as there is no game to complain about yet.  What this is is called feedback.  What do we not or not want to see in the game.

It shouldn't be their sole preoccupation, though. There are lots of things in DA (and other games, for that matter) that have made me a little uncomfortable for whatever reason. I think that's a point in their favor, generally.

Believe me, there are a lot of things higher up on my concerns list than "nudity"  I just get involved here because all too often people who don't want digital T&A get mocked and shouted down.

Well that and those at the far end of the nudity spectrum, who advocate full frontal nudity and on-screen sex scenes are strangely overlooked even as those who want fade-to-black get called children...

I still think that it's probably best to - for the most part - sequester that stuff predictably and let the player self-censor if they feel it's necessary. So that way, you know to avoid doing the romance, or going to the brothel, or whatever, because that's where that content will mostly be. And I'd support having more than one path in romances that don't necessarily culminate in a love scene (although on the other hand, I'd like some romances to dump your PC if they want to get freaky and the PC doesn't), because that adds more variety.

I've said before, fade-to-black is my personal preference, but as long as there are options to not have sex as a required part of the romance, or at the very least the sex scene is skippable (both were possible in ME1) then that works for me too.

I prefer absolutely no nudity or sex scenes whatsoever.

But, since I'm in the extreme minority, I utilize the option of covering my eyes with my my hands during moments I consider icky.

It worked when I was five, and it works just as well now.

Yeah, the devs shouldn't listen to those guys either. Different reasons, though.

Fade to black would be fine I guess, but the DAI approach (with skippable cutscenes, sure) is still preferable.

I guess I still think it's a very silly thing to have a strong opinion about, especially in Bioware games, which are A) probably not going to be gratuitous and B ) are generally intended for an older audience anyway (I know I know. Go ahead and take your shot), for reasons beyond the rare slippery nip.

I'd prefer they have the maturity to show nudity where it should be present. If there's a shower scene etc.

How they want to design sex scenes is up to them. nudity is not necessarily a prerequisite. Camera angles can be used to avoid direct nudity in certain instances. Equally I don't see why they should be afraid of showing it, if it helps the message they are transmitting via the scene. I never get the prudery about nudity in games revolving round mass killing. Crazy double standards.

North Amerika is the dominant culture and leads the western allies what is appropriate and not, sex included.

Living in Europe I find it sad the import of the USA culture to replace my own.

It could be worse. Be thankful you don't have to live here.

Because nudity makes some people uncomfortable? And all things being equal, isn't the polite thing to do is to refrain from things that make people ill at ease?

But all things aren't equal. The whole reason we're having a thread here is that some of us find those restrictions annoying. Living under your restrictions makes things worse for us.

Potential buyers? sure! Equally there are potential buyers that want nudity scenes when a game is rated Mature. As to the story, the fact that romance is in the picture, nude scenes are expected. Especially so, from Bio, since the studio is pushing the envelope in all directions.

Does it need to have romance? -- No. Des it need to have nudity? -- No. Does it need to have profanity? -- No. Does it need to have a good engaging story? -- Yes. Does it need to be fun? -- Yes. Does it need to have good game play mechanics? -- Yes. Good graphics, design levels and combat? -- Yes. Not a buggy game? -- Yes. .... and so on.

At the end of the day, EA and Co. make decisions based on what sells. Sex sells and so does nudity. Chuck it up to the almighty dollar.

There was a thought experiment in the foul language thread where someone rewrote a scene from Pulp Fiction without any of the swearing. Some insisted that the scene was completely unchanged, while most disagreed. I think that's applicable here.

I think that sort of argument runs into the danger of the "well, it doesn't matter to me, so it must not matter to anyone" defense.

Throwing in my opinion: I liked the way the romance scenes were handled in DA:I. I wouldn't mind seeing more of that for ME:A or even more nudity, if it's appropriate to the scene. No more ridiculous underwear scenes or showering in clothes. Romance scenes shouldn't make me burst out laughing, which is what I did for DA:O.

These games are rated M. They already show gratuitous violence. I can't see how pixelated genitals are any worse than pixelated genocide. In fact, I'm pretty sure the world needs to see more nudity until it becomes comfortable with that natural state. North America is so uptight about sex and nudity, while most of Europe laughs at our prudery. It's ridiculous.

The world would not end if we saw pixelated penises and vulvas. As some posters have mentioned, other games already do this, and there is little to no backlash, because those games are appropriately rated M. And of course I would not mind if these scenes of nudity were completely optional so that people who are offended by the human body would not have to bear witness to such atrocities as genitalia. :P

I think it's terrible to promote the idea that any ultimate evaluation of something hinges on a single issue or element, that part I know.

Well spoken. I don't see what's the big deal about nudity either, America has a big sex problem and to me that's abnormal that the masses views sex as repulsive and disgusting and that's sad. I think they should put nudity to approach mature audiences in general and set it up for people not to be ashamed of sex and nudity. I think it's a cycle that we need to break out of insecurity and scared about sex.

I don't think the bolded is really true. They're really just a very vocal minority, and mostly centered in the Bible Belt.

I can see how Europeans might come away with the impression that it is a commonly held view in America, but it's as alien a viewpoint in much of the country (the major urban areas, the Northeast, West Coast, ect) as it is in much of Europe. The religious right is a minority that manages sadly to punch well above it's weight. Part of it is that they're highly motivated and political, and often turn out in larger percentages at elections than the more apathetic majority that thinks they're bonkers.

Religion and politics got to **** up for everybody don't they? I still think that they don't want sex to be naturalized as is, it explains one of the reasons why prostitution is illegal because of insecurity towards sexuality therefore illegal to sell it. Bunch of religious political chastised dicks if you ask me.

I think nudity can be distracting. Because we tend to hide certain areas of the body away, when they're shown they automatically become a focus of attention. So if you're trying to do a tender character focused moment, like the scene with Cassandra, I think it can take away from it even if its logical.

If you're a five years old who has never seen bewbs before, sure, it could be distracting, and then you would be right.

That scene and the nudity doesn't take anything away from it. It feels natural, because it is natural.

Remember the Site Rules everyone:

  • Personal attacks: Do not insult, degrade or criticize any person or group of people. Personal attacks are hurtful and destroy useful discussion. Examples of personal attacks include calling someone stupid, saying "you suck," "I wish you would die," or "you should be fired."
  • Attacks on groups: Attacking groups of people, companies, or user locations, including, but not limited to, home countries, is prohibited.
  • Intolerance/Hate: Attacks specifically regarding race, politics, religion, or sexual orientation are grounds for immediate suspension or banning.

I never get ESRB Mature rating. You get more nudity and sex in any fluffy chic lit or teen movie on average that probably rank it as EXTREME by their standards (Think of ALL the children)
