Why do people keep complaining about first Mass Effect? It was actually the best part of them all! The only thing that was improved in 2nd and 3rd game was combat (and even that became less tactical and more button mashing), everything else was watered down and simplified...
I wouldn't say that the awful inventory system was watered down or simplified. It was simply removed, which suited me fine.
As for the game overall, I'm replaying ME1 right now and its faults are really starting to get to me. Combat difficulty's breaking down now that I've reached level 40, the sidequests and the main quest seem like they've come from different games altogether, the nonhuman squadmates are walking exposition dumps, and so forth. When people say that ME2 was a better game, they mean it.
