I think we need to have a discussion on this, there is so much bickering about romance and trivial things, the important things get left out.

In ME1 biotics were mainly used for crowd control, not damage. Not a bad idea, but ultimately it made sentinel and adept purely support classes with very low damage output. Vanguard was bad as well.

In ME2 damage was added to biotic abilities but the damage was outright pitiful on higher difficulties and only served to deal instant damage to barriers and armors. Adept was really bad on insanity, vanguard was bad and sentinel was quite decent.

In ME3 it was more balanced, but adept still needed more love which it never got. Vanguard was bumped and it was easily the most overpowered class, Sentinel was very good too, had access to both tech and biotic explosions and was very hard to take down. Adept however was again the least useful class.

My point is, in ME1 biotics were support abilities so we can go past it. In ME2 sentinel shined, in ME3 Vanguard shines and I think in ME:A its time to give adept a good bump to the top.

The classes haven't been confirmed but I think biotic abilities are definitely there, so if its not named "adept", then I mean the class with pure biotic focus.

I'm on the other side of the fence on this: ME3 biotics were borderline OP. Liara + Kaidan + double throw = non-stop biotic explosions everywhere. Crowd control and massive damage at the same time, no aiming or strategy requiered.

I'd like biotic to be about control and support again - and a few(!) massive explosions inbetween.

What difficulty are we talking about? Adept and biotic abilities are not useful the enemy is soaked with defensive barriers, shields and armor. Guns do it so much better, specially with unique ammo.

If you have Kaidan, who brings both tech and biotics to the table, you can pick any class and squadmate you want as long as they are gun users. I mean most combinations work, but biotics can easily lack power on higher difficulties where it will take ages to destroy an Atlas.

Also Sentinel was leagues better than Adept. Had explosions, more tough to take down and more useful in general with tech support as well.

Adept needs love.

Vanguard got a much needed change.

I'm playing through ME1 now for the first time and just-

Spoiler

(This Gif represents my reaction at ME1 Vanguards.)

Then ME2 came along and we got charge. . .but there was still something off. . .

Spoiler

(This gif depicts a charging Vanguard remembering his old days and imagining if he could wiggle about with Nova.)

THEN NOVA CAME AND RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! *BOOM! SHOOTY SHOOTY BANG BANG!*

They became close combat biotics, not to mention the close combat melee class in general.

---------------

Adept doesn't really have a solid focus in comparison Vanguard which I think is a boon in that regard, but I think they need something else more special and unique to them rather than just having a variety of biotic attacks.

I never play Adept. In mass effect 1 I play a soldier with a selected biotic ability, which balances things out a little. In ME2 I play a Vanguard, and I disagree - if you know how to play it right, it was overpowered in ME2 as well.

In ME3 Vanguard is overpowered to begin with, and if you know how to aug it right, with the right stats, right gear, right power boosts, right weapon mods - it is downright almost godlike. It makes insanity feel like easy.

ME2 vanguard needs a lot effort and caution to play but its not worth it. Because Sentinel is simply better than it, both on close range and long range.

Oh, and if you really want a fun time you could play as a sniper vanguard build, alternating between close range brutal combat, and long range sniping + crowd control. That's how my last few playthroughs have been. It literally makes every single mission on Insanity laughable with the exception of the clone battle. You are equipped to deal with anything that is thrown at you.

Edit: And playing Omega with a sniper Vanguard and Aria. Hoooooooooly ****, lol.

@Lulapab: I played as Sentinel on Insanity. Liara's Singularity wasn't even upgraded beyond 2 points.

Biotics worked well enough, don't get me wrong. But adept was really underpowered and there was no reason to play adept when you could play Sentinel, do what Adept does (explosions) plus so much more.

Hm, I don't know. If you focused on your biotics in ME3 and carried the lightest weapon you had the cooldowns were really low and you could kill everyone with biotic explosions. That's what I did with my Adept anyway.
