Bioware doesn't have much of a choice I'm afraid. A good portion of the fan base would either refuse to buy the game or throw a fit on the forums if they did not. The last thing Bioware needs is another controversy being stirred up by disgruntled fans.
Requesting No Romance In The Next Mass Effect

I didn't simply disagree with him. I don't feel strongly about his basic opinion. I don't care either way.
What I don't understand is how someone could complain about something optional....that you'll never see, if you practiced some constraint.
While I agree that romances only make up a small part of the game, "optional" is not a good argument.
It may be optional to the player but it's all in the game so it has to be created first.
It's like buying a car that only comes in one variant. Yeah, the cupholders with integrated cooling, the mood lighting for the backseats and the bord computer voiced by Natalie Dormer are all optional and you don't have to use them if you don't want to. But you still had to pay for it and it cost the company time, money and manpower to build it.

So what? You're overrating how much animation and the small dialogue changes cost in the big picture. Besides that, don't worry about it. It's not our problem.
It's not like EA is running some soup kitchen for bums and needs to manage every penny to give people a good experience.

Just go cry in your corner as I can assure you: romance will be in the next Mass Effect. And even, how does it disturb you? Nobody is forcing you to do a romance.
I just want them to get rid of those large, pink heart icons from Dragon Age.
They're riddiculous.

In this case, I would say to that player "do your research, and maybe buy a different car."
I wouldn't be surprised if resources expended on romance content versus the massive payoff makes the argument for it's inclusion, full stop. It's universally Bioware's niche. It's what they're known for, and in a large part, what many people appreciate about them.
All for a comparably negligible investment of zots.

I'm serious.
No. No, you're not.
You know darned well that the vast majority of the fanbase is expecting the romances. You also know darned well that leaving them out would actually result in lost sales. I can't think of anything they could add to the game that would counteract the amount of negative press that would be generated by their removal.
It would actually be worse for BioWare's bottom line than the ending of ME3 was.

So you just want me to address the "optional" comment?
I don't know what else can be said about it. Practice some self-control. Play what you like. It's not that complicated.

Of course. That's why you called him and everyone who agrees with him trolls. I know that I'm always insulting people and arguing over issues that I don't care about. That's what everyone does, right?

This is beneath you. You know a troll when you see one.
You're trolling me as we speak. ![]()
Either a person is stupid and doesn't understand optional content. Or they're ruffling feathers here and having a laugh... i.e. trolling.

I don't see things as "above" or "beneath" me. I'll leave that to others. As for your belief that I'm trolling you, well... I suspect that if you consider what I said to you to be trolling, the internet is probably not the place for you.

Dude, I said you're trolling because you made a similar thread.
It was just funnier.
But you can't be serious. No romance in a Bioware game? This kind of comment is just meant to f*ck with people. I get it. Just don't insult my intelligence and say that you're serious now. You can't actually expect that would happen.

6 posts into your BSN forum career .. keep up the good work.
FYI - this logic applies to any post not made by a developer or BSN representative, and even most of those also.

Your use of the term 'resources' is vague
Time spent by developers can be applied to different types of content
Only if the content is relevantly similar. Romance content might go to other cutscenes. It won't go to level design since the people making romances aren't level designers.
But my point was different. Features have an expected ROI. You're assuming that the ROI on shifting romance investment to other similar content (other cutscenes) will be greater than just not investing at all.
That need not be true.

I would agree with this assessment, however this wasn't the actual topic I was discussing.
And for those confused or angry posters out there, this is a real topic. This thread was made because this is how I feel about it, I recognize it's not a popular, mainstream BSN thought, but for me it's honest. This is not a troll .. trust me, I could also be funnier about it if that was my intent.

You should've taken that route.
In any case, I tried to addressed you seriously earlier, just in case. You have my 2c. I just don't think it's a big deal. I've played ME and DA without romance before. It works fine.

"What? Who, me?"

If I can keep track of it so far, a troll is someone who:
- Disagrees with you
- Posts an opinion that you don't like
- Has ever posted an opinion that you don't like in the past
- Fails to acknowledge your incorrect assessment of motives
Okay, then. And I'm back to my earlier response: if you think all of that is trolling, then the internet is probably not the place for you.

I personally know nothing about game development, however I am familiar with the business world.
Simplified, resources requiring 'man' hours are allocated to different projects, using up budget space. This principle applies to everything business related. I have no reason to believe this principle is any different for any company working on a consumer product, like a video game.
I want that budget space to be re-allocated to the action / exploration portion of this game. Are there people out there who want more romance material in these games, absolutely .. I'm just not one of them.

When I did I not like you in the past? I said your other thread was funny. If I call you a troll, it's not necessarily a bad thing.
I don't think I have strong disagreements in "opinion" either. I don't care one way about romance. I can take it or leave it. I said earlier that I'd like to see a Bioware game without it... out of curiosity at the very least.
The only thing I think you're trolling for is because these threads are self-serving and meant to screw with people. You can not realistically expect a good response from all the romance fans here. It'll never go well. And if you're telling me you are actually unaware of that, then I'm surprised.
Bad idea. I don't think I'd be delicate enough.
Now you're an internet toughguy. You should have stayed a troll. It's better.
