I am aware that a topic regarding aesthetics, but I wanted to create a topic focusing on body shape. I remember a statement from Bioware making DAI regarding that body sliders would not be an option due to race being an option. But due to human being the only option in ME:A, I am hoping they can spare time and resources into crafting our character's appearence. There is no high chance of body shape being an option but it would go a long way in character creation as we love to have more detail to edit for the protagonist. I would actually like to play as a character that has the physique of Jacob or James.
Body sliders or preset body options?

Definitely all for body options. If at all possible, I'd like a height option as well to some extent. But what gets me is the fact that there are no body options in DA:I due to the races, yet you see at least in the human race, there is that guy at some of the camps who is a bigger dude, and there is no way to expain that just by "armor".

I hope they do include body sliders or preset body options in this game. If they do I might try playing as a woman that actually looks like she belongs in a war-zone. ![]()

No, I dont think Bioware were claiming all humans in Thedas were the same size. I think there were no body sliders because of the amount of extra work Bioware would have had to do to make them work.

I imagine BioWare are going to hold out on these sorts of features for as long as they can without getting labeled as outdated.
Partially because it's easier to not include them and partially because it's likely not a priority.
But of course, I have no idea whether that's their mentality or not, it's just the intuitive feeling I have.

maybe not necessarily sliders, but preset sizes shouhld then be no problem, if they've gone through the trouble of rendering and animating this bigger guy in the world.

I would love if there was a way to customize the protagonist's body as well as face.

I'd recommend Dragon's Dogma. The CC is phenomenal.
Of course, Dragon's Dogma has very few cutscenes, none of which show the PC actually touching anything.

Slide that body. It would be prefered, but i am pretty sure it won't be in the game. Just a feeling.

Meh, being that we're a military recruit that needs to adhere to certain fitness expectations, I wouldn't be surprised if "body type" was something completely left out of the character creation system. They didn't have it in any of the Mass Effect games, and my experience wasn't impaired because of it.

Own Dragon's Dogma the cut-scenes are terrible
and there are so many little girls
but yeah never noticed that. There combat is best combat I have seen in this type of game though and I also loved 'adventuring'.

Well, I think as Pasquale pointed out its probably extra effort on their part to make your character touch things correctly in cut scenes (romance scenes). I am not defending them I think they could have done it with preset sizes if they reeeeally wanted to. However, I know next to nothing about game design to.

Which is why, I'd be fine with two or three preset options that they worked through animations with. I tend to see the body types as:
Soldier/Sentinel>Infiltrator/Vangaurd>Adept/Engineer

Surely Vanguard is greater than the rest? They charge in with shotguns. ![]()
I agree with you but I have my doubts as to whether Bioware would go through all that effort.

what? I seriously doubt that if mass effect fields can't stop the bullets that muscle mass won't do ****... did you forget that mass effect is supposed to be a futuristic setting where technological advances have surpassed the flesh in every sense?

given Biowares history on the issue I imagine that they will forgo body sliders in favor of better cinematics.

IIRC, it doesn't quite work like that. The mass effect shielding kicks in the faster an object is detected coming at the individual. It's why the Cerberus phantoms were using swords and why there are swords on the N7 slayer and shadow. Because of their slower speeds (when being swung at a person), the omni tool or whatever doesn't register them, therefore allowing them to bypass the shields. Fists should work the same way, but because of armor are probably less effective.

Body sliders would be very welcome but I'm concerned it will lead to display issues for some weapons and armors down the road. Perhaps animation issues, too.

these issues already exist, and i wouldn't call them rare occurences. Shoulder pads and any animation with the hands aren't always quite where they should be.

Well, that was with the old engine. They might do better with Frostbite and MoCap. *shrugs*
I was also thinking of stuff like shaking hands or the inevitable "romance" scenes, where the engine would have to compensate for different body shapes and sizes during animations that have two characters interact with each other.

Where does it say anywhere that you character is a military recruit. From what I've heard your guy a an explorer. You don't need to be military to be that.

I'd like to see some body variation between the characters, and applied to the PC. Even if it's just like 'thin/average/super-fit' settings as opposed to a sliding scale between them. I mean I know they have to make the models work together (Iron Bull almost had race-gates because they weren't sure about the in-game models working right), so going for presets, of just a small selection... I think it could at least be a possibility.

Yeah, I do believe Mass Effect has a lot of pseudoscience but maybe I missed all the information on modified soldiers. What do they use to make up for all the muscle mass they are missing? And why does Mass Effect portray Krogans differently to Salarians? I think you are assuming a lot.
I don't mind what other people do with their characters, but I would prefer Korra to most female main characters. I think Bioware should care less about making her hips sway and more on making her look like she belongs. If they don't want to, at least give us the ability to customise her walk and her body type.![]()

I think Sliders are not very probable, as they would really put a Strain on Animators.
However, preset Body Options would probably end up being comparable in Animation Effort to the different Races in DA:I and are thus slightly more probable.
