Just from browsing this forum it appears that romance content is the most popular aspect of a BW game. Would they be better off just ditching combat, class builds, renegade/paragon and go with a dating sim/interactive movie?
ME:A: Telltale games style dating sim? Interactive movie?

Carefully said... This Forum might not exactly be representative of what the People want of the Game.

It could be a good idea to separate the romance stuff from the actual game and into a dating sim.
It will make the game more focused, less scattered resources on multiple sideshows that many people never even see.
The generic Bioware formula became rather stale anyway, maybe a renewed focus is what we need.

You seem to forget that all the unanimously agreed on GOOD BioWare Games (i.e. ME1, DA:O, KotoR, Jade Empire, Neverwinter Nights etc.) all were pretty close to the Formula? I think, they should actually return to that Formula, it seems to have worked.

Pay no attention to those romance-obsessed malcontents, the most important feature is the multiplayer.
Multiplayer dating sim! With all those classes and races! Until last wave!

I played all of them, I still have KOTOR 1 & 2 installed on my computer.
But where romance was an non-intrusive side-dish in KOTOR, something that you could miss if you blinked at the wrong time (well, almost),
it became a progressively larger and larger monster with each game.
Bioware should simply focus most of their attention on telling a good story, distractions can come after.
Otherwise you have something like DA:I, with a large number of specifically animated romances but a short main story that almost feels like an afterthought.

The stretch of KoTOR, Jade Empire, Mass Effect, and DA:O wore that formula pretty thin.
BioWare's greatest game didn't follow it that closely and their best reviewed modern game, Mass Effect 2, was also warts and all more of its own thing than ME1 was.

Not what I want for ME:A (and obviously not what we're getting) but I'd like some "spin-offs" of ME....I'd LOOOOOOOVE an X-Com:Enemy Unknown style ME game

Why would a feature need to be displaced to a different game just because it's popular? Speaking just for myself here, part of why Bioware's romances are so great is because they add an extra 'human appeal' to your character and story. Something more personal to fight for (like Mordin's conversation in ME2 about his favourite nephew) and some personality outside of the main mission.
As nice as it is to think about Shep having a dozen close friends, I like there to be one or two people who the protag is closest to. It doesn't have to be romance for me. In DA2, Hawke's surviving sibling was number one, because they had a bond with Hawke that really brought something emotional to the game. Romance is just the easiest way to do that, and often involves more screentime for that character, plus the chance to get to know them much better (see Jack).

Romances are so good in ME and DA series because they are part of the game. I really don't want that they are taken away. I just don't see it working well. What kind of game that would be? Romance simulator with quick time events? Sounds bad. I don't like quick time events.

Personally, I love the mix of it. Story, combat, romance. You get everything if you want it, but you don't need to romance anyone if you don't like it. I don't really see what the problem is. As pointed out by BraveVesperia, I think it's fun and really nice that you can have someone special in the protagonists' life if you want to and it definitely helps to get to know characters better.

The main difference between romance and other "human factor" triggers, is that with romance a lot of resources are spent horizontally, and many people will only ever bother to just play through one romance, maybe two. (a reality of us being sexual creatures with particular preferences, and the fact that many people use the PC as an extension of themselves)
Take for example Deus EX: Human Revolution. It was a great game, with quite a few "human factor" triggers - that didn't have any real romance.
Instead resources were invested in creating a very impressive world, responsive gameplay, and a story full of suspense and intrigue.

People just talk about things that are intrested to talk about. There is not much intresting things to talk about combat-wise. I like to shoot things with shotgun and use biotics. Oh, I'm more into sniper rifles myself. Romance content gives much more things to talk about and especially things to talk about where people disagree strongly and discussion gets heated what results into hundreds of pages.. well it'd if mods didn't end up locking threads in the end ![]()

Another reason to lock all this insanity away in a sim game.

NWN is not even close to being a good game. It's the worst BioWare game to date, including DA2.

They should definitely ditch Paragon/Renegade thing.
As to romances, I just want them to abandon the formula (talk some with the character - flirt - flirt some more - do personal mission - have sex - get achievement - never speak about that ever again). I want them to write believable romances, with preferably less options having more content. And maybe integrate it more into the story, but that will probably not happen.

We don't need BioWare for that. We can do it ourselves.
