the worst is the host bleeds out early on a dodgy objective wave and decides to leave after the objective is done but before cleanup.

Well I don't use a mike so it obviously wasn't me.
Most of my bad experiences in PUG's happen from joining games in progress
The lobby gives a pretty good indicator as to what is needed or not

What, do you have anything against Mike Hawk? I'll have you know he's one of the hardest, proven, hardest veterans around. In fact, he's so used to being deep in the grimy international trenches, that he's never, ever taken off his helmet... ever. Don't make him come over and spit in your eye, civilian. He'll have you doing pull ups while juggling balls, he's such a hard ass.
By the way, I had a PUG with Turdminator Fork. The end. That's the story. What? Can you think of a worse PUG?
