After several botched attempts of getting started with this game, I finally got past the beginning and had a group and we headed out and are currently in the Hinterlands. However, now that I check out the Journal, I can see stuff going back to Inquistors Path, Fallow Mire, Haven, etc, and when I visit there, it's like there are quests there that I should have completed already?  When I go there, I'm alone, and I'm pointed to a war room where I'm supposed to select options that make no sense or have no info?

 Do I have to start this bugger all over again and do the quests in order?  I feel like I've gone back in time and have no sense of where I am.

I am not quite sure what exactly is the problem.

 

You will always be alone in Haven. As to the other areas, they have to be unlocked first through War Table missions (these will cost power). The Inquisitor's Path tab in your quest log will show main quests, you will need to go from Hinterlands to Val Royeaux.
