In my current playthrough, I've just finished up "Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts". I've returned to Skyhold and noticed that I now have two quest markers in the lower courtyard that are seemingly unobtainable. When I go to the areas marked on the map, there are no NPCs to interact with for quests, nor anything else to indicate something that would start a quest.

Is this a bug? Am I just not in the right place?

Are you playing a mage? I think these are the quest markers for the two trainers you didn't train under. No idea what causes it, but as far as I know it's not harmful, just irritating.

This happens for the rogue spec trainers too. It's just annoying.

Yes, actually. Now that you mention it, I think you're right, that is where the three mage trainers used to be. I wonder if this happens for any of them or just one specific trainer? I chose Rift Mage.

Happens for all the trainers (mage, rogue and warrior) in my game (except once in a blue moon). I figure that the other trainers are so annoyed over having to travel all that way that they carve an everlasting spot on the map. Then they go out to mingle. (Or harass Cullen in Ser's case).

Happens to the warrior trainers in my game.

The quest markers appear where they used to be on the ramparts even if the actual characters are elsewhere.

Weird. I never had this problem. Could it be that if you accept all of their quests, but only do one then, that this doesn't occur. Because that's how I always do it.

I have one permanent exclamation mark there myself.  I never bothered even talking to one of the mage trainers, and I'm guessing that's what I get because of it.  I can only find the KE trainer since I chose the KE specialty, and she's nowhere near that mark (and talking to her is a waste of time).

My guess is that you only spoke to one of the trainers.

You have to accept all of their quests for the exclamation points to go away.  Kind of a jerk move, especially if you know you want to be an assassin.. why bother talking to the other trainers, right??  But no.

Happens to all trainers. Only way to get rid of them is to accept their quests even if you don't plan to commit to the specialization.

If you've already committed to a specialization and haven't accepted the others' quests, the exclamation marks will forever remain there. It's quite irritating.

To get rid of them you must accept all their tasks and complete them, but when you talk to them tell them you're not ready to commit to this yet.

I talked to the trainers and completed the requirements and the quest went away.

Once you choose a specialization. you can't  talk to the trainers to make those '!' symbols go away.  That's the point of the whole thread.  Sure, next playthrough I'll make sure to do that.  In this one, there is no remedy.

At least you'll get an reminder to talk to all the trainers next time whenever you look at the Skyhold map =)

I think if you talk to all of them and accept the training from all of them (but choose only 1 obviously) then they go away. As far as I know they only linger because the flag checking to see if the Inquisitor spoke to the trainers was triggered yet , this didn't happen on my 1st playthrough where I spoke to all of them but it happened on my third when I just went straight for the Rift Mage spec.

When I did it I took on all 3 challenges and eventually chose one. Nothing remained all 3 characters eventually walked arouned the courtyard when I completed one.

Yesterday, I verified that all you have to do is talk to all 3 trainers while the specialization quests are still active.  You only need to speak with them once.  You do not have to chase down all the materials.  You do not need to fulfill all 3 requisitions.  You only need to take care of the one specialization path you choose.  The '!' marks will be gone after you speak to them once.

(If you complete your specialization without ever speaking to the other 2 trainers, their '!' marks will stay there to annoy you forever.)
