As you know, Sera reacts differently in your first meeting depending on the Herald's race.
Qunari, dwarves and elves get a special comment, but to a human Herald she says "You're too plain, really. Just... a person".
The Iron Bull does something similar when you ask him if the fact that Krem is a woman is an issue.
He proceeds to point out your race's specific features and based on that he says you can't really talk about normal.
Does it strike you as odd that human and normal would be treated as synonyms?
Sera and Bull's idea of "normal".

Given that humans are the most common race on Thedas, yes, I would say so. However, I wouldn't take Iron Bull or Sera as normal, they're weird, even for their kind.
Sera doesn't care a crap about the elven culture and she doesn't has any hate for human, while most of Dalish and City Elves do.
Iron Bull is, on dev's words, the opposite of Sten, he lacks that cold behaviour that most of Qunari have, even Tallis, Rasaan and Gatt shown to be more like the Qunari stereotype.
