I agree that some measure of control should be given to the players.

Control for players is always good, but that's not really the issue.

In the end developers have to choose, they can make a game that appeals to a large audience, they can make a game

that appeals to a small audience, or they can try to appease everyone and fall flat on their faces. (or at best end up with something mediocre)

The fact is that those oversensitive souls that campaign here all the time for the censorship of everything "naughty", "inappropriate", or not politically correct, are a very small minority with a particular taste in entertainment that is simply not shared by most consumers of video games.

It's simply easier to write a good story or make a good video game when you do not have to worry about being appropriate for children.

Just go with the flow, write a good story and let it carry you with it, and should the nature of the story demand sex drugs and rock&roll?

Sure, no problem, adult rated video games are not made for nuns nor children.

I agree with everything! The old Jack of all trades, master of none thing. It's what I meant with the "SHOULD we draw a line?". If you care about money, and Bioware/EA does, you want as many consumers as you can get.

On the other hand..sex, drugs and rock..sign me up!

I agree that some measure of control should be given to the players. Not all of them enjoy sex, after all (watching it or doing it) yet they still can be very into the concept of romance and they have the right to play an interactive game with an adult focus.
On the other hand, it's pointless to say that i, personally, don't enjoy boobs. Just because i'm playing a game, with characters and a universe that i love, doesn't mean that i want to stop looking at boobs.
So...where do we draw the line? SHOULD we draw a line?

No, just read what's in the bottom right behind the box and decide whether you're buying it or not.

In games, however, you're actively making your PC shed their clothes and those of their potential partner.  So, people can get awkward about such things.

Tim

But seriously. We're talking about a game with gory head explosions. We're talking about a game where it's another day at the office to kill scores of enemies and if push comes to shove, blow up populated planets (Arrival). And then we really go there? To a tiny bit of hidden nudity, ME1 style, being offensive.

Feedback on future games is bad.  Got it.

It's EA ... feedback on future games is irrelevant.

... unless you slate the game on Metacritic of course.

This is not feedback, but "I don't like this, so I think it shouldn't exist because I am easily offended despite the game telling me what I'm gonna get myself into."

No, it's "I don't like this, and would rather not have to see it in the games I play.  Please keep this point of view in mind"

You, however, are saying "Shut up!  We don't need your opinions around here!"

That's exactly what I said, duh. It makes zero sense. It's like buying a ticket to Deadpool and want zero blood to show in the screen. That's not an opinion.

Go figure.

No, it's more like talking about what one does or doesn't like in a video game in a forum about an upcoming video game.  <_<

Yah, well, look.   It's not feedback.  It's input.  Feedback is where they've created something for the world to see, and you're feeding them back your thoughts.  Thus, feedback.  Input is where they say, "Hey, we're coming out with something soon, what do you wanna see?"  That would be input.

Except I don't remember them asking for either.  It's all just opinion until you can give them some feedback.

EDIT :  Oh and they get feedback, usually in the worst way.  But they get feedback.

I don't get why this is a big deal. Make the sex scenes skippable. Problem solved, right?

It wouldn't work on some scenes like Cass/Inquisitor. They don't even have sex on screen, just talk naked. So you miss a lot important dialogue.

You would think.  But having contrary opinions is icky and wrong, it seems

Too many bioware fanbase are prudes who get "triggered" By the sight of genitals and sex (probably because they get none) which is why sex scenes have become more and more neutered and crappy with each new title. Why not just do erotic kissing/grabbing with a fade to black if they aren't going to show proper nudity/sex? Maybe that triggers people too?

I still want full frontal, but deep down I know we'd never get it - at least never a guy, since nude males are so icky apparently.

Won't stop me from yelling from my melting iceberg, though.

This is inaccurate. Dragon Age: Inquisition, Bioware's newest game, has gone the farthest with nudity of all their games by explicitly showing breasts and butts and is rated for Nudity rather than Partial Nudity and Sexual Content rather than Sexual Themes. So how is going farther being "more neutered"?

DAI also had the least sexual sex scenes of any Bioware game.

So yes, they had some nudity, some sort of sexist nudity, and a little bit more nudity- but ultimately the sex scenes all felt sterile and weird (sometimes even like a joke), and managed to be less believable than DA2's fade to black "love" Scenes.

All I can do is keep thinking back to Sera's love (or rather intimate moments) scene.  That was neither sterile or weird.

It was so crass and silly and arguably bordering on "look it's lesbians doing it!" it didn't really come off intimate or special to me at all. I guess we disagree, but yeah.
Hers actually would have been close to what I'm talking about if it were the Inquis going down on Cass or something, and without dialogue that's weird and crass for the sake of being weird and crass.

It didn't come off like that to me at all.  To me, Sera is somebody who just plain doesn't care who finds out about something or the act itself.  She does care about the Inquisitor, but everyone else can go fly a kite.  This is shown a little later when she shares her cookies story.  *shrug*

Like you said, we can agree to disagree.  That's fine.

Personally as far as sex scenes go I like the direction their heading with Inquisition with each individual romance getting an unique cutscene that fits the companion character. Sera's being crass. Dorian's being cathartic Cassandra's being romantic. To me that's better to the uniform sex scenes of we saw in Mass Effect 1 or Origins, which were mostly just awkward and laughable. Especially Origins with that horrible moaning music playing.
