The fact that it's a video game does justify a certain degree of departure from what is realistic.

Of course, it's also true that too much of a departure can detract from a work that is otherwise serious.

Where the exact line is drawn is up to the viewer.

Sure, to some degree it has to abandon total "realism" so that it's not frustrating as hell. Like, imagine in a shooter, every enemy, without exception, can one shot kill you, and there was perma-death.

Shooters with one-shot kills do exist. I've played some of them, and they are incredibly frustrating.

Moderation is key when it comes to game design, IMO. Anything taken to excess, be it nudity, violence, realism, or what have you, has the potential to detract from the experience.

Oh I agree it still does have justification to a certain degree, it's just been used far too much even to legit problems that's been brought up

With regards to female characters, I quite liked the practical design of the N7 Demolisher from MP.

med_gallery_7_41_52259.png

You can tell that it's a woman, but it's incidental, not the main focus of the design.

That is not to say that I'm opposed to sexualized female characters, but I appreciate a degree of realism, especially in combat scenarios.

I'm still annoyed that Shepard cannot wear the N7 Demolisher's armor. I don't want all this Cerberus junk. I wish I could sell it to that salarian obsessed with bartering trinkets in the post-apocalyptic galaxy.

Heh, is "because video game" really all that workable though? Would The Last of Us be received as well as it was if clickers exploded into piles of coins when you killed them?

Heels doesn't match your suggestion. Now, if Miranda's heels exploded into pile of coins then you would be right. See? These two things are totally different.

No. It being a videogame excuses that.

Not really.

I don't care how genetically perfect you are, a permanent wedgie is not comfortable.

Sure, but they're still kind of dumb. But I guess it doesn't matter. These days, a woman outrunning a T-rex in heels is a great action sequence.

The heels bugged the heck out of me from the moment she started hiking through a jungle. The outrunning a T-Rex thing might have actually given me headache.

Mass Effect has a lot of dumb things, heels is the least of their problem.

Like shower with your underwear. Who in the hell does that in real life?! Just show her naked to get it out the way.

How the director didn't think that scene looked goofy, and implausible beyond all belief is beyond me. Seriously, Jeff Goldblum's lanky self was rundown in seconds while wearing loafers instead. You know what, the entire film bothered me, and i haven't watched it a second time or downloaded it. Such a disappoint.

Some of us have the cognitive power to spot more than one dumb thing at a time. And it's not like plot holes are blocking the art team from making better footwear.

Or maybe they don't want to, cause - you know, there's more important issues than footwear, and ME is not meant to be representative version of real life at all.

At least Miranda's heels were thickish boots. The woman in Jurassic World on the other hand would have had too many blisters to even walk normally by the end of that day, let alone outrun a giant predator.

If they don't want to that's their choice. They don't need you to police the suggestions in their forum for them.

Heeled boots make certain sense, given cavalry boots and all, but I suspect Samara's at least were elevated beyond practical.

If people keep coming for Miranda in this thread Andrew Lucas is going to make sure they wake up with a Horsehead before long.

Of course I don't need to, but you made a silly comment so I attacked it because I was bored. So it was offensive really.

I'm done though.

This is a pointless discussion as ultimately BioWare believed Miranda and the rest of the squad's attire was fine, "rule of cool" or not. It's entirely subjective and there is no right or wrong answer, regardless of what you believe is "right." I personally don't care that much. If anything, we should be able to customize companion gear anyway like we can in DAI. None of this would be an issue then and people would go on to complain about something else either being "fan service" or not conforming with the lore.

It's worth noting that gameplay trumps lore any day and everyday. This is the case with all video games and it has been an absolute truth since the very beginning. If this were truly an issue of concern for BioWare, I'm certainly BioWare would have made more appropriate outfits for these characters in ME3. They did not, which likely means most of the player base did not care enough one way or the other. Either way, this thread has gotten way off topic as this is supposed to be about nudity in MEA and not whether BioWare was being too gratuitous in the original trilogy or not.
