What's the obsession with Shepard and the Milky Way?

I understand why some people are upset, but what I dont understand is why some people are upset and surprised. We predicted this change of setting a year ago. Everyone should have seen this coming and should have come to terms with it, if it came to pass.

And I said a year ago that if they really went with this, it will be proof they broke the setting beyond repair and have no choice but to flee the mess they made.

After 6 years, it's not hard for invested players to want to see more of the setting they spent so much time in.

Sure it would, but if this whole discussion is framed around what pleases or displeases the fans, then it's kind of the same thing. People would be mad, but they would get over it. But the same is true of what we have. People are mad, but they'll probably get over this too.

Sure. People will get over having to go to another galaxy, but the mental hoops required to explain how a single person is even alive by the time we get there don't compare to the mental hoops required to make any single ME3 dlc make sense. IMO, the easier of the two choices would be just to say, "This is what happened," like BioWare does pretty much everywhere else when pretending choices actually matter.

Except for Bill Casey. I dunno where he is, but I can only assume he's cosplaying as a drell waiting to die from Kepral's Syndrome.

Fleeing from said problems they created also doesn't inspire much confidence that they've learned from their mistakes, because its going to catch up with them eventually.

Pay no attention to the Red, Green, and Blue spillage behind us!  Focus on the clean, pristine galaxy ahead!  Be dazzled by the N7 logos and new improved Mako!  This is totally Mass Effect, see?

I hope it's possible to play ME:Andromeda without even thinking about Shepard. However, I fear Shepard will always be the 'elephant in the room' in anything Mass Effect related.

Sure I expected one. Whatever I may think of prequels personally, I do not believe for a second that prequels are particularly well-liked in general, nor did I see it at all likely that BioWare would create one, despite the constraints of the final endings. Isolation or leaving the galaxy entirely, which I guess is pretty much the same thing, seemed far more likely than futzing around in the few decades prior to ME1, and it seems that turned out to be the case. What's required is not important. A prequel or a "mid"-quel aren't required either. Hell, apparently even staying in the Milky Way isn't really required.

Yes, staying in the Milky Way wasn't required. Leaving it was just the worst of their options, and they took it.

It didn't need to take place before ME1 either. It could've taken place during the current timeline (before the Reaper Invasion/War) and there would've been no issue. There's trillions of beings living out their own adventures concurrently with Shepard. And the only issue anyone ever comes up with is "but the Reapers are coming..." nitpick. Which is a problem for those individuals in particular, nothing more.

The last thing we need is to play as another galactic messiah, saving the universe from an ancient, unstoppable world-eating threat. But seeing as how they felt the need for a completely untouched setting, it seems that's exactly what we'll get.

Yes, I remember. And I agreed back then, as I do now. In fact, the reason why Andromeda was so very predictable was exactly because of what you state - in my opinion, anyways. Revan and company ranted and raved against it, thought it couldn't possibly be what they would do, but to me it was so ridiculously obvious they would go this route for exactly this reason.

They made a mess with the endings and they are fleeing it. Indeed, I would say there is probably greater than a 99% chance that the backstory will be that the characters have literally fled from the endings on an ark. Lmfao.

Still, I bet it will be a good game. I'm looking forward to it.

That's exactly what I'm hoping. I hope the new PC is more grounded than another space Jesus. I don't even think the PC even has to be the baddest of the asses for a good story line. However, I think that may be what a lot of the players want... A Shepard-like character.

I think deep down the fanbase just wanted to romance their Shepards in the nicest most platonic ways possible.

But then again I'm just saying my opinion.

I've been lurking this forum for awhile and i just have to ask: Why are so many people still so upset that Shepard and the Milky Way aren't involved in ME:A?

I mean, Shepard as a character was essentially a lifeless soldier in the first game. No emotion... Stoic military responses. Boring.

As the trilogy went on they gave Shepard more humanity... Or as much as they could while keeping the soldier aspect. Which was a HUGE improvement but that whole soldier thing still made Shepard a bit uninteresting to me and one of the least interesting characters in the series. I didn't feel any attachment to him/her as much as I did other characters in the series. Hopefully, ME:A gives us a more human protagonist without military ties. That whole angle is over done.

As far as the Milky Way... What left is there to really see at this point? Why hold on to it?

well for the past 5 years Milkyway was the main focus, there are things left to explore, I wanted to visit those planets with those mysterious unkown creatures and that great rift thing fired from an unkown weapon. All of that has been scrapped...

that's why I play Skyrim! I just imagine it being in Andromeda... problem solved

But that was obvious since the second after ME3 ended.

BioWare said that three years ago, back when Casey said there wouldn't be any games set after ME3. Remember?

It's "Mass Effect". Whether it is Mass Effect has yet to be determined.

For what little it may be worth, I'm sorry if the decision has soured your love for Mass Effect.

Thanks.

No, it will be determined one way or the other when the game comes out. People will determine differently, but it will be determined.

That will be all over the place.

We'll have to brace ourselves for all the Andramada. The only thing I feel confident about is that the BSN will never reach a consensus on anything.

Not really since people still consider it a Mass Effect, and It honestly won't stop this fandom for finding something to complaint about
