I came into DAO after having played DAI first. Therefore, I immediately began arming Leliana with the best bows and crossbows in DAO. She also has other skills, however. the various rogue skills. Any special weapons to make use of those skills? Daggers? Etc.? Or are rogue skills all hand-to-hand combat type skills?

I usually use Faldin's reach or Spear thrower for bows on Leliana but I think she does more damage with Daggers.
Was that the question? I think you want to have High cunning with leliana so maybe half cunning half dexterity. I like to use ancient elven armor so I get I think 22 strength.
I use to go to the elves to get a rapid aim bow. I don't believe in the repeater gloves so I don't use them.

I've always used Leliana as an archer with regular bows (forget crossbows, they're just too slow to provide ranged support, furthermore, their damage is based on strenght, not dexterity, so they're more valuable as a ranged weapon for a soldier).
When leveling her, put points to Dexterity, Willpower and Cunning in a 2:1:2 ratio, and level strenght only to have her wear better light armors.
The bard specialization goes well with her role as a support character, as it's always nice to have some buffs in combat. Otherwise, just focus on her Archery skill tree.
From the rogue skill tree, go for the passives mainly.
Have her use daggers as secondary weapons when something gets too close to her, and it does not hurt to have dirty fighting, stealth or other similar talent that helps her escape from close quarters combat.

If I'm playing as a Tank, I tend to build my rogues to have both ranged and melee talents.
The only archery line I spend talent points on is the one to get Arrow of Slaying at the end - It's invaluable to stealthily take out strong enemies.
Basic ranged shot is also good to draw certain enemies one by one if you're going into a particularly hard battle.
I switch to dual wield daggers if a melee enemy is approaching.
Longbow uses Dexterity and Strength (Talents use Dex)
Daggers use Dexterity.
You can also equip a longsword and dagger (and eventually two longswords) but unless you have a good amount of point assigned to strength, you won't be able to equip a decent sword, plus attacks are slower.
