How do you play reaver on perilous?

I actually started this discussion before the patch, but it's trailed on after. I think akots1 is right though, I have noticed the same thing (as far as chain blocking DR). I have seen it with the greatsword just as much though; not just the maul. The fix for me is to just stop attacking for a couple seconds. Rolls don't fix it and once I have DR I've never used Mighty. Either way I think the cd on the chain block is more associated with the mob than the skills used to attack it. If you trigger a block you gotta give it a chance to stop blocking.

I bet dw rogues would see it too, they just don't stand they're ground as long.

Interesting you mention that. I've been focusing on the Assassin as of late (need to get my cunning up) and I haven't seen too much of a problem. Do they block? Yes. As bad as they do the reaver? No, nowhere near it.

Obviously the shield toting guys are the worst, but as soon as you get behind them, which is far easier to do with an assassin, they fall very quickly. Combat roll has nothing on flank attack w/ stealth upgrade in this particular instance. My assassin can face tank the basic melee soldiers with basic attacks on perilous and win, yet the reaver has to go out of her way to get it done. This makes no sense at all, and is very frustrating when playing as a reaver. There's workarounds like war horn, sure, but it's just another unnecessary step from a beast of a warrior.

As a disclaimer, I would not recommend face tanking the shield guys with an assassin. Just don't.  :P

My promotions suck and I only have a single 2% HoK ring but I can still play Reaver on Perilous.

Step 1: Build smart.  War Horn+, Dragon Rage+, and Rampage are must-haves.  Devour(no upgrade) is great for spot-healing but dodge is exceptional at countering knockdown and other CC.

Step 2: Get a Dragon weapon. Sword is good, Maul is better.

Step 3: UPGRADE YOUR ARMOR.  Most important part by a long shot.

Step 4: Go ham.  Spam Dragon Rage like your life depends on it.  War horn is for dealing a billion damage to guard on tough enemies (dragons, pride demons, Red Templar Commander), CC (great on shield enemies) and getting those juicy auto-crits.  Jumping into a group of enemies, popping Rampage and immediately casting War-Horn will set you up beautifully to start mowing through them with all those critical hits.

Step 5: Beware of archers. Anything that tries to go toe-to-toe with you in melee should lose pretty fast as long as Rampage is off cooldown (and even with minimal promotions the cooldown is still pretty short) but get 4 or 5 archers stacked up and you can get shot down Boromir-style.  Pull ranged enemies around corners to bunch them up for War Horn and prevent them from whittling you down as you approach.

Aaannndd yeah that's pretty much it.  If you have a tank (Lego/Katari/Arcane Warrior) try to let them grab aggro first, otherwise be smart and keep an eye on your health bar.  If it starts going too low don't hesitate to use Rampage + basic attacks to heal yourself (remember to sprint-cancel your attacks).  If you have enough Heal on Kill you might be able to ignore basic attacks altogether but I'm unable to do that.  Also I recommended using a lightning rune because with Disable your crits weaken enemies, and weaken + shocked = sleep... which you auto-crit on thanks to Deathblow.  Fun times.
