The show debuted on USA this week, although the pilot was available online a few weeks ago. Despite being just its first week on TV, it was already green-lit for a second season and has been receiving LOTS of attention from festivals such as SSW and Tribeca. The show does have illicit drug use, sexuality and is properly labeled as "gritty," but the writing and acting is being hailed as exceptionally well done.
I caught the first episode by mistake tonight and was blown away. I thought I was watching a movie that had slipped past my radar.
Anyone else caught this show?

Sorry - I did a search for "Mr. Robot" and didn't come up with any results.
I figured it would be right up your alley. I like how they actually use real terminology and realistic scenarios (so far, at least), instead of the nearly magical method hacking is often portrayed in media. I am definitely looking forward to further episodes.

It's on Stream Lord. When he starts bitching about Steve Jobs and Hunger Games...awful preachy.

But he's not wrong. Consumerist culture is a very real thing in our lives, distracting and even blinding us to the real problems. And he didn't actually wind up saying those things (just thinking them internally) - because he knew they would come off as preachy and ranty.

No, he's not. But the real world analogies were a bit jarring. I still find it interesting and I want to see just how far that techie CEO will rat him out.

I think it will be a scenario where he will try to serve two masters, the tech business exec and Christian Slater, with each one asking to inform on the other and no one (possibly not even Elliot) knowing what side he is really on.
I'm pretty sure Blackberry is going to be trying to be stinging from the depiction they got in the pilot, though.

Hmmmm... Gloria Reuben is in this. Maybe I could watch it.
I just looked her up... I can't believe she was born in 1964. She is smoking for a 51 year old.

There is a new show on USA called Mr. Robot, a tech-thriller show that deals with a paranoid network security techie who moonlights as a vigilante hacker and enters a world of intrigue and suspense.

Might check this out since it's on basic cable and that's the only new shows I can watch.

This so much.
It was actually one of the main reason why Sam Esmail the creator of Mr. Robot wanted to make this TV Show, so he could portray what hacking and the IT department is really like. Also, does this show reminds anyone of Dexter? With the whole vigilante and collecting trophy.
Oh yeah, you can also watch the show on their official website: http://www.usanetwork.com/mrrobot

It would if he was actually killing people.
Thankfully he doesn't or I would have no interest in the show.

Well, for me at least, the show has gone down into the gutter with the recent episodes.

Spoiler
Yeah, the "wipe the credit history clean" approach is directly lifted out of Fight Club, albeit with hacking computers as opposed to just blowing them up.
Still, I'm holding on. After all, they have approved a second season already, so I know it's at least got commitment.

That would be actually INSANELY a Fight Club rip off, actually.

EDIT: The more I think about the interactions between the two, it actually seems like that may be where they go.

I was under the impression that (I never saw the film, but I know the general premise) the antagonist of the film only existed as an alternate personality of the main character.
Although, I also think that posting on a phone is bad for trying to make sense. That autocorrect is a pain....
