Well, its partly the vocal religious right, but I think there's a more larger group that doesn't hold such a negative view of sex but sees it as something to be kept in the bedroom, not on display where children might see it.

Video games get particular flak for it because they're still seen as children's toys by most of the population that doesn't play video games in the US

It's too bad, because toys are awesome. I love electronics and other assorted adult crap, but a good plaything is something special. But what do I know? I still collect LEGO at the age of 34.

This is the woman that complained about Ms. Pac-Man's bow because it was a "gender signifier"

I though the whole episode was simply pointing out that she's tired of lazy developers creating an existing gender-neutral character (Pac-Man, Angry Bird) and then put them in a dress or give them eyelashes and call them a woman

Does anyone think the people who designed Miranda, Samara, or Jacob's outfits can handle romance and sex maturely?

                                                                                                   <<<<<<<<<<(0)>>>>>>>>>>

What? Oh my: We now have an issue with skinsuits?  Maturity, btw, is one of those words that defy precise meaning.... subject to one's moral values. "Tastefully" is another of those words.

Anyway, "proper" romance requires many more word sentences which, at the end of the day, will hit the Word Budget Limit.

And, since there is one, decisions need to be made where to allocate the words. Do you want an engaging story? Perhaps lots of dialogue options? Do decisions lead to branching paths that eat up the WB? Do you want a more "meaty" romance story line? Say, five romances, add bisexual options and that can chip away the WB very quickly.

So, what do you give up for more "mature" romances? Ever notice in DA and ME games that there is a common/same  dialogue regardless of the Protagonist's gender? Well, now you know.... All must be measured against the WBL

I have no idea wtf any of this has to do with anything.

Unless you're suggesting T&A is a suitable replacement for engaging dialogue in a romance...

I think people are getting too hung up on Sarkeesian. I just gave her as an example. My point was, for every Jack Thompson, there is also an Anita Sarkeesian, so lets not just paint the whole 'let's keep sex and nudity out of videogames' viewpoint as exclusive to the right wing (or the left for that matter.)

I though the whole episode was simply pointing out that she's tired of lazy developers creating an existing gender-neutral character (Pac-Man, Angry Bird) and then put them in a dress or give them eyelashes and call them a woman

This speaks to her issue with ignoring context. A whole slew of Pac-man spin offs were released, with visual cues used to differentiate one blob of yellow pixels from another. Was it lazy? Hell yes, but how much characterization could you really expect from a blob being guided around a maze? A visual signifier is the only way to do it and they wanted to appeal to a female audience (Which worked as I hear it)

Is what you describe an issue? Yeah, but her issue with that was particularly because it was a "gender signifier" being used to set apart a female character from a perceived male default. Again, male as default is an issue, but it's a pretty poor example unless she wants to suggest that any kind of gender signifier is bad.

I really don't want to turn this into a discussion of her though, she's been given far more attention than she's due.

^To be fair Dean, in some cases, having pizza within range can be seen as a detriment; there are some bad pizza restaurants out there.

Another amazing thing about North America is the franchises. Some people don't like them- whether it's not the small-store charm or some corner-store's special sauce- but I appreciate the consistency almost as much as I appreciate not wondering if my food is rotten or not.

This reminds me of that old joke: "Pizza is like sex. When it's good, it's really good, and when it's bad, it's still pretty good."

Don't forget the follow-up.

"And when it's not, add more grease."

I think nudity is just fine, as long as it is presented tastefully. The video game characters don't have anything that every one of us haven't seen before and especially if a game is rated M, I find it ridiculous for some people to start crying out loud in shock just because of a boob or a naked butt. Nudity is completely natural and nothing to be ashamed about. I find it sad how some people get their knickers in a twist over anykind of nudity, no matter how tastefully done. Game developers should make their games the way they want and not be afraid of puritans yelling their heads off.

You mentioned can the people handle romance in a mature matter and Miranda's ass in the same sentence.  I made the connection that romance and dialogue go hand-in-hand. Dialogue = words and a better romance = more words that eats away at the Word Budget.  You, as I understand it now, were talking about video cut scenes as romance entertainment.

T&A never occurred to me....  moving on, now

If I am not using armor, so I am naked.

Then enemies will start to desire my body.

With all enemies appreciating my body, I will destroy all them with my powers.

My charm will save the world.

Yes! I want nudity.

I very truthfully don't think that this is how it's done.  Or rather, how you're presuming it's done.  I think that they sit down, and go, Okay, we've got X number of lines, we've gotta get it down to Y, or as close to Y as possible."   And then, they sit down with editors and writers and edit out or rewrite the lines.

What part of "skippable nudity" makes things worse for those who want it?

Aren't more options a good thing?

Depends on the cost of providing those options, of course.

Try and sell it. Rewrite, say, the Cassandra romance so the nudity's skippable. Would something as lame as, say, a toggle that turns underwear on work for you?

I think the whole world should embrace sexuality and nudity. It's not like it is the end if the world when people see a bare t**ty out like on Janet Jackson with Justin. We should revamp ourselves of how we see nudity as is.

That's not as easy as you make it out to be, or possible at all for that matter, for some people.

Hmm...

I read Gaider's interview regarding game develpment and cut content and Word Budget. So, I'm with you on that. However, I was on the topic of "mature romance" which to me, is more dialogue, rather than the so called "tastefull video scenery" viewpoint.

So, regardless of who sits at the cutting table, if you want more of one,  it becomes a question of robbing Peter to pay Paul.  The use of common lines, in multiple situations, is a tool to allow extra room for more dialogue elsewhere and still meet Y. Though. frankly, hearing the same line over and over becomes stale very quickly.

I want nudity,YES! Absolutely! Yes,sir! I really do...it's 2016 now.It doesn't have to be full frontal or something too risky (we could get it from the fan mods anyway)...but I want to see reality! Not everybody making love in a space armor with the lights off...I want to see some reality, that's all. Just a little glimpse would be enough, because bodies are beauuuutiful!
