It's very random, if you are unlucky it will take a long time to max it out.

Playing as much platinum as possible is the first advice - the more credits spent in the store the higher your chances at URs. Another part of that logic is that the 99k packs give you the lvl IV consumables which will support you in completing platinum matches quicker.

I was lucky I believe, only took me 670 hours or so to max it out.

if it weren't so bad the majority of players wouldn't have quit before 30 hours. Referencing a few people on the forums is ridiculous compared to the many others who never came here because they got frustrated and quit. All of my friends who stopped playing did so because of the store. I don't care how you spin it, far more people quit because of the store than stuck around for it.

Sounds like they weren't playing for fun or focusing on getting better.

Or even if they enjoy RPGs? As Mass Effect is an RPG. And the store is one major element that makes MP like an RPG (the leveling up part). Myself, I'm an RPG fan too. Never play fps/3rd person shooter (only other shooter action I play is old school Arcade 2D scrolling shooters). And when I play RPGs, I don't grind. It's mindless. Mindless leads to boredom & then quiting. I've known ME3mp players that were too focused on grinding (ie. stuff like max cheese & camping), and none of them are still around or finished maxing their manifest. Foreseen it, tried to warn them. But they wouldn't listen. You have to figure out how to enjoy playing the game. And the store just being there to reward you for your time put into it. This is good.

So players that can't figure this out. I don't want them playing anyway. Why? So that when they finally max manifest they can retire anyway? Meanwhile they were ruining the game with camping, max cheese kits/weapons and rocket glicthing? No thanks. I want less of these losers playing. Thank you.

I have a friend who just started with ME MP
and I directly took him to gold.
this was a mistake because he exclusively bought premium packs and had every important UR at least once after 100 hours.

the difference between I and X is not that big.

so he lost a lot of fun and respect (for the difficulty) too early.

Bioware should prevent that in Andromeda.

Though I am aware that this problem is way bigger in DAI, of course,
and that there is many rare weapons that outclass many UR 's.

How about playing what you like/enjoy and encourages further replay?

The question was how to max URs as fast as possible, that's done by playing as much platinum as possible afaik.

Well said. You're another great addition to this forum. So I'm going to have to do this to you;

Alright. You've got a point. It's just not how this game should be played or encouraged.

In the single player I get to choose what weapons I get and level up. Stupid to change the system for multiplayer. 800 hours is a ton of time to invest into a game to get everything. If players had some control over it then they may have more motivation to stay. I have friends who played 300 hours and never got the harrier, or typhoon, or ppr, or talon, or a bunch of other things that are fun. Have we forgotten playing games is about fun? They played for 300 hours and never got to try some setups that others may have gotten after their first pack, which is insane. Also, if I want to play a shotgun character but I'm out of the good amps, I just have to play something else instead of buying a specific consumable, which is also stupid. We've disagreed with each other on this topic in several other threads, so I'm not going to change your mind and you're not going to change mine.

That I agree on, platinum isn't for everyone and that's totally ok.

I have 49 unlocks to go.

I really shouldn't have checked that.

Single player also allows you to start with the most stupid OP weapons in the game.

Also, if I want to play a shotgun character but I'm out of the good amps, I just have to play something else instead of buying a specific consumable, which is also stupid.

But it encourages you to try other weapon classes. Which encourages replay value.

Getting stuff like Hurricane in the first pack breaks the game. After which players only stick with the most OP thing they have. So consider yourself lucky. And try everything else too. Eventually you'll keep getting other stuff to try out, and replay value continues with it.

Pro-Tip; you can re-center that new avatar to actually make sense with the forum pan feature.

And it still takes a long time to get enough money to level them up, and I get to choose what and when I level up. I like choice. Now it just comes down to when to unlock specific weapons. Common, then Uncommon, then Rare, and finally UR seems like a good progression to me.

But it encourages you to try other weapon classes. Which encourages replay value.

There's a difference between encouraging and forcing. I've played with every weapon in the game, but by this time I know what I like and don't like. I also know what I'm in the mood for at that moment. The game shouldn't dictate what I'm allowed to play. I've said from the beginning, if we can't buy the weapons we want, then let us unlock the next weapon by doing challenges with the previous ones. That way I have to use the Katana to get the Eviscerator in order to get the Graal in order to get the Disiple and so on until I get to the Wraith and Venom. I agree that's "forcing" a player to use a weapon, where as now they can just let it sit on the shelf and hope for a better item to drop, but this goes back to the illusion of choice for the player. Many would suffer through playing with a certain weapon for a few games if they KNEW they would get a specific weapon afterwards.

Getting stuff like Hurricane in the first pack breaks the game. After which players only stick with the most OP thing they have. So consider yourself lucky. And try everything else too. Eventually you'll keep getting other stuff to try out, and replay value continues with it.

I got the Hurricane in one of my first commendation packs. My game wasn't broken. Why are people getting so hung up on people playing with good items in a coop game? Do you get mad when people put on consumables too? Yeah, I use mostly rare and UR weapons now, mainly because I don't care for a lot of the common and uncommon ones. I also don't use a lot of rare weapons because I don't like them, and I even don't use several UR weapons because I don't like them. The only thing they have in common is my personal preference to not liking them. Other people probably do like them. It's all down to the person.

I'm OK to grind on to unlock characters and weapons, but I want to choose the consumables I buy. My last two packs gave me 3 cryo rounds 4 as gold cards, while I have already 255 of them. This is both senseless and irritating.

I'm already getting Cryo IVs on the new account. I'm like, "but I still have 100+ URs to go, WHY?!"

What if you could barter with other players?

Player 1:  "Hey man, I'll give you 15xCryo IIIs, if you give me 3xIncendiary IIs?"

Player 2: "Make it 25xCryo IVs and we can do business!"

Player 1: "You drive a hard bargain, but deal..."

Probably this wasn't his point.

I give you an example of how I understood it:

At the start I loved the Viper.  It was a great time when I used this baby.   I lavished care on it and watched it get better until X  and I was happy everytime I got an upgrade.

If I had received the Black Widow in one of my first packs, this great Viper-time would never have existed.

EDIT:

Plus:  The chainless joy when I finally got the BW would never have existed, too

Took me about 700 hours. Now I'm getting close to 1900.

If MEA is gonna be a lot of fun, like ME3, I really don't care if it takes another 700 hours, since I'm gonna be puttin' a lot of hours in it for sure.

I agree. There was a time, when people still appreciated the Mattock, the Mantis and the Tempest. When the Harrier and Reegar hadn't existed, and we had to wait weeks/months for a Weekend Operation to finally drop you a Hurricane or a Valiant.

No idea. 1300 hours sounds like a lot, but i've played around that many hours and I'm not bored yet. So I guess it is not an unreasonable balance.

The time that was important to me was the one at which every character and weapon was unlocked first, always very exciting to get to play new stuff. I don't remember when that point was for me hours-wise, but it was shortly after the last DLC, which seemed just fine.

I completely understand the point he was making. I agree you should play with uncommon weapons before UR ones. I even said you should unlock the rarer items by using their common and uncommon counterparts. The crap part of your example is you have no idea when you'll get your next upgrade for your precious viper, or when you'll unlock your black widow. It is completely possible one person plays 1 game with the Viper and gets lucky enough to get the black widow. Another person may level the viper to X, complete the challenge for it 30 times and still not have a black widow. If I see a person with a gun, I'd like to know they went through what I went through to get it, instead of getting it from luck.

Yep, trading would be cool too.

As terrible as DAI:MP is, at least when you get a crappy item you can salvage and eventually make something better so you're not stuck with it.
