Please for the love of god leave the last three games behind. I want a total reboot here.

Andromeda is not a reboot ... the starchild's prophecies lingering taint still makes storytelling difficult.

If they suppose the starchilds prophecies are true they need some kind of space magic to explain why AI hasn't taken over in Andremoda ... if the prophecies turn out to be fake it retroactively turns the ME3 ending into a bad SAW like horror movie, where some insane kid makes the protagonist pull some levers with horrific results.

We need a reboot, Andromeda isn't it.

Generally speaking I'm not a fan of cosmic retcons. They're always sloppy.

I wouldn't necessarily be shocked, and I wouldn't be offended. I'd just shake my head and walk away.

It may be that MEA takes place before the space magic and catalyst tripe. Otherwise what we will end up with is a variation of .. "massive handwave later we've left the Milky Way..." and that is that, no need to speak of that Galaxy again,,NO...NO..NO.." puts fingers in ears..."I can't hear you..LA..LA..LA..LAAAAA....!"

If this isn't the case then starchild will be hanging around the neck of the next ME games like an Albatross...

Somehow the Andromeda storyline folded back into the end of the original trilogy? Like say you return to the Milky Way with advanced tech via temporal displacement or something outlandish like this.

If they aren't already offended by the fact that they haven't owned up to their mistakes and rectified it, but instead dropped all the iconic ME locales and pretended like the way the left things was fine?

I'm sure people can fit room for a few more things to be "offended" by.

Word.

The Earth is a flat disc carried on the backs of four elephants which are standing on the shell of a massive turtle that is moving through space.

1680x1050_discworld-terry-pratchett-wall

The cube/square issue though means those elephants would all become pancakes when their legs break

unless Mass Effect is real and the turtle is using it to change the mass of the earth... and the elephants!

Not really (anything would be better than the crappy ending (even with extended crap DLC - because IMHO all it does is prolong the already crappy ending (yes, it fills some plotholes, but it still is unsatisfying!))

greetings LAX

No thanks to time travel and it would open another can of worms. Why go back to the ending? travel back to the Mily Way in your time and grab Shepard´s mission logs. They are probably part of a history database or so. After that you could go back to the beginning of ME 1 when Saren found the Souvereign and tell him his idea wouldn´t work or if your tech is advanced enough shoot the Souvereign when it´s on the ground or hit it with several batteries of Thanix missiles when it tries to land. The shields are weak when a capital Reaper is on the ground.

Or go back once, grab the councilors and lots of evidence during the time of the reaper war, then go back to the first council meeting and let them tell their former selves that Shep is right, the Reapers are coming. Purge or contain the starkid in a bottle, it can´t do much anyways without his cuttlefish buddies. Evacuate the Bahak system, accelerate the asteroid to really high speed in a close orbit to the relay, equip it with enough shielding that it can survive shots from the surprised fleet and as soon as the Reapers show up, throw it into the relay. The resulting explosion should deal with the threat. Mop up the rest with the whole galactic fleet if some of the cuttlefish survived. Trap the system with some kind of mines around the relay and install some very mean guns on asteroids or planetary bodies close to it. Tow them there if you need to. You probably have to do something about Cerberus, the Collectors and the batarian scientists so that no one could betray your trap. But well you have the location of Cronos station and you know where to find a Reaper FFS. This time send in drones.

Even if you can go back only once (because of reasons) there are probably more interesting points of starting your manipulation than at the very end. You know the plans of the enemy before the enemy. You can manipulate so much in your favor.

In the end it would leave the question why did you show up when the Reapers already dominated the galaxy.

Time travel is always messy, best we avoid dealing with it at all.

Not if I'm in it with Miranda.

Offended isn't the right word but it would defeat the purpose of a soft reboot.

The timing doesn't even matter ... the writers are still stuck with the choice of making the starchild right (in which case Anromeda needs it's own anti-AI space magic to be in place) or making him wrong (turning the ME3 ending into a bad horror movie with no deeper meaning even for people who want to look for it).

His taint will affect the story telling.

Well that leaves the possibility of a devastating war, long ago, between synthetics and organics, leaving a remnant (synthetic) and a few organic races (Khet, etc) still clinging to survival in Andromeda. Proving the Catalyst's prediction right. Into this devastation the Milkway Ark Posse ride in, having left before the Reaper invasion (well at least before the crucible energy is fired, so the ending ramifications are unknown to the travelers) to take whats left from the ruins and create a new home for humanity (and Asarinity,Kroganity etc) in Andromeda...

Mmmm on further reflection BW might start MEA a long time after ME3. Then the ending states become irelevant as everything merges into a tech singularity anyway, and the Reapers are all gone..because of some vague reason the details of which have been lost in time. Then the bright and shiny new galactic civilisation created after ME3, having run out places to poke their noses into in the milkyway, need more room or whatever so travel to Andromeda...

Or MEA starts, like before sometime after the events of ME3 but not the far future. The player then imputs their prefered conclusions to the various plot points and the ending state of ME3 . This determines vague references throughout the game about the state of the Milkyway when they left it...

Or I am now getting a headache just thinking about the possibilities.. But my gut is telling me that BW will want to make sure that the Catalyst is proven right thoughout the Universe.. Now I think I'll load up ME3 again just to shoot him in the face some more times...
