Not sure how Vanquish did things, but the trailer does show Mr. N7 using a jetpack to get around and to melee attack at the end.

So we'll have that most likely.

I don't think anything made me feel as awesome as playing Vanquish did. Perfect example that gameplay is always king.

Now imagine combining that with Vanguard charge lol.

I prefer Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3 style of gameplay.

I don't know, it was pretty clunky and not very fluid IMO.

Vanquish seems to be the superior gameplay example in my book.

You you prefer gameplay that is worse than Gears of War without even the most basic TPS mechanics such as jumping from cover to cover and blind-fire?

Yeah...no.

ME3 actually had one of the best TPS gameplay: the mechanics finally became good and the power and weapon variety made it very meaty, ME2 was  clunky but light-years ahead of ME1.

Vanquish has the best mechanics, but lacked on the variety front compared to ME3.

"best TPS gameplay".

Infinite pause TPS with RPG focus.

Let's not kid ourselves here.

I had hoped Bioware had played Dragon's Dogma before working on Inquisition. Best combat I have seen in a fantasy RPG game. And well, in inquisition you can just let the AI fight for you.

Mass Effects combat has been pretty good throughout the series.

I really enjoyed vanquish, sliding around all over the place like a loony, (nostalgic smile), good times.

I'm a card carrying Bioware fanboy but even I don't think Bioware could come close to the slickness that was Vanquish, I mean seriosly can you see the andromeda protag killing bad guys while constantly smoking a ****** and looking cool? I don't think sam stops smoking for that entire game

If Cerberus can have jetboots, why not Shepard Lite?

Mass Effect wasn't the smoothest TPS experience, but then again it wasn't trying to be. Vanquish is pure adrenaline action plain and simple, it doesn't have the same kind of companion, class and power system that Mass Effect had. The majority of fire fights took place in small battle arenas that didn't serve the idea of rocketing across the ground obliterating everything. It was much more tactical and slow in its approach. Compare ME3's basic TPS mechanics and it blows any other TPS straight out of the water. Then you add in the class system and powers and no pure TPS has ever gotten anywhere close to even licking the dirt of Mass Effect 2 and 3's boots.

Now that the focus is on exploration I fully expect the level design to be completely non-linear and completely open for the majority of it. Now is the time for Mass Effect to truly add smooth, slick and very mobile combat. You balance that in with ME's already stellar combat system and we could have a real gem of gameplay on our hands.

Honestly, if Vanquish's gunplay met Metal Gear Rising's swordplay, then downed a bottle of Space Magic Juice and did the nasty in the Apple Tech Support building. . .also some game with good driving mechanics was in there for a threesome. . .also ME:MP for a foursome. . .really, it's just an orgy of great game concepts colliding. . .I'm side-tracked now.

That baby'd be the best game ever.

So do I I prefer it that way as it gives the player a chance to think and react as I prefer a more mental challenge than a sheer speed and full on action one. Personally I find Bioware's style of games just perfect for me and I hope that continues with Andromeda I suspect it will.

Maybe i'm not reading this right but pretty sure ME3 had jumping from cover to cover.

As for Vanquish, yes that game smashed all other third person shooters last gen, made Gears and Uncharted look like jokes.  B)

How exactly what I said means I am not 'open to change'? I played Mass Effect and I played Vanquish and although I can appreciate both takes on TPS, I prefer Mass Effect to keep its more measured and grounded gameplay.

Vinquish was a great game gameplay wise, but I think that style is just too over-the-top for Mass effect.

I usually like games that have slick mechanics and acrobatic movements and lots of motion blur, but to me Vanquish was too much and I just couldn't get into it. I actually thought the shooting mechanics lacked oomph.

...more importantly, I think ME3 had a nice sweet spot in terms of weight and oomph and it just needs some more polishing and perhaps a little bit more fluidity (and better mocap plz) and it's fine. I don't need the knee-sliding in ME:A lol.
