I'm sorry my gifs made you feel so defensive. They are harmless, I promise. It is not my intention to ridicule you. I just found it funny how the Acolyte could have such a negative impact on various aspects of the game.

I think the problem is that the thread-title is misleading.

For example: I personally made the mistake to tell my honest opinion on this gun (like we are discussing many guns here)
and told my reasons why I rarely use it anymore,
whereas I neither HATE it, nor do I want to forbid people to use it, nor make sure it won't be included in ME:A.

If I hated it, I wouldn't have used it hundreds of hours.


I would just have welcomed if Bioware had balanced it better and offered alternatives so that
you don't always want to equip the Acolyte + Anti-Armor-Sidearm such as the Hurricane on all of your casters.

Probably it had to happen that some people feel offended then.

if you run with a charged acolyte, "Pull" is a great power.

Without the acolyte, I specced out of "pull" completely on my Justicar.


I don't like it that one gun gets to decide about such things.

And if you then even realize you don't like how the Acolyte plays and get bored by it - you have a problem.

The Acolyte's existence is at least partly responsible for the fact that I still play the game after 3 years. It expanded the game and made it better. Without it, I think the game would be weaker, and I probably would play less.

I know that's blaspheme to some people, and I don't care. The devs had plenty of telemetric data that we don't. They could see how much the Acolyte was being used, and its role in the game at large. PuGs rarely use it, especially when compared to Harrier or Reegar (which are far more problematic weapons to the "bigger picture" than the Acolyte ever was.)

The idea that Biotics need to have bigger disadvantages than other playstyles to make sure they can't perform as well seems disingenuous to me. But regardless, I think the Acolyte, while far from perfect, is anything but some game-changing mistake the devs made. There are big problems with the game, but no one is ever going to convince me the Acolyte is anything more than an incredibly minor one.

But then, I also don't care what other people think of what I use, so this is about as much energy as I'm going to spend on an argument that I see as largely pointless.

I think the niche it fills is important--I just think it does its job too effectively in the absence of downside. Despite the hyperbolic language in the original post, the substantive discussion is really just about balance. Perhaps the opening post made it inevitable that pointing out its large (and unique) impact on the game made the ad hominem stuff inevitable.

Then again, this is BSN. it was probably inevitable from go.

This is the sort of answer I've been expecting to receive, and all I've been getting is a bunch of nonsense about having less respect for someone when they happen to outscore someone using an Acolyte.

2) let's say if someone "plays very well", speed-headshotting all the things with an accurate gun, and dodges all attacks because he cannot stagger everything, it leaves me awestruck.
if someone gets the same result with a flamer /reegar / acolyte etc.
it doesn't give me goosebumps.

so what? this is just my opinion. my god - is this sooo bad?


btw, it is not even the point of what I was trying to say. I wanted to discuss about the gun and don't always hear your "looooooooooooooooool" provocations.

why is it a crime not to like imbalanced things in this game we spend a lot of time with ?...
completely changing the use of powers and playstyles.
