A more personal and low key story would suit well to set a new and unique tone within the new scenario. That is not to say that the stakes can't be high and the enemies we fight can't be dangerous. The main difference should rather be that we are more out of the public eye and that the consequences of our actions are vast for us (and those we know) but maybe not so much for everyone else. I think the new scenario with a vast unexplored and possibly undeveloped area of space, where civilization is not as well established as it was in the Milky Wau lends itself well for such a story and I hope BW will capitalize on that potential.
That is the main issue with bioware in these games in my opinion.
Or maybe with the players, too, if they are right?
You GOT to be the Superhero-Villian-Whatever.
The savior or destroyer of the universe.
I find this so tiresome (because they use this in any francise).
Is that really what the players want? Look at SWTOR, it is the best example how to complete mess things up.
Every char is an idol... the universe is full of it... what a stupid, dull, childish setting it is noiw storywise, at least to me.
I don't now if the players really want to be the uber-character, but i know for sure and from own experience,
that it is not necessary to tell a half-way compelling story.
I understand that it has to be a kind of leader, because you need that to keep your companions follow your orders and no one wants to spent 100+ hours with getting ordered by a npc (albeit we could argue if "collect 10x squarrelpoo here and kill 10x blue spacecavy is soo much better).
But the captain of a small scout-unit, or the half-rogue mercenary-leader in the service of some general or whatever.
Keep that crap low and focus on the enviroment, the new world and the characters.
THEN you can even let the players made different decisions and take them over to a sequel.
There is no need that you let those decisions affect the whole freaking way of the galaxie.
That would be so fresh and would give Bioware so much freedom that... i am afraid it won't happen.
Maybe it doesn't fits in EAs glorious plans for the gamingworlddomination.
But i would be glad to be surprised in 18 months, i would really be.
