The preliminary draft of this thread (my first) addressed just the collector weapon mastery challenges. While doing some last-minute scouring for answers to this assuredly useless question I realized something more substantial. I'll lead with my question.

1. Collector sniper and SMG are the only Alien-challenge weapons that require just 140,000 points, matching requirements for respective weapon masteries.

2. The points required for the collector AR challenges seem to be normal and the inflation of PPR mastery points has been explained.

I read in an old thread that the PPR points required are higher than other weapons' because it was a DLC weapon that did not have an alien challenge so the weapon challenge became its proxy. What I don't understand is why the sniper and SMG challenges are duplicated. Is there an established reason for this anomaly? Why weren't they introduced at 200k in Retaliation mastery? When they were added to another category later why not alter the points required in the spirit of the PPR scenario? Why is the assault rifle different? I realize this is trivial but now I'm stuck and need an answer so I can move on with my day. Anything helps. Even nothing. Then I'll at least know there is no good answer.

My realization concerns the challenge system. After almost 1200 hours, my tireless pursuit of CPs has helped the game stay fresh for me by diversifying my selection of weapons and characters. I otherwise never would have discovered my affection for things like mesmerizing skeptical pugs with my maniacal hipster sellsword, the volus mercenary. Does anyone besides neophytes care about challenge points anymore? I suppose a number of you rotate kits irrespective of challenge points but I really like this system and feel compelled to champion it.

The Collector Sniper rifle is so bad even the Collectors won't issue it to their troops. Screw the Collector Assault Rifle  even on a TGI it takes forever to kill anything. I do like the CSMG. That will be all for now.

When learning weapons & characters I took the time to play them more in order to get into a comfort zone with each. The ones that didn't work, didn't get used, and don't unless the Randomizer says so. Now having just over 2000 hrs in, I play what I feel like at the moment and couldn't care less about CP or especially what a pug thinks.

Damn that.

Having double challenges for one weapon is a good thing because more XP from one stone.

As to why? Most likely laziness or the fact that extra programming is precious time better spent elsewhere sometimes (as in this case where I agree).

Off-topic; why do folks set their accounts to private? Folks that anti-social? Was trying to send limbs a reply to the post I caught in time before it got removed before my eyes. Plus that subject was best handled via PMs anyway.

How do you think Praetorian buttlaz0rs work? Dual-wielded CSRs is how.

I giggled. CSR is a beast once you master it. On some kits it's almost beyond broken. Hello, Huntress...

Give the QME a CAR and watch the carnage unfold. Granted, there are better ARs for most kits, but when you find something like this setup it's kind of amazing after writing it off for such a long time.

CSR is easily one of the best snipers in the game.

Wow, I'm surprised. I find the Collector Sniper Rifle to be one of the most powerful weapons at my disposal.

It probably makes a difference that the hipfire penalty is smaller than most SRs, doing 75% normal damage. Over the course of a game when using console controllers, the ability to effectively hipfire makes up a lot of damage because of being able to avoid auto-aim. I find it's very easy to get headshots with it as a beam weapon, and that seems to be where some of its potential lies.

The only thing I don't like about it is that it has a maximum range, but I rarely have to deal with that problem.

My problem with the collector sniper rifle is it's range limit as a "sniper" rifle and of course ammo count...runs out so fast..I know to fire it in bursts but its just so "meh"  I know it melts things fast ,Just after messing with it for awhile I decided to give up on it. Thats my opinion on the gun.

Slap Incindiary Ammo on it to greatly increase it's ammo since you greatly increase it's dps due to super high fire rate glitching the fire ammo stacks through the roof a la Reeger.

And when aiming for headshots on mooks. I don't tap fire it. One quick full headshot burst melts mooks good. If they still live, Incindiary ammo is there to save the day.

For bosses, yes, always burst fire it.

So yeah. CRS is crazy good and OP. But one of the few really OP weapons I can still say I love.

I love the visceral satisfaction of using the CSR to mow down mooks and I find it works well to proc ammo. Particularly enjoyable for my quick tech explosion builds such as the vorcha soldier, BF3 soldier and various incinerate users.

My ego doesn't normally coast on the adoration of pugs but I like to think I'm helping them discover that there is more to me3 than TGIs and geth troopers. Nothing wrong with those, but I've come across at least five or six people who ostensibly use the acolyte geth trooper exclusively. And I wasn't initially as adventurous as you with builds but challenges have really encouraged experimentation for me. I still stumble onto awesome new ways to play old characters regularly. I know I stand to gain nothing from pursuing CPs at this point but I guess I just never shook the habit.
