I hope you're wrong. If you are right, they are literally throwing the previous trilogy away.
Which is a good thing, as it was an inconsistent and poorly cobbled together mess. This Andromeda pseudo-reboot is the next best thing to a complete one.

Mass Effect: Andromeda is the best place to start.
This game will be the best place to jump into the series.
I hope they try to appeal to more of the common gamer.
We're in a new galaxy. Why should the new game be tied down to wherever someone killed the Quarians or Geth four years ago?
Because if I killed the Geth I dont want them to appear, or if I choose Destroy I dont wanto no Synthesis crap in my game.

What's teh problem? Synthesis is the final evolution of organic life.

Unless you reject it, then it just remains the pipe dream of a deleted ghost.

Well, the RGB light beam at the end of ME3 only affected the Milky Way, so whatever you killed / synthesized / controlled back there would only affect that galaxy anyway and not Andromeda. If the protagonist or their ancestor left their galaxy before the conclusion of the reaper war, they will probably even never know how it ended. A save import would be completely unneccessary. And surely no one expects dialogue about whom an alliance spectre named Shepard boinked hundreds of years ago in a galaxy somewhat far away...

This game in my opinion will be a great way to get new players into the series. And a good way to bring long time fans back.
First: You should go buy ME2 which is a great game even if you didn't finish the first game.
Second: Yeah this should be mostly a fresh slate. There maybe some subtle references that you might miss but for the most part this is a total reboot.

Not in my opinion. The previous triology doesn't have to influence this game. That still doesn't mean that series has been thrown away though.

The previous trilogy can rest in pieces, as far as I'm concerned. Here's to a fresh start in Andromeda!
It's obviously going to be a great place for new players to hop in. I only hope that they consider old players in the subsequent games of the new series. Whenever I heard them squawking about how "ME3 is the best place for a new player to start," my heart sank.

Entering Mass Effect Universe without EVER fighting Insanity Difficulty Immortal Krogans? PREPOSTEROUS, SEND YOUR FLEETS IN!!!
But seriously, right now I wouldn't recommend anything but ME3 MP until Andromeda releases.
True. I imagine most of the "meaningful" stuff people really want to know could be covered in dialogue choices, like how KOTOR 2 did for the first KOTOR.
I think that ME3 has far bigger consequences for the state of the universe than what can be covered in dialogue choices, like sex of Revan.
But I'd certainly welcome a scene like this:
NPC: "(..) It was like that ever since Shepard destroyed the Reapers."
Player: What are you talking about? Shepard made us synthesize with the machines!!!
NPC: "Oh, right". (starts to turn all green-circuity, every NPC now gets cybernetic voice filter)

I tried out the original Mass Effect way back in the day, and while I did enjoy the overall setting, the gameplay of the original game was something of a turn-off. Ultimately, I did not continue my initial playthrough - didn't even get to Virmire. However, despite Mass Effect 2 looking like it fixed practically all of my gripes with the first game, I never played it. Why? Because I felt compelled to finish the first game and not have the "missing" bits that an imported save would fill. With that said, I still couldn't bring myself to actually play Mass Effect 1 because the gameplay wasn't compelling to me. Faced with this conundrum, I simply gave up and watched other peoples' playthroughs for the story.
You've probably been told before but.... you should seriously just try playing Mass Effect 2. I picked up ME2 without ever touching ME1, but I was instantly hooked anyway. By the time I was in the middle of ME3, I was so in love with the franchise that I couldn't bear the thought of reaching the trilogy's end without experiencing the beginning. Went back to ME1, and while the gameplay and funny graphics took getting used to, and the length/exploration aspects got overwhelming at times, I still managed to have tons of fun with it. There were many very rewarding moments, both in terms of gameplay and cinematic experience. And of course, this gave me an excuse to replay ME2 with an imported game and it was exhilarating to see everything in a new lens.
Perhaps you won't be like me and be compelled to play ME1, but my main point is that ME2 + ME3 are still extremely awesome without having to do anything with the first game. Andromeda doesn't come out for more than a year, and the games aren't that long. You don't have much to lose. You're really not losing a whole lot without having a ME1 import. The most important bit is the Virmire survivor, which you can educate yourself onthrough google, and the beginning of ME2 basically lets you create your world state and select your ME1 choices.
They won't throw out the events of ME1-3, they might retcon somethings. Which what game/movie/book hasn't sh*t-canned some aspects of the lore OR just totally ignore things from the previous series?
Why do people keep complaining about first Mass Effect? It was actually the best part of them all! The only thing that was improved in 2nd and 3rd game was combat (and even that became less tactical and more button mashing), everything else was watered down and simplified...
Answering the OP question - Yes, it is a good entry point. You have the same universe (sort of) but completely new story and characters.
"default save where everyone died and life sucked all around" (because that's apparently how Bioware treats default saves) backstory colouring everything.
You can at the begining of the third choose if you save everyone or not, if you save wrex and other important options, if you want more background you can buy the digital comic that let you star with the choises in Mass effect 1 and 2. In the second you can do something similar.
The little choices like helping Samesh Bhatia or others like, they aren't import with the comic.
In some ways they are kind of blowing it up and starting over without actually starting over. It will be a good place for newcomers as the events of the Shepard trilogy will probably just be treated like a history lesson but not really connected to anything happening currently.

No, it's not a good thing. They are throwing away characters, locations, lore, etc. They may as well have just made a new IP at this rate.
Who said they left before the war? This speculation has no reason, they didn't have the technology to go to another galaxy.
