Where should the line be drawn? Should game mechanics maintain some sort of tie to lore?

Weapons went from the heat system to clips and some flimsy lore tried to explain both.

I can't really find a lore reason why Throw's cooldown would reset upon landing a biotic explosion.

The reason is ask because I'm looking at various clips from other games and it reminds me of Mass Effect 3 MP. How much would you want the game mechanics to simply raise the skill cieling above all other considerations? What would make ME3MP videos more intersting to watch?

For example; what if?

What if the Punisher gained an additional round after every critical kill?

It doesn't really make any sense, but being able to chain strip/kills would be impressive to do/watch right? Imagine going an entire round never reloading.

We already have magic missiles and some sort of bottomless grenade belt. Can we ignore trying to explain everything and go overboard with high skill mechanics?

Throw out your ideas and critiques.

eh, most players will find a way to abuse game mechanics in the first place (ie: RHA). keep that lore stuff to a minimal in MP. I just want to kill stuff and use OP weapons/gun to overcompensate for my terrible skills in the game.

Some lore needs to be thrown out the window for the sake of fun - i.e. biotics in lore are far weaker than they are in-game - but some ties are necessary, otherwise there's no point in calling it Mass Effect; it would just be some generic sci-fi shooter. As for the thermal clip thing...well...it makes sense for some of the guns not to use thermal clips, I mean, Collectors wouldn't have made the switch (and let's just ignore that they drop clips left, right, and center in ME2) so their weapons shouldn't use them.
And if they took away my favourite  Throw evolution   I would be more sad than a sad thing on the saddest day of the saddest year.

Me on Valentine's Day, on any given year? Impossible!

What is the logical reason for that evolution?  The other choice is more powerful boom-booms, and the cooldown on Throw is one of the fastest in the game.

The biotic was so impressed with their own combo that they magically found the strength to launch another power right away, such is the awesomeness of making things go boom-boom.

Lore lost by TKO in the fourth, but the fight was later declared No Contest when Game Mechanics tested positive for abusing RHA.

Lore is more important in SP than multiplayer

And as far as gameplay goes its importance is selective

Actually the idea of a thermal clip isn't a terrible one in the world of ME1 heat generation. The thing that made it stupid was BioWare never balanced things very well in ME1 and you could have guns that never overheated anyway. That and that it was implemented to just mimic ammo.

They should have been a limited item that instantly set your heat back to 0 while balancing heat generation to be much higher overall so you actually had to manage it.

Although in general, mechanics > lore.

True, but mp lore is also based off sp lore. So if they mess up single player, it affects us too.
