So...what would have happened in the Human Commoner Origin had it not been cut?

We know that it would have taken place in Redcliffe, (which makes sense, since it's the only major location in the game apart from Ostagar to not have an origin).  They probably dropped the idea because they couldn't make sense out of the story, but can we do better?

I suspect the human commoner would have been the sibling of that kid who runs away and hides in his house (and his sister).  I may have missed something but somehow there seemed to be an unfinished element to that business.  So what would have been necessary to accomplish in the Commoner Origin?

According to the latest interview with Gaider, you would have grown up on a farm and been invaded by Darkspawn. He said they felt it was too "chosen one" and scrapped it.

From what I remember of Gaider's Tumblr post and the most recent interview, you would have lived on a farm near Redcliffe. As mentioned, it would have been attacked by darkspawn, and you would have coordinated the defense of your farmhouse. I also seem to remember something about owing that dwarf that lives in Redcliffe money, but I'm not positive on that. The origin didn't get too far before it was cut.

Dwyn was supposed to be the bad guy that you owed money or something like that.

It was supposed to be something like this, there is even a little cameo in DAO for this Origin, but then the developers have thought that this was to much to ask, for the poor archdemon.

IN DAI Clark is somewhere in Thedas.....

Actually, I kind of wish they had done this origin.  Human options are severely limited and share one origin with elves and I rarely played an Amell since, given a choice between human and elven protagonist, I will prefer an elf.  Would have been nice to have a bit of a variety for human options rather than "Mage or Noble".

Looking back, seeing the Hawke origin in DA2 and comparing it to what would have been for a human commoner, I'm kind of glad it wasn't kept. I'm sure many would have complained that Hawke felt too similar or that Bioware was rehashing ideas. Can't make everyone happy. :\

Only difference is, Hawke is nobility, but didn't know and lived a simple life outside of Kirkwall where her name would have made her somebody. A commoner working their way up to choosing a new leader for Feleredan and defeating the Blight would have been like what happened to Loghain. In fact, if you put Alistair on the throne with Anora and romanced him, you are practically stepping into Loghain's shoes.

Basically the way they were going would have been like the Dailish origin, only without all the elven stuff that was the only real selling point of that origin.  But what I think would have been a better approach would be to go the Circle route.  Put the Commoner in the family with the brother-sister pair in Redcliffe.  Conveniently the youngest sibling is about the same age as Connor, so make them playmates.  Have the the two of them get into trouble exploring a cave or something so the Commoner has to go after them, then have Connor save the kid's life with a sudden burst of wild magic.  Then present the Commoner with a "no right answer" dilemma now that he knows about Connor.  Isolde asks him to keep what he knows secret and go to the nearest hedge wizard to ask him to be a tutor.  The Commoner must choose to either accept the job, or rat Connor out to the Templars.  If he goes to the hedge wizard he gets busted by templars looking for Jowan and bailed out by Duncan who was also looking for Jowan.  If he tries to go to the Templars then he's pursued by Castle guards because Isolde has accused him of some kind of trumped charge, stealing or trying to abduct Connor or something.

Wait would there have been any mention of this Origin in the actual game.

Like if you don't pick this origin "that character" still shows up but died. For example if you an origin that isn't a dwarf commoner you can still find that dwarf's dead body in the cell when you go to Orzammar.

As a passing thought put the commoner in jail for a minor crime and have Duncan conscript him.   IMHO a shim commoner would have been a nice touch and a good option.

We have Elven nobles ( the Dalish*) and the common elves-the city elf and the noble and brand dwarf..

* Comparing the lives of the Dalish elf to the city elf one could say the Dalish is living like nobles while the city elf isn't living that much better then the dusters in Orzammar.

There are a few bits and pieces of in the toolset to show that a Human Commoner was planned at one point.  If someone actually tries to create this Origin rather than talk about it, remember that every conversation will have to be checked to confirm that the 'correct' path is taken.

For example, the Human Commoner could be treated like a Mage if the logic was...

if Human GW
  if Cousland
     do X
  else
     do Y
  endif
endif

That type of logic is in a LOT of places so you might find your Human Commoner addressed as different Origins.  Translated into English,

If Human & Cousland say X

If Human & NotCousland say Y

Feel free to return to discussions of how the Human Commoner should have been written :D

The "Daveth option"!  A criminal who's facing execution but is saved by being conscripted by Duncan.  To make him be "not so bad," you can have him be part of a criminal gang and participate in a robbery where the more brutal gang members murder some people and leave the PC holding the bag.  Some Wardens are supposed to be reformed scum of this sort.  Their willingness to "do anything to stop the Blight" may be rooted in the criminal ruthlessness of some of the members of more dubious origins.  I think it would've worked...

Had my fantasy been a reality, then you'd probably find the brother and sister mentioning their recently vanished brother, and the quest for the Green Sword would take you to the apostate's dwelling where his body lies.
