Garrus fought off half of Omegas criminal underworld (read: half of the stations population) by himself. Had a bit of help, and all the help died, but that's no less hostile than the omega 4 suicide mission. Wasn't a mere hit and run assault either, he actually stood his ground for a really long time.

Samara, is a biotic goddess honing the art for thousands of years.

Jack is just a natural born biotic prodigy honed by a rough a childhood raised by cerberus.

Liara is basically the Mass Effect equivalent of the NSA.

Joker is the best frigate pilot in the alliance

EDI is a self aware AI, able to do everything perfectly, and by the end of Mass Effect 3 even has some ability to think creatively

My take? Illusive man didn't need shepard at all.

NSA?
Even if Shepard was Not on the same level of those, TIM won't put an alien in charge, Jack would tell him to go to hell and Joker's condition make him Not suited to leading a team.
Besides, Shepard is the one Who stopped Saren, the Sovereign and the Reaper invasion. He wasn't alone, but he was in charge.
I don't know if that justifies spending Billions on him, but trying to make sense to Lazarus is something I gave up a long time ago.

Shepard was the savior of the galaxy. That's what makes The Shepard so special.

Shepard can be very unfriendly. Well, to those that Bioware didn't force To be Shepard's buddies anyway.

Garrus is a good leader but I doubt he would work for TIM on his own and nobody in Cerberus is taking orders from a Alien.

Samara isn't a leader. Once again she's an alien

Jack working for TIM on her own is laughable, heck her working for him with Shepard is still laughable.

Liara was too busy playing Shadow Broker and oogling Shep's dead body armor, and she's an alien

Joker only flies

EDI was just a part of the ship

So...who was gonna lead these people or get them to join?

Besides, Shepard is the PC, that's what makes him special unless you want to play canon fodder #5.

Besides, even if ME2 gave us a different PC. I doubt Garrus, Liara, Joker, Tali, and Dr. Chakwas would join. I would probably throw Legion in as well considering that he's familiar with Shepard and not some random PC who works for Cerberus.

Shep was special because he/she could yell at people in either blue or red to make them do pretty much anything you wanted.

Beyond the player's history with the character and the way the different backgrounds impacted general RPing, very little.

I actually forgot the background. Shepards started anyway with some accomplishments that display his/her skills.

Well, the in lore explanation is that TIM never had a chance of convincing most of those people to help him without Shepard convincing them, which is true. The fact that Shepard can convince them, however, is just a result of the magnetic personality that the narrative needs Shepard to have for the story to move forward in the first place.

Shepard is the protagonist of the serie, it gives him the power of the protagonist, the most powerful power a character can have.

Not sure why this is in Andromeda's discussion forums, but the answer is literally within the first thirty seconds of both games.

Shepard is basically Space Jesus who is the messiah of our cycle.

Everyone follows and puts their faith in him. He came back from the death (it just took him slightly longer than 3 days and about 40 billion credits).

He can talk-jutsu anyone into submission (as long as you're a pure-paragon goody-two-shoes with enough paragon points) and he can solve all problems with blind idealism with no negative repercussions whatsoever (again, if you're playing as a pure paragon angel that is).

Like Jesus, Shepard has 12 disciples (in ME2) and like Jesus, Shepard is betrayed by one of his disciples (the Virmire survivor, who is the Judas of this story).

I fully believe Shepard is the second coming of Jesus, or at least paragon Shepard is.

Edit: Hell, Shepard is even called "the Shepherd" at the end of the series, just like Jesus.

Paragon Shepard turned a ruthless lifelong criminal like Helena Blake into a social worker after she had manipulated him into killing her rivals to gain power. That's some serious messianic power.

Not before punching some serious messianic holes in all her business associates and underlings.

What's this social worker business you speak of? My Helena Blake became Aria's underling, as the universe intended.

I actually like a pure paragon Shep playthrough for the absurdity.

I do wish some of the decisions had freaking blown in his face though. Just for damn consistency.

It's crap like this that really annoys me you do realise that Shepherd could be female to but no male shepherds obviously superior because Jesus was a man second coming my ass.

Shepard is not very special at all. In half the cutscenes he looks awkward and moves like a bumbling idiot, and half his lines sound like the lines of a bumbling idiot.
