My god.

I am loving this show already. Correct Terminology, the overarching themes of software hacking and social hacking, actual valid execution of scripts(python tho ),cinematography and the symbolism although obvious is great.

I am getting a matrix vibe, bases on the virtual and real world dynamic. I want to see more episodes that is for sure

I was under the impression that (I never saw the film, but I know the general premise) the antagonist of the film only existed as an alternate personality of the main character.

Christian Slater's character? Didn't they say that at some point?

Regardless, think about Slater's interaction with both Elliot and others in the show. He only talks wih Elliot and no one ever responds to him, even when he is screaming obscenities in public. The scene where he meets Elliot at his work, as he screams overt sexual innuendos at the redhead or yells comments to the bartender over his appletini, yet no one even acknowledges Slater's appearance, let alone reacts to it.

I honestly believe they had rebooted Fight Club with a side of Hackers.

Yes, and that is why I'm just hoping they're screwing with the viewers with that, and Slater's character is an actual person. There was some re-activity towards his character at the end of episode five though so I'm hoping all it was was screwing with the audience. 

 

The only reason I think they're intentionally screwing with the audience is because of the commercial that usually plays at the mid point of the episodes where they tease "Who is Mr. Robot?".

It's something that's going to ruin the entire series for me if it turns out to be just a different version of Fight Club.

 

At least with episode 5 they finally explained why Angela got back together with her boyfriend immediately after he revealed that he was a cheating *******. Of course, it also illustrates the other reason why you should NEVER date a coworker...

It begins to start taking up more of the story which is why I'm having a bit more of an issue with it than I did at the start.

I can't recall now if it was said. 

 

But when Elliot has that first conversation with Christian Slater on the train, the camera focuses in on a Mr. Robot name tag sewed into the shirt he is wearing.

Which is another reason why I think they are going the Tyler Durden route...

 

Elliot is obviously the main character, so it would be odd to have the series named after a supporting character unless Elliot and Mr. Robot are one and the same.

 

There have been lots of clues along the way as well, like either Elliot or Mr. Robot almost hiding silently in a back corner while the other is speaking.

So far, I think its real and not real.

 

E-Corp/Evil Corp may have been the hint.

 

People are still saying things, and specifically saying E-Corp, but it comes out all the time as Evil Corp, adding a new dimension to the concept (that being, 'E-Corp is Evil, bad, enemy'.

 

When we're with Elliot, we're seeing through his dysynched (compared to others') mind.

 

So Mr. Robot may be real, but not always real with Elliot's POV. That there's the real guy, but there's also the layer of the character that only Elliot experiences.

 

Everything, in fact, may have a real component, but Elliot experiences things his own way, whenever he's present (or at least the focus) in the scene.

 

I wouldn't be surprised if we get episodes/scenes through the clear POV of other characters who, lets just say for example, get into a car accident and get mentally impaired and they get their own vision of how things are real.

 

And ultimately, with Elliot speaking to the audience, we are also seeing the whole story through our own POV (4th wall breaking, postmodern commentary, blah blah).

 

 

 

Or I could be wrong, and it is as direct as Elliot = Mr. Robot and nothing more. But that's difficult to deal with, considering all the other characters who we get to follow, without Elliot anywhere near them.

This series is off to a strong start. The first season has been fantastic.

 

Also Remi Malek is killing it. Hopefully he gets some recognition when the awards nominations come around.
