Will there be any new novels for Mass Effect? I know they haven't fixed Deception yet. Admittedly the comics are ok at getting me my ME story fix.

It would be somewhat surprising if there were no tie-in novels for this game. At the very least, expect something cross-media. The months leading up to Andromeda's launch will be a ripe time for publishing partners to fire up the initiative and release something that'll probably sell OK as a result of the new game's buzz status among the hardcore fandom.

With so much of the original games staff gone, I am having doubts about them fixing Deception.

Oh, doubt it entirely. That statement is one in which the persons involved in saying it have no doubt regretted having ever done so. For one reason or another it never came to pass. It's been over three years; the book's not getting remade. Best to forget about it altogether.

If this helps at all, I asked Mac Walters...
Me: with the recent reveal of MEAndromeda, can we expect a comic or novel to set up the new story?
We're definitely working on all those plans... and more. Once we know exactly what's possible, we'll let you know.
I don't know about you, but his response made my day! ![]()

I would be fine with it if they introduced the new scenario by novel. It would be one way to give the fans a thorough explanation for the background of how we wind up in Andromeda while the more casual players can just enjoy the new game with the new setting and not too much in-game time needs to be spent on tying the new scenario to the old one.
As for Deception, my preference is to forget it ever existed in the first pace..

People still ask me for my thoughts on Deception never getting remade when they realize I made that one thread that ultimately wound up hosting the community's exhaustive list of problems with the book. And I always reply, "let's just forget it." ![]()
Anyway, I definitely foresee the bulk of the real details behind the switch to Andromeda -- ie some kind of crazy new optimistic space program or a fleet escaping the Reaper War or however the devs have chosen to play this out -- being located in a pre-launch novelization.

I'm not fully caught up with which members of the original writing team is still with Mass Effect, but are any of them confident enough in their skills to go forth and write a novel? Walters can barely keep his story straight with 20 page comics, and Deception out to be outsourced, and ended up failing because of that.
If none of them can write a novel, they shouldn't bother with a novel.

I have not read anything beyond a few of Walters' Foundation comics and they sucked big time because they were just retellings of stories we were told about but never saw in the trilogy but then Cerberus got thrown in everywhere to force some kind of canon story arc for Maya Brooks from Citadel DLC throughout the whole trilogy, and it just felt like Mac was bastardizing the otherwise great stories from ME1.
William C. Dietz can't write one god-damn novel without self-projecting to his latest resturaunt trip, and as far as I know, Drew Karpyshyn's novels weren't exactly masterpieces either.
Whatever it is, there can be new novels or comics as Bioware pleases, but I hope they keep them seperated from the games so we don't end up with a Halo 4 story in our Mass Effect where it requires you to know stuff from the novels to understand the basic plot.

I agree. I will say though that I doubt it will be a halo 4 situation. A lot of people hated Halo 4, but I think the writer did a great job. See, Halo started as a mindless FPS, but then it started to develop a deep extended lore that honestly surpasses Mass Effect's in complexity. So, 343 was left with a conundrum - create a game that both appeals to fans of mindless FPS games, AND also those that are fans of the lore. And they did a fantastic job, although it was awkward at times (like the Librarian exposition).
It seems like they are doing much better with Halo 5: Guardians, given that the purpose of the Reclaimer trilogy is to finish the story arc that started with the Forerunner trilogy.

Deception is never getting a rewrite.
That was promised initially after the backlash, but it seems like that plan was later abandoned...probably after they realized it wouldn't be financially feasible. Its not like Mass Effect books are best sellers to begin with, and how many people were going to actually go out and buy a Deception rewrite?
At this point Bioware mostly seems to pretend it doesn't exist, so along with the (dropped) promise of a rewrite, I think that renders Deception's status as officially non-canon.

Oh, uhh, I never saw Halo as a mindless FPS though. I thought 1 through 3 had great writing as well, but thematically they didn't go too deep, but the characters and comedic reliefs were pretty great and something that Halo 4 exceedingly failed to accomplish. H4's themes and central character arc for Chief and Cortana was where the potential was, and most of it was met, but in humor, script, characters, plot, those things all fell flat on their faces IMO, but the potential was there because the heart of the story was pretty good.

Discounting multiplayer the first Halo is still the best in the series - seems to be the general consensus amongst fans, critics and nonfans alike. All the sequels were essentially re-treads which succeeded to varying degrees in recapturing the magic of the original. There's so much exposition and foreshadowing about the forerunners woven tightly into the plot, there's this cool mysticism to the lore, locations, the story telling is cameron-esque with excellent pacing, intrigue, tension, misdirection, cool villain, a cast of memorable characters and the best game soundtrack ever. Level design and gameplay still stands up after 15 years. The Arbiter is the only memorable character added to the series after H1.
Halo: Combat Evolved is in so many ways to video games what Aliens was for summer blockbuster movies it's quite fittingly tragic.

Seeing as I expect the new game to start long after arrival in Andromeda, I expect a novel or comic depicting the events leading up to the journey and possibly the journey itself. It's possible the N7 from the trailer could be the star.
I would read that if that's the case
