Most people I've met in DAIMP don't seem to care what gender you are - which is awesome and how it should be - since it has no bearing on what's happening in game.

If you are bringing this issue up, obviously gender matters to you?

I didn't know women playing DAMP was an issue. Met a young lady today mic'd up and she taught me something and was quite humorous in doing so. She was much more informative/casual/funny than most guys that ****** and moan about how someone plays is.

I've been waiting about 30 years for women to grab a foothold in the gaming scene...the OP is a little behind the times.

In Australia and only chatted with one girl. I think the rest are out pig shooting n boosting cars!
On a serious note, I haven't encountered sexism but have encountered a lot of abusive try hards that I mute then msg them to tell them I muted them :D
Oh and quite often all you'll here is the sound of someone smoking a bong.

What's a woman?

Seriously though, anyone who doesn't view both genders as 100% equal to on another should go back to 1879 when life was much more simple.

I have seen some game sexism, it was from a friend that I know personally, he plays a lot of CoD zombies zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz & he only usually plays with guys, one of his buddy's was doing a splitscreen with his GF, who was new to the game, my friend got p*ssed off & said that she should go back to taking selfies & doing her make-up, I looked at him like he'd just sh*t on the floor, honestly, who says things like that? We're born equal & we die equal.

Ok that's my opinion.

Why is this even being discussed? Replace 'woman' with 'black' or 'gay' and realise how ridiculous this thread is. Stay classy BSN.

I've been muting a lot of guys lately.  Too many of 'em have been whining and screaming expletives into their mic because of all the Druffalo. . . !

A very good point.

I voicechat with daimp friends almost daily but infrequently in pugs beyond the basic "thanks for ringing the gong" and "good to go" every few games or so.  Overall daimp has been great and I've been treated like any other player but every once in a while a guy I've never encountered before in a pug hears me say "there's a rogue door over here" and suddenly decides he should teach me how to play my class.  "Ok, give me a barrier now" or "put a static cage in the doorway" like the ability to utilize choke points is encoded on the Y chromosome.  It's not getting advice that bugs me (I ask for and accept tips from people I respect all the time), it's the fact that some guys feel the need to teach the woman with the keeper banner how barrier works but ignore the dude who landed in the Fade in zone 2

Compared to the awful experiences I had on WoW, DAIMP is a dream come true.  Some men might treat me a little nicer, some might patronize or claim some responsibility for any skill I have, but the majority have been a pleasure to play with.  The rotten ones can be muted and ignored easily enough :)

I only have one female player on my friends list (that I am aware of as some do not have/use mics) and she is great fun to play with. It infuriates me when males (usually kids) try and tell female players how to play and what to do.

Not going to lie, as soon as I understand a player is female, I have an unshakeable compulsion to become terribly pseudo-chivalric.

Not that I constantly assist them directly because I assume they are less skilled, but in particular I will involuntarily rank them with higher priority when two teammates are in need of help or reviving, regardless of the class they play.

I do understand that's a facette of sexism, too.

I had a great time playing with you (more than once) - but that one time when you smoked something (mushrooms?! ) was particularly funny

Wait...so...y'all are...wimmenfolk?  Hear now!  I thought you was all guys.  Really manly guys.  Now my mind is done blown.

Yes, sir. Been one all my life, as far as I can tell.

But seriously, it's not at all uncommon (especially in gaming, but on Internet in general) to assume everyone else is male until proven otherwise. I even find myself in that mindset. I remember being rather surprised at how many women I met over the mic on ME3MP because my mind defaults to "everyone gaming is a dude", too.

The two friends I have that play this game with me the most are both ladies.  I suppose their gender is a factor in the chemistry between us but mostly it's about having fun be it in the chat and joking as well as the game itself.  I certainly don't find it a factor in how we play the game (both are better than me anyway) and I don't recall ever telling anyone how to play unless I was asked a question first.

These days gurls play games just the same as guys so why should we treat them differently?

I've fooled plenty of people on these very forums into assuming I'm a dude. There's no room for my e-boobs on my profile.

While I have heard some horror stories from some fellow women in regards to online gaming, so far my experiences have been just fine. Have not had anyone asking if I was a 12-year-old boy or a girl, haven't had any "get back in the kitchen" comments, or any weird creepiness like trying to court me via the game.

I remember someone ask me if I was a 12 year old boy. I was not amused. "Well sheesh, I must be one 12 year old boy with a very mature voice."

There were the occasional surprised people "Oh, you're a woman?" or the ones who were obviously lonely and try to chat me up. "Oi, numbskull, why don't you help take out the target instead of flirting with me?"

Nothing like that with DAIMP so far. Of course I don't play it as much as I did ME3MP. I also only use my mic when I'm playing with friends now.

This thread is confusing me. I thought there were no grills on the internet.

WAS I TAUGHT WRONG!?

Two questions: Where are the grills, and is there steak?

I tell all players what to do indiscriminately, regardless of their gender. The noobs are the only ones that don't like it. The smart ones wise up quickly after beating the hardest challenges around.

Druffalo, its what's for dinner. Also, Frost Dragon Steak. Not sure where the grills are, but Rion provides the fire.

Oh you fooled me too! Though I can also high-5 you in that regard, probably not in regards to the forums but MMOs. I suppose my penis jokes aren't very lady-like.

On topic:

Since I hate using the mic and since I don't play that much DAIMP I've not really dealt with any sexism so far.

But to be honest, I've never really dealt with any sexism in my entire gaming history so far. Benefits of not wanting to use a mic I suppose.

Lol, wow. You genuinely believe that you you have the right to dictate how to play a non competative video game to people, scream and shout like a spoilt brat when they dont follow your commands and then dismiss them as noobs.

Id pay good money to see you interect with people in real social situations. I imagine you're incredibly passive and meek. People like you usually are.

Then you are a lucky person.  My wife hates me playing.  Daughter couldn't care less.
